Chapter 1044 - 519: Horn and the Behemoth
Looking back at the distant sea, the Vengeance Blade Blade had already become a tiny black dot.
Aude, the captain of the "Black Tide Hunter" adventurer team, couldn’t help but exhale a breath, loosening his grip slightly on the whaling spear he had been holding tightly.
He did not deceive Xia Nan and the others.
Their group indeed had been attacked by pirates some time ago, and they indeed lost a lot of supplies because of it, urgently needing replenishment.
Aude even told the truth about the purpose of Black Tide Hunter’s journey here, truthfully stating they were tracking a Sea Beast Demon.
However, what Aude didn’t mention was.
Before the Vengeance Blade Blade noticed them approaching and then raised their fleet flag, he genuinely hadn’t realized the other party’s identity, simply assuming it was some ordinary adventurer team they had accidentally encountered on the sea.
The method of "trading" supplies they originally planned to use was far from as sincere and peaceful as it had just been.
The law of the jungle reigns supreme in these seas.
Especially for adventurers like them.
If things were indeed as Aude initially assumed, and the adventurer group appearing near the Black Tide Hunter was a typical group of ordinary strength... it would’ve been generous enough not to have just left the other party with a single chance for survival, let alone trading with them.
However, upon discovering it was the Vengeance Blade Blade after getting closer and raising the flag, Aude, finding himself riding a difficult situation, had no choice but to pay a cost far exceeding the value of the goods, not only including parts of the Demon they had captured mid-mission but also returning a favor.
"Captain, weren’t we a bit... too cautious just now?"
"If word gets around, we’ll probably be called cowards when we return to Suo Yu Bay."
A Half Beastman Warrior finally couldn’t hold back his frustration, grumbling with a tone full of complaint.
What greeted him was a heavy slap to the back of the head, making his burly body stagger.
"’Vengeance Blade’ Lorin, Don’t tell me you’ve never heard of that name!"
"Don’t you believe that if I had been just a bit more assertive, the Black Tide Hunter would’ve been burnt to ashes by now!"
Aude’s chest heaved as he cursed angrily.
The Half Beastman dared not retort to the captain, lowering his head, though there was still a hint of defiance in his beast-like round eyes.
As if thinking of something, he turned his head, looking towards the railing at the edge of the deck where a tall figure still stood, gazing into the distance at the retreating Vengeance Blade Blade, and asked instinctively:
"Sarisa, what do you think?"
"The Black Tide Hunter isn’t world-famous, but it has a lot of professional level members. I just don’t believe..."
"We’d die."
Before the Half Beastman could even finish, the ranger named "Sarisa" had already given her answer.
Turning around, her platinum ponytail swung back and forth in the increasingly fierce sea breeze, her amber vertical pupils glanced at the stiff-faced Half Beastman Warrior before meeting Captain Aude’s eyes.
She nodded slightly, expressing her agreement with his earlier act of retreating.
Clearly, this woman had influence on the ship, akin to their captain "Whale Anchor" Aude, and even if the Half Beastman was unwilling in his heart, having been refuted by the two core members in succession, he had no choice but to calm down.
Frowning in thought for a while, the foolish mixed brain bred by Beastman blood did not allow him to come up with an answer.
He had to ask the ranger in front of him with a confused tone:
"Why, is it just because of that so-called ’Vengeance Blade’ Lorin? I admit she’s strong, but don’t we have a captain, too?"
"And in terms of number of professionals, we should have the advantage, right? If there were a fight, as long as the captain could hold out a bit longer, I think we could use our numerical advantage..."
In response, Sarisa simply shook her head.
Looking toward Aude, seeing that he had no intention of explaining, merely frowning and looking helplessly at the Half Beastman, probably already considering how to teach this recently joined member a lesson later on.
She also noticed that several other members on the deck were watching this side, seemingly also questioning Aude’s actions, but unlike the Half Beastman, they dared not speak out.
So she sighed.
Tying the metal longbow in her hand to her back, she slightly raised her voice so that all the members paying attention could hear, volunteering an explanation:
"The key isn’t just Lorin, it’s the Black haired Adventurer on their ship."
Upon hearing this, the Half Beastman Warrior involuntarily recalled.
"The one carrying two longswords, looking particularly young?"
Sarisa nodded, "Haiya Xia Nan."
"You should have heard that name too, and I don’t need to explain the issues with the Corner Shark Gang and Ebbtide Gang."
Saying this, she paused, her amber vertical pupils slightly out of focus as if she were recalling something, then spoke again in a hard-to-describe tone.
"In some ways, his danger level is far higher than Lorin’s."
The ranger and its related sub-classes, have attributes leaning mainly towards "Perception."
Even if adventurers in this world cannot obtain extra attribute points like Xia Nan can through the Secret Realm, they still have their own strengths in their professional attributes.
