Chapter 549 - 540: Lion King, Part 2
The Lion King looked at Li Wei and smiled faintly. "Human, you really are audacious."
"Aren’t you afraid of me?"
The Lion King was quite surprised by Li Wei’s attitude.
Never mind his enemies; even his most trusted ministers would become exceptionally reserved and tense in his presence, unconsciously showing their subservience.
Yet the human before him was treating him... as an equal.
It was simply unimaginable.
Li Wei said, "Since you didn’t attack us from the start, I presume Your Majesty the Beast King means us no harm."
"Besides, with the strength of the two of us, we are absolutely no match for Your Majesty."
The Lion King laughed. "Hahaha, interesting."
"You’re very clever."
"Unfortunately... you guessed wrong."
Li Wei’s expression shifted slightly. He didn’t know what the king meant.
Suddenly, the space around them shattered.
He looked around nervously, wondering what the Lion King was planning.
KACHA! BOOM!
A large swath of space crumbled, and the form of the Holy Giant Dragon vanished into a rift in space.
When Li Wei came to his senses, Saint Xi had already returned to her human form.
And they were no longer where they had been.
Saint Xi looked at Li Wei in confusion and asked, "What happened?"
Li Wei quickly scanned his surroundings. The scenery felt somewhat familiar.
Then it hit him, and a look of surprise crossed his face.
The scenery here was identical to the Inheritance Ancestral Land.
’Are we back again?’
’But how did this happen?’
Li Wei recalled the sight of space shattering earlier.
’Did the Beast King bring us back?’
’What exactly does the Beast King want?’
A moment later, the Beast King appeared before them.
He glanced at Li Wei and Saint Xi, then turned and walked toward a dim, lightless bamboo forest.
"Follow me."
Li Wei had no choice. He exchanged a glance with Saint Xi and followed the Beast King.
’He had absolutely no idea what the Beast King was up to.’
’They were clearly enemies, so why wasn’t the Beast King showing the slightest bit of hostility?’
Li Wei couldn’t figure it out.
Deep inside the bamboo forest, there was a stone gate.
The Beast King reached out and pressed his hand on the stone gate. A moment later, it opened automatically.
He stepped inside first.
As the stone gate opened, Saint Xi’s heart jolted.
She tugged on Li Wei’s sleeve and whispered, "It’s in there."
"What’s in there?"
The moment he finished speaking, he remembered.
He looked at Saint Xi in surprise. "Are you saying..."
Saint Xi nodded. "That’s right."
Li Wei grew even more confused. He had no idea what the Beast King’s true intentions were.
He and Saint Xi followed the Beast King through the stone gate.
The stone gate closed automatically behind them.
Passing through a long corridor, Li Wei and Saint Xi arrived in an incredibly crude stone chamber.
The Beast King had already been waiting there for a while.
He was holding a wooden box, a thoughtful look on his face.
Without turning his head, the Beast King said, "You came for this?"
Hearing this, Li Wei and Saint Xi subconsciously looked at the wooden box in his hand.
A look of longing appeared in Saint Xi’s eyes.
She could sense that what she was searching for was inside.
Li Wei came to his senses, looked at the Beast King in bewilderment, and asked, "What do you mean? Why are you helping us?"
The Beast King didn’t explain. He handed the wooden box to Li Wei.
"Open it, and you’ll know."
Li Wei’s gaze shifted to the wooden box before him, and he stared at it for a long moment.
He then reached out and took the wooden box.
Pausing for a moment, he didn’t open it, but instead handed it to Saint Xi.
He had already scanned it. The wooden box was just an ordinary box with no hidden traps.
Under the watchful eyes of Li Wei and the Beast King, Saint Xi opened the wooden box.
Seeing what was inside, both Li Wei and Saint Xi were stunned.
Inside was an unremarkable, palm-sized stone.
"What is this?" Li Wei asked instinctively.
The Beast King said, "The thing you’ve been looking for."
Li Wei frowned and asked, "You know what we’re looking for?"
The Beast King chuckled. "Don’t all Holy Giant Dragons desire this?"
Li Wei felt there was a hidden meaning in the Beast King’s words.
’But he was being so cryptic, always unwilling to explain the situation clearly.’
’Or perhaps the Beast King felt he didn’t need to explain himself to Li Wei.’
’A superior being has no need to explain things to an inferior.’
Saint Xi picked up the stone, felt a stirring in her bloodline, and new inheritance memories flooded her mind.
A moment later, Saint Xi looked up at Li Wei and said, "It’s not over. This is the first token of the Holy Dragon Inheritance."
"I can already sense the location of the second token."
The Beast King looked at Saint Xi and said, "If I’m not mistaken, the second token is in the hands of those Wooden Men. They’re not as easy to deal with as I am."
"I have not yet given up on that possibility. Those Wooden Men accepted their fate long ago. They won’t necessarily hand the token over to you, especially since it’s very important to them—unlike this stone, which is of no use to the Beastman Race."
Li Wei frowned and asked, "Can you please explain what you mean? Stop talking in riddles, will you?"
The Beast King said, "Knowing now won’t do you any good."
"You are constantly under Their watch. If They find you’ve lost control and crossed a boundary, They won’t hesitate to move against you."
"So, make the most of your time."
"’They?’" Li Wei looked confused.
"Who are you talking about?" Li Wei pressed.
The Beast King didn’t answer. Instead, he dismissed them. "It’s time for you to go."
Before Li Wei could react, the Beast King made a pushing motion through the air. The space behind Li Wei and Saint Xi shattered, and unable to stop themselves, they stumbled backward and fell into the rift.
THUD!
The wooden box fell to the ground.
The Beast King glanced at the space that had returned to normal.
He bent down to pick up the wooden box from the ground, dusted it off, and placed it back in its original spot.
He glanced at the wooden box and walked outside.
"Hopefully, this is the last time."
「Under a clear blue sky dotted with white clouds.」
A spatial rift appeared in the sky above a dense forest.
Two figures fell out of the spatial rift.
CRACKLE! SNAP!
The two of them fell into the forest, snapping more than a dozen branches before landing safely on the ground.
"Ah... thank goodness I didn’t lose it."
Saint Xi cried out in alarm, her hands empty.
She glanced down and saw the stone from the Beast King lying not far away.
She breathed a sigh of relief, terrified that the treasure had been lost.
With a single push, the Beast King had sent Saint Xi and Li Wei through a spatial rift, teleporting them to an unknown location.
Saint Xi hadn’t had time to put the stone away.
During the Space Teleportation, Li Wei couldn’t open his Spatial Ring to store the stone either.
RUSTLE RUSTLE RUSTLE!
Li Wei walked out of the bushes, uninjured, without even a single blade of grass on him.
The impact from the fall was completely absorbed by his Invisible Armor.
He picked up the stone from the ground and walked toward Saint Xi.
He reached out and pulled Saint Xi up from the ground.
Then, he handed the stone to her.
So far, Saint Xi had no idea what the stone’s purpose was, or even what it really was.
As far as they were concerned, it was just a rock.
According to Saint Xi’s inherited memories, this stone was supposed to be one of the tokens to unlock the Holy Dragon Inheritance.
Next, they had to find the next token.
Saint Xi put the stone away. She closed her eyes to sense her surroundings, and a look of delight spread across her face.
"The second token is nearby."
"Hmm?" Li Wei looked astonished.
He thought of the Beast King’s expression when he sent them away.
That knowing look.
’Li Wei guessed that the Beast King must have known where the second token was.’
’That’s why he deliberately sent them here with a spatial rift.’
Li Wei looked up, and sunlight filtered through the gaps in the leaves above, landing on his face.
It was warm.
When he was in the Beastman Empire, night had just begun to fall.
After being teleported to this place, it was now broad daylight.
’He didn’t know if the teleportation had taken a long time or if this place was just incredibly far from the Beastman Empire.’
’So far, in fact, that it could be noon here while night was just falling in the Beastman Empire.’
’Li Wei suspected it was the latter.’
’If time had passed, he felt he would have been able to sense it.’
’Li Wei hadn’t felt like much time had passed inside the spatial rift.’
’That meant the difference between day and night was most likely caused by an immense difference in distance.’
Li Wei scanned his surroundings. The most important thing now was to figure out where they were.
RUSTLE RUSTLE RUSTLE!
A sound came from the woods not far away.
Li Wei turned his head to look and saw several figures appear in the distance.
