The feeling of blood running down Ka’z’s throat was unlike anything he had experienced before. Every swallow seemed to send another wave of vitality through his body, spreading from his chest into his limbs and then into every scale. His senses sharpened to an almost absurd degree. The distant clashes of weapons became clear enough for him to distinguish individual strikes, the smell of sweat and blood became overwhelming, and even the fear radiating from the goblins around him seemed almost tangible.

He could smell it on them.

Their breathing had changed. Their hearts were beating faster and their bodies were tense.

They were afraid of him.

Ka’z slowly inhaled, his crimson eyes widening as he took in everything around him. His body felt lighter than it ever had before, yet at the same time, there was an immense strength packed inside every muscle.

"Power..." Ka’z muttered as he slowly clenched his fist and watched crimson energy crawl between his scales. A strange smile spread across his face. "This is power."

A low chuckle escaped his throat.

It started quietly, almost harmlessly, but quickly grew into something deeper and more unsettling. The sound echoed through the narrow cave, bouncing from wall to wall until it seemed as though dozens of voices were laughing alongside him. Several nearby kobolds instinctively tightened their grips on their weapons while the goblins stared at him with expressions that ranged from disbelief to outright terror.

Swoosh!

An arrow suddenly tore through the air.

Ka’z’s head shifted in response.

The projectile was already inches from his face, yet his hand moved almost without conscious thought. His fingers snapped shut around the shaft just before the arrow could bury itself between his eyes.

Silence followed as Ka’z stared at the arrow resting between his fingers. The normal him would never have been able to do that.

He had relied on his Combat Aid Module and even learned how to anticipate attacks, but this was different. His body had simply reacted. His senses had perceived the arrow before his conscious mind had fully registered it.

A slow smile returned to his face.

"Maybe..." Ka’z muttered as he looked toward the direction the arrow had come from. His crimson eyes narrowed with growing excitement. "Just maybe, I can kill that goblin with this power."

The reaction was immediate as every goblin who heard him understood exactly who he meant.

Lucy’s face flushed crimson, but this time it wasn’t from fear, it was anger.

The thought of this young kobold standing there and casually discussing killing their chieftain pushed her protective instincts above whatever fear Blood Magic had created. Her fingers immediately reached for three arrows.

She drew them in one motion.

"Don’t you dare!" Lucy snarled.

Swoosh!

Three arrows flew simultaneously.

Ka’z barely moved. He raised the arrow he was holding and swung it across his body.

Peng!

The arrow in the center was knocked aside, spinning harmlessly into the darkness while the other two struck him.

Pfft!

Both arrows pierced his chest and Ka’z’s upper body rocked backward from the impact, but his feet remained firmly planted.

The surrounding goblins stared as Ka’z slowly lowered his gaze toward the arrows protruding from his chest. There was no pain in his expression. If anything, he looked mildly curious.

He dropped the arrow in his hand, then he reached toward his chest and calmly pulled the arrows out.

Pfft!

Blood immediately sprayed from the wound and Lucy watched with widening eyes as the blood refused to fall.

Instead, it gathered around the wounds.

The crimson liquid crawled across Ka’z’s scales, filling the damaged flesh as though it were alive. Within seconds, the bleeding stopped. The blood covering the wounds darkened until it became almost black, hardened and peeled away from his body.

Beneath it was completely healed flesh with no scar or open wound.

"Blood Magic: Rejuvenation." Brox muttered, his expression darkening.

He knew the technique.

Rudor had developed it after reaching the height of his power, and even then it had required tremendous control over Blood Magic. It wasn’t simply healing. The caster had to manipulate blood around the injury and force the body to restore itself. But this boy had done it instinctively.

Brox’s eyes narrowed.

’How strong is his affinity to Blood Magic?’

The thought disturbed him more than the healing itself.

"What the hell are you all waiting for?" Brox suddenly barked, his eyes remaining fixed on Ka’z. "Kill him!"

The hobogoblins snapped out of their hesitation and several immediately charged.

They expected Ka’z to retreat, instead he charged toward them with a mad grin stretched across his face as his small body accelerated.

The sight unsettled them more than anything else.

Ka’z’s hands trembled as he moved, but it wasn’t from fear. Blood began seeping through the gaps between his fingers and claws, coating both palms in a thick crimson layer. He spread his fingers and swung both hands forward.

Several crescent shaped streams of blood erupted from his claws.

The hobogoblins on either side immediately pressed themselves against the walls. They had no intention of discovering what those attacks could do to their bodies.

The two directly in front of Ka’z weren’t so fortunate. The blood claws tore through them.

Pfft!

"AAAAAGH!"

The attacks ripped through flesh, opening several deep wounds across their chests. Both goblins staggered backward, their battle axes slipping from their hands as blood soaked through their clothing.

Ka’z was already there.

BAM!

He grabbed both goblins by their faces and their eyes widened as Ka’z slammed them into the ground with overwhelming force.

The stone cracked beneath their heads as blood and fragments of bone scattered across the floor. Their bodies twitched once before becoming still.

The two hobogoblins who had pressed themselves against the walls immediately recovered and turned around.

They never reached Ka’z as earth erupted from the cave walls behind them.

Pfft!

Stone spikes punched through their backs and emerged from their chests.

Both goblins froze before collapsing forward, their bodies sliding down the spikes and leaving streaks of blood across the stone.

Four of his comrades had fallen within seconds and Brox’s expression twisted into an ugly frown. His grip tightened around his iron club until the metal creaked beneath his fingers.

He couldn’t allow this child to continue.

Brox lowered his body and charged. Two arrows flew past him from behind.

Swoosh!

Ka’z noticed them immediately. He glanced toward the two corpses lying near his feet and grabbed them. The dead goblins were lifted from the ground as though they weighed nothing.

He swung both bodies upward.

Thud!

The arrows struck the corpses instead and Ka’z released them. The bodies dropped heavily to the ground as he slowly turned toward Brox.

The massive goblin was already charging but Ka’z smiled. There was something deeply wrong with the expression. It wasn’t the confident smile of someone who believed they could win.

It was the grin of someone who had stopped believing he could lose.

Ka’z began walking toward Brox. His crimson eyes never left the approaching goblin.
