Chapter 503: The Makings of a Legend
Li Wei took some time to understand the Shadow Attendant’s new body and abilities.
The Shadow Attendant retained some of its abilities and gained some from Nitro and the Star Worm Queen: Nitro’s powerful physique and strength, and the Star Worm Queen’s "Adaptive Evolution" and "Parasitic Control."
These were not the most important things.
Most importantly, Li Wei discovered that the Shadow Attendant now had the potential to become a Legendary Level creature.
Both Nitro’s body and the core from the Legendary Level Star Worm Queen contained immense potential.
It gave the Shadow Attendant, originally a Nightmare, limitless potential.
Nitro itself possessed a certain degree of "Adaptive Evolution," just not as ridiculously powerful as the Star Worm Queen’s.
Perhaps this was why the two were able to fuse so perfectly.
Li Wei looked at the Shadow Attendant and thought, ’Since the Shadow Attendant has Adaptive Evolution, could it advance to the Legend tier by absorbing the tissues of more Legendary Creatures?’
He voiced his speculation, and the Shadow Attendant replied, "According to the Star Worm Queen’s memories, that is a viable path for advancement."
"Before the Star Worm Queen broke through to the Legendary Level, it went around collecting the remains of Legendary Creatures to devour and evolve."
Li Wei nodded. That made things clear.
He glanced at the Shadow Attendant, feeling a surge of emotion.
He never would have thought the Shadow Attendant would reach the Legendary Level before him.
Of course, it hadn’t broken through yet, but it was already on the Path of Legend. The breakthrough was only a matter of time.
He hadn’t even reached Tier Six yet, let alone the ethereal Path of Legend.
Li Wei couldn’t help but think of Gu Sewei. ’I wonder if she’s learned from the Ice Queen how to walk her own Path of Legend yet?’
WHOOSH! RUSTLE RUSTLE!
The furry trees underfoot made a noise, snapping Li Wei back to his senses.
He glanced around, only then remembering what he needed to do.
"Let’s go. We need to find Saint Xi first."
Li Wei flew in the direction of the spiritual sensation, with the Shadow Attendant following behind him like a dark ghost.
「Ice and Snow City.」
By the time the Ice Queen received Li Wei’s message, he had already been inside the Ice Emperor for some time.
When she tried to contact him again, she couldn’t get through.
The Ice Queen was also a little curious. ’Where did Li Wei go? Why can’t I reach him?’
More than where Li Wei had gone, the Ice Queen was concerned with the Ice Emperor’s location.
According to the information Li Wei had provided, the Ice Emperor would reach the outskirts of Ice and Snow City in one day at most.
She couldn’t help but feel anxious.
Fortunately, the troublesome Beastmen had been dealt with. Ice and Snow City could now focus all its efforts on arranging the Divine Worship Ceremony without needing to divert troops to track down the Beastmen or worry about saboteurs.
Besides the Divine Worship Ceremony, there was another matter the Ice Queen was very concerned about: Gu Sewei’s Path of Legend.
After Gu Sewei returned to the Ice Jade Palace, she told the Ice Queen that she had reached Tier Six Peak in her cultivation and asked for guidance on the path to becoming a Legend.
The Ice Queen herself had not followed the Path of Legend to advance.
So she wasn’t very clear on the details.
However, she did know of a special method of advancement.
This method was related to the Divine Worship Ceremony, which was the task the Ice Queen had given to Gu Sewei.
Gu Sewei remained alone in the Ice Jade Palace, making preparations for the Divine Worship Ceremony.
She still didn’t quite understand why the Ice Queen had given this opportunity to her.
Logically, the Ice Queen herself should have been the most suitable candidate.
Regardless, Gu Sewei was extremely obedient to the Ice Queen’s orders and had no thoughts of defying them.
Even with doubts in her heart, she focused on carrying out her orders diligently.
Suddenly, several powerful auras burst into the tranquil Ice Jade Palace.
Gu Sewei sensed them immediately.
Her expression changed, and she grew a little tense.
The visitors had nothing to do with her, but they were connected to someone she cared about very much.
She subconsciously turned her head in the direction of the Ice Queen, her hands clenching over her chest as if in prayer.
Gu Sewei didn’t know what the Ice Queen was thinking.
The Ice Queen granted an audience to several powerful Holy Knights who had come to visit again.
...
Li Wei traveled through the dim, ring-shaped world.
He looked up at the "sky" and his surroundings, feeling a profound sense of dissonance.
Even after looking at it for so long, he still couldn’t get used to it.
For the nth time, Li Wei marveled at the sheer size of the Ice Emperor. ’It’s too big to fit in one pot.’
The Ice Emperor’s body was like another world.
The mountain-cliffs of teeth, the plains of the tongue, the throat-tunnel, the ocean of stomach acid, the ring-world of intestines...
’I really wonder what kind of sight awaits me next.’
"Hm? What’s this place..."
Li Wei stopped and looked up.
Where a forest should have been, there was now a massive, bottomless pit—a sinkhole.
’A perforated intestine?’
The term popped into Li Wei’s mind subconsciously.
He looked ahead and confirmed that this was not the end of the intestinal ring-world.
A long stretch of it still lay ahead, extending as far as the eye could see.
That made the appearance of the sinkhole here very strange.
"Hm!"
Li Wei’s expression shifted slightly. He could sense Saint Xi’s spiritual aura coming from within the sinkhole.
’Could Saint Xi have been swept into the sinkhole by that storm?’
Since Saint Xi was inside, Li Wei had no choice but to go take a look.
As he neared the sinkhole, Li Wei noticed it reeked of a thick, foul stench.
Fetid, bloody water dripped intermittently from the sinkhole’s edge.
Li Wei realized in an instant that this was a wound inside the Ice Emperor’s body.
"Could it be that the Ice Emperor’s plea for help wasn’t about clearing out the Star Worms? Was it about this?"
Li Wei recalled what Saint Xi had said earlier.
Saint Xi had said the Ice Emperor sent her a distress signal.
When Li Wei saw the Star Worms rampaging inside the Ice Emperor, he had assumed the creature wanted his help in clearing them out.
Now, it seemed that wasn’t the case at all.
The Star Worms might be a threat, but there was a far more serious danger here, one that threatened the Ice Emperor’s very life.
Li Wei flew into the sinkhole.
Before him appeared a dark swamp, full of rot and decay.
The flesh before him seemed to have been contaminated by something; it had completely lost its original life force, transforming into a pool of filthy, black pus.
Li Wei’s gaze hardened. He could feel that this substance was not of this world.
The power harming the Ice Emperor was from beyond this world.
He couldn’t help but worry about Saint Xi’s situation.
GURGLE... GURGLE... A strange sound came from ahead.
Li Wei’s eyes narrowed slightly as he made out the scene ahead. A giant membrane blocked the path forward.
Above the membrane was a large amount of black, purulent blood. Something seemed to be inside it, making strange noises as it swam through the ichor.
Li Wei approached cautiously. Suddenly, the membrane bulged outward, forming the shape of a human face.
It looked like someone suffocating with a plastic bag over their nose and mouth, a sight that created an empathetic sense of asphyxiation.
The Shadow Attendant reacted instantly, about to strike the monster that had suddenly appeared.
But Li Wei stopped it. "Wait."
