Chapter 480: Effect of the Horn Lizard King’s Death.
Dead.
The moment the still, lifeless body of the Horn Lizard King hit the ground, the entire Horn Lizard Town trembled.
At first, the trembling was subtle, almost unnoticeable. But as the seconds passed, the vibration rapidly intensified, becoming more violent with every passing moment.
Dum! Dum! Dum!
Powerful vibrations spread throughout every corner of the town. The ground quaked violently beneath everyone’s feet.
Dust rose into the sky in thick clouds.
Weak and unstable buildings collapsed under the terrifying vibrations, sending debris crashing onto the streets.
"What is going on?"
"What happened?"
"Are we under attack?"
The battle between the Horn Lizard King and the Grim Reaper had already pushed everyone to the edge of their sanity.
Now, with the sudden vibrations spreading throughout the entire town, the fear and trepidation within everyone’s hearts rose to another level.
"We are all going to die!"
"We are doomed!"
"What are you doing?! Let’s escape this cursed town immediately!"
Many awakeners struggled to rush out from behind their closed doors, hoping to flee the town before whatever was happening consumed them as well.
Unfortunately, the vibrations only grew stronger and stronger with each passign second. People were tossed into the air as though they weighed nothing.
Many unfortunate ones crashed into walls. Others slammed into one another before falling heavily onto the ground, screaming in pain.
As for the ordinary Horn Lizard Men, their expressions instantly turned deathly pale.
Blood trickled from their eyes, noses, ears, and mouths. More importantly, they felt as though an invisible force was crushing their hearts from within.
Ahhh! Ahhh! Ahhh!
When the pain became unbearable, every Horn Lizard Man, whether old or young, fell to their knees and screamed.
It was a primal cry that originated from the deepest part of their souls.
An undiluted, soul rending agony.
Many clutched their chests desperately while others rolled across the ground in unbearable pain.
Some even clawed at their own scales as if trying to rip away the invisible force crushing them.
However, very few people paid attention to their miserable cries.
Everyone else was busy struggling to keep themselves from being thrown into the air by the violent tremors.
Many hugged thick pillars as though their lives depended on them. Some tightly gripped door frames, veins bulging across their foreheads.
Others held onto their window frames with all their strength, screaming and praying to whoever might hear them.
But strangely enough, the other Beastmen races inside the town were completely unaffected by the mysterious phenomenon.
Apart from feeling the initial vibration, nothing else happened to them.
Standing by the window, the Mantis Men Elder quietly observed the chaos for a long moment before muttering,
"Their king is dead."
Indeed, from high above the Horn Lizard Town, one could clearly see that the King’s residence, which stood at the very heart of the town, was pulsating with an invisible force.
It was the source of everything.
The center of the disturbance.
Nearly half of the buildings within the residence had already collapsed. Jagged fissures spread throughout the compound like enormous spider webs.
Walls crumbled continuously.
Stone pillars split apart.
It was as though an invisible giant was tearing the King’s residence apart with overwhelming force.
After several more seconds, the violent vibrations gradually weakened. The earth slowly stopped trembling and the collapsing buildings finally became still.
Little by little, the town returned to silence once more.
As for Thoren, the cause of everything, the mysterious force seemed to avoid him like a plague.
He merely watched the destruction unfolding around him and tot once was he affected by the strange phenomenon.
"Is this because their king is dead?" he whispered, falling into deep thought.
Even though he believed everything was connected to the Horn Lizard King’s death, he did not dwell on it for too long.
There were more important matters before him and without hesitation, he walked toward the Horn Lizard King’s corpse.
He stopped beside it and silently stared at it for a brief moment before speaking.
[Ghost Whispers]
Instantly, a powerful surge of undead energy flowed into the Horn Lizard King’s dead body and the corpse trembled slightly.
Then, a translucent figure slowly emerged from it.
The Horn Lizard King’s soul.
His illusory figure floated silently above the corpse and his hollow eyes stared blankly at Thoren.
His expression was completely devoid of emotion.
"Why did you betray us?" Thoren asked.
This was the question that had been burning inside his heart ever since he learned about the betrayal.
"I did not trust the lesser humans to defeat the Scorpion Clan that even I could not defeat."
"When the Scorpion King personally visited me and promised me a generous reward..."
"I accepted his offer."
Listening to the answer, Thoren’s expression did not change in the slightest. Instead, he calmly asked another question.
"What reward did the Scorpion King promise you?"
"A tome belonging to my clan."
"It contains the method that allows the Horn Lizard Clan to continue evolving."
Hmm?
Thoren creased his brow, genuinely surprised.
He had never expected there to be another method that could allow the Beastmen races to evolve further.
For a brief moment, countless thoughts flashed through his mind.
However, he quickly suppressed them.
There would be plenty of time to think about it later and right now, there were many questions he still wanted to ask the soul of the Horn Lizard King.
"What method?" he asked immediately.
"The tome records an ancient evolution path left behind by our ancestors."
"As long as we satisfy its requirements, our bloodline can evolve once more."
Hearing that, a faint glint flashed across Thoren’s eyes as he silently memorized the information before continuing.
"How did the Scorpion King visit you without anyone knowing?"
"There is a hidden passage connecting both clans."
"We rarely use it."
"It is only opened during emergencies or when the two kings need to meet in absolute secrecy."
"And where is this hidden passage?" Thoren asked.
The Horn Lizard King’s soul slowly opened its mouth.
"It is..."
