Chapter 834: What Did You Put in My Food Delivery
When this delivery person heard such a request, he couldn't be happier! After all, it saved him time on the delivery—why wouldn't he be glad?
So the delivery person rode his bike over to the delivery rack near the security room, placed one order onto an empty spot on one of the racks, snapped a photo, and sent it to the person who placed the order.
Then, he hopped back on his electric bike and sped off.
Zeng Yan watched the delivery person leave. Soon after, he noticed a little boy walking out of Building No. 2.
The boy looked about 10 years old.
Holding a phone in his hand, he skipped over toward the delivery rack.
Zeng Yan figured the kid was here to pick up an order.
He sighed inwardly: "Kids these days are all sharp as tacks, they can do anything—even order food delivery. But a kid this young really shouldn't be eating too much takeout!"
Zeng Yan went back into the security room, where he continued slacking off on his phone.
About two or three minutes later, the 10-year-old boy reached the delivery rack. Once there, he gave the rack a quick scan.
Soon, his eyes locked onto the order the delivery person had just dropped off.
It was a serving of fried rice.
The white receipt showed it was beef fried rice.
The bag containing the beef fried rice was a simple plastic one.
It wasn't stapled shut—just tied at the top.
The 10-year-old boy opened the order.
Inside, besides the beef fried rice, there was a plastic container holding some soup.
He opened the soup.
It was seaweed egg drop soup.
Then, the 10-year-old boy reached into his right pants pocket and pulled out a clear glass test tube. Inside the tube was a cloudy liquid, about half full.
He popped open the rubber lid on the test tube. Then, he poured all of that cloudy liquid into the seaweed egg drop soup. After that, the boy even stirred it with his index finger.
Once it was well mixed, he put the lid back on. He retied the plastic bag.
He returned the order to its spot.
After putting it back, the boy spotted a bigger order on the rack.
He grabbed it and hurried back into Building No. 2.
About five minutes later.
A man walked out of Building No. 1, muttering curses under his breath.
"So damn annoying. Which brain-dead morid made this rule? Food doesn't get delivered to your door, you have to come down and get it off a rack?"
The man was Zhang Le, the one who made instruments from human bones.
Clearly, Zhang Le was none too happy about the apartment's new rule.
Eating takeout was supposed to be convenient, but now he had to come downstairs and pick it up himself.
Cursing under his breath, he reached the delivery rack. He scanned it for a moment and spotted the beef fried rice he had ordered. He grabbed it with his right hand, then headed back to Building No. 1.
The live stream room.
The chat section.
Middle-aged Uncle: ["Good to watch domestic streams, you know. None of that time difference nonsense like with the special stream."]
["Like, when these people are at mealtime, so am I. And we're all eating takeout."]
Fairy Sister: ["This Jin Hai looks just like his photo, doesn't he? Really does look like a 10-year-old kid."]
Little Aunt: ["If you look closely, though, there's a slight difference between him and a real 10-year-old."]
I am the Hero: ["What was that liquid that Jin Hai added to Zhang Le's order?"]
Ultimate Rich Kid: ["No clue. Could it be poison?"]
I am the Hero: ["Poison... What grudge does he have against Zhang Le? Trying to kill him?"]
Little Dragon Girl: ["It's probably not targeting Zhang Le specifically. It's just that, right now, Zhang Le's order was the only one tied shut with a plastic bag. The rest were stapled closed. So, obviously, he picked the easiest one to tamper with."]
I am the Hero: ["Toxic. Really toxic. It's bad enough when the delivery person doesn't put something in your food, but then you run into a neighbor in the same apartment building who adds stuff to it. And who knows what he put in there..."]
Evil Wolf: ["It's definitely not poison. After all, he's just a lab rat, still thinking like an ordinary person. If someone actually died, he'd know there's no escaping the law. So, I bet whatever he put in there wasn't something deadly. Probably laxatives."]
Ultimate Rich Kid: ["Laxatives? This little runt is that vicious? Did the other guy do something to him, or what? Why would he slip someone laxatives?"]
Domineering Female CEO: ["A 38-year-old man trapped in a body that'll never grow past 10. He watches other people go to school normally, date normally, get married and have kids normally. Live a normal life, build a normal family. And then he looks at himself—he's got nothing. Do you really think someone like that can be mentally healthy?"]
Middle-aged Uncle: ["Yeah. Plus, I bet he faced plenty of gossip and dirty looks from people who knew his situation during his school years and everyday life. If a guy like that could still have a healthy mind... well, that'd be seriously impressive."]
Building No. 1.
Zhang Le got back to his place.
He set the takeout on the living room table.
Opening the bag, the first thing he saw was the small clear plastic container sitting on top of the fried rice box. He opened that container and sniffed it. The seaweed egg drop soup had a faint fragrance. He took a small sip, swallowed it, and smacked his lips.
He set the soup aside and pulled out the beef fried rice.
He lifted the lid.
Golden grains of rice were packed with plenty of tiny beef pieces, along with shredded cabbage and bean sprouts.
He tore open the disposable utensils.
He pulled out a plastic spoon and started eating. Every few bites of fried rice, he took a small sip of the seaweed egg drop soup.
He didn't eat fast. In fact, he ate quite slowly.
As he ate, he scrolled through his phone.
TikTok had a grip on a lot of people's days, and even Zhang Le—the guy who liked making instruments out of human bones—wasn't immune.
He scrolled through TikTok. The app was full of all kinds of men and women, young and old.
There were pretty girls and handsome guys. Every time he saw one, he'd pause and carefully examine their bone structure and the like. Then, he'd say what kind of instrument their bones would be good for making.
For instance, he just came across a female influencer with over 200,000 followers, dancing in a suggestive way.
He said: "This woman's really slutty. She'd make a good pipa."
As he ate, the people in the live stream watched him eat, waiting to see what would happen once he finished his meal.
After eating, he went into the bedroom, turned on his computer, and started browsing stuff.
There was no denying it—Zhang Le was obsessed with music. Everything he looked at was music-related. Right now, for example, he was watching a world-class guitarist's solo performance video.
