Chapter 509: War of Gods and Demons

Gu Sewei sat alone on the steps of the Ice Jade Palace, clutching the Frost Staff.

The cold moonlight spilled from beneath the dark curtain of night, falling upon the lonely figure of Gu Sewei.

Li Wei stood not far away, watching her quietly.

After recovering slightly, she had fallen into this state.

The Frost Staff was the scepter the Ice Queen had often used.

Gu Sewei was trying to feel anything the Ice Queen had left behind in it.

Li Wei could understand how Gu Sewei felt.

The person she had always relied on, the one closest to her, had vanished. Her heart was surely empty, feeling as if the entire world had lost its meaning.

Li Wei had felt the same way when he first came to this world and realized he had lost everything from his past.

He couldn’t console Gu Sewei now; he could only let her process her grief alone.

Li Wei gazed into the distance, his thoughts drifting.

The Ice Queen and the Flower God were both "seeds of faith" planted in the mortal world by Divine Spirits.

’But what use were these impure seeds of faith to a Divine Spirit?’

To a Divine Spirit, especially the Light God, the minuscule amount of Power of Faith from the Ice Queen should have been completely insignificant.

’So why had He come for it?’

The Light God’s followers were spread across the Celestial Vault Continent, numbering in the hundreds of millions.

How many people were in the Ice and Snow City?

Even a thousand years of accumulated Power of Faith probably couldn’t match the amount produced by the vast number of the Light God’s followers in a single day, or even half a day.

More importantly, the Power of Faith from the Ice Queen was impure.

This made it even less valuable to the Light God.

’Was it simply a matter of might as well take what’s free?’

But if that were the case, no Divine Spirit would deliberately sow seeds of faith in the mortal world.

’There had to be some unknown reason behind it.’

Li Wei couldn’t figure it out for the time being.

Suddenly, a white line appeared on the horizon of the night sky.

Li Wei’s eyes narrowed, a trace of curiosity and solemnity in his gaze.

’Who’s fighting?’

’The scale of this is astonishing.’

Half an hour later, the sky began to change. The white light spread until it was above the Ice and Snow City.

A layer of clouds formed from Ice Crystals appeared, obscuring the sky. A cold current blew down, turning into countless snowflakes that drifted into the city.

A heavy, goose-feather snow began to fall upon the Ice and Snow City.

Li Wei walked over to Gu Sewei’s side. The snowflakes falling from the sky slid past his head and landed on the ground.

Gu Sewei stood up from the steps, staff in hand, and looked up toward the distance.

"What... what is happening?" Gu Sewei asked in confusion.

The scene before her was too strange.

For such heavy snow to suddenly start falling was highly unusual.

If it were going to snow, she should have sensed it in advance.

Li Wei stood beside her, gazing into the distance. "This is the aftershock of a battle. Someone is fighting the Ice Emperor."

Li Wei had witnessed the spectacle of the Ice Emperor’s power erupting before.

It was identical to the scene before them now.

"The Ice Emperor!"

Gu Sewei’s gaze hardened, and an ache bloomed in her heart.

If it hadn’t been for stopping the Ice Emperor from destroying the Ice and Snow City, they wouldn’t have held the Divine Worship Ceremony, and the Ice Queen wouldn’t have vanished.

But that was just her wishful thinking.

Li Wei had also told her of another possibility.

Even if they hadn’t held the Divine Worship Ceremony, the Ice Queen would have disappeared sooner or later.

That point had been destined from the moment of her birth.

Just as she had said... it was fate.

Gu Sewei glanced at Li Wei and said, "I’m going to see what’s happening."

Li Wei said, "I’ll go with you."

Gu Sewei hesitated. "You’d better not. Those people might be there."

Li Wei chuckled. "I’ll hide myself well. I won’t be exposed."

"Besides, I wouldn’t be at ease letting you go alone."

Seeing this, Gu Sewei could only nod. "Alright, be careful."

"You too. Whatever you do, don’t be reckless."

Li Wei was worried Gu Sewei might do something rash because of what happened to the Ice Queen.

Gu Sewei hummed in agreement, and a pair of ice-blue Ice Elf Wings unfurled from her back as she flew toward the distance.

Li Wei quickly kicked off the ground, leaping up to catch up with Gu Sewei.

The two flew at full speed, moving so fast that in the blink of an eye, they had left the Ice and Snow City and were heading toward the distant battlefield.

After leaving the Ice and Snow City, Li Wei’s figure vanished, leaving only Gu Sewei in the air.

But Gu Sewei knew Li Wei was right beside her.

Gu Sewei gazed into the distance, her thoughts in turmoil. She didn’t know how she was supposed to face the Eight-winged Bright Angel Russell, who had "killed" the Ice Queen.

Although she hadn’t witnessed it herself, according to Li Wei, it was an undeniable fact that Russell had indirectly killed the Ice Queen.

Even if the true culprit was the Divine Spirit behind him.

"Stay calm."

Li Wei’s reminder sounded in her ear.

She snapped back to her senses and reined in the cold aura emanating from her body.

Li Wei had spoken up only after seeing her power spiral out of control.

"Maybe you shouldn’t go. I can go check it out, and I’ll tell you everything that happened."

Li Wei’s figure reappeared as he spoke with some concern.

Gu Sewei shook her head, her long hair dancing behind her.

She said resolutely, "No, I have to go."

"It’s not just for the Ice and Snow City..."

The Ice Queen was gone. The only thing Gu Sewei could do was protect the city that the Ice Queen had been willing to give her life for.

She saw this as her duty.

Now, the battle raging in the distance was very likely to affect the Ice and Snow City, so she naturally couldn’t stand by and do nothing.

Seeing that his persuasion was useless, Li Wei gave up trying.

Gu Sewei still had the Angel’s Feather bestowed upon her by the Eight-winged Bright Angel.

As long as she didn’t initiate an attack, she probably wouldn’t be seen as an enemy by the Eight-winged Bright Angel Russell.

Li Wei, on the other hand, had to be careful not to be discovered.

One of the Eight-winged Bright Angel’s missions in the mortal realm was to investigate the killer of the Four-winged Angels.

Approaching the battlefield, they came upon a massive cloud of ice fog that stretched for hundreds of miles.

Li Wei and Gu Sewei could only see brilliant flashes of light occasionally erupting from within and the roiling changes in the fog stirred by the battle’s aftershocks.

They couldn’t see clearly what was happening inside.

As they flew into the cloud of ice fog, a large number of Ice Crystals immediately formed around Gu Sewei.

A blurry human silhouette appeared in the cloud.

Li Wei’s expression changed slightly. In these conditions, he couldn’t use the Invisibility Cloak to hide his form.

The temperature inside the cloud of ice fog was extremely low, making it very easy for Ice Crystals and frost to condense around objects.

Li Wei’s figure was instantly exposed.

Gu Sewei noticed as well. She stopped and glanced at Li Wei. "You should stop here. Don’t go any further."

She peered into the depths of the ice fog, her expression grave. "I can sense them. They’re all there."

Li Wei raised his hand, and a miniature bird flew from his palm, landing inside Gu Sewei’s collar.

"I won’t go on. You be careful, too."

Gu Sewei nodded, glanced at the miniature bird perched on her collar, and spread her wings, flying deeper into the cloud of ice fog.

She had seen Li Wei’s Illusion Technique before and knew the bird housed his Spiritual Power.

Through the bird, she could communicate with Li Wei, and he could also see what she saw through its eyes.

Li Wei remained outside the cloud of ice fog, sensing the miniature bird—an Illusory Body—rapidly moving away.

The expanse of the ice fog was immense, connecting the sky to the ground. From a distance, it looked like a cloud had fallen to earth. Only upon approaching it could one feel its sheer scale, inspiring a sense of awe.

Li Wei considered whether he could destroy this massive cloud of ice fog if he used his Meteor Fireball Technique.

Gu Sewei flew swiftly through the ice fog, everything before her a hazy blur.

The only thing she could use to navigate were the powerful combat fluctuations coming from ahead.

Feeling those combat fluctuations, Gu Sewei’s heart pounded with fear.

She had never felt such powerful energy fluctuations.

It made her feel like an ant trying to move against a raging storm.

Gu Sewei tightened her grip on the Frost Staff, hoping to draw from it the courage and strength to press on.

After passing through the misty ice fog, the scene before her suddenly opened up.

In the middle of the ice fog that covered hundreds of miles was a clear area. The fog in the central region had long been annihilated and dispersed by the battle’s aftershocks.

Gu Sewei finally saw the two warring parties.

On one side was the Eight-winged Bright Angel Russell, who radiated a sacred glow, with eight incredibly dazzling Wings of Light on his back.

On the other was the Demon God’s Apostle Basam, his body wreathed in black Demonic Qi, with a pair of huge, menacing black bat-like wings on his back.

Beneath Basam and Russell was an enormous creature—the Void Giant Whale, the Ice Emperor.

Further in the distance, four Holy Knights were also engaged in battle with their opponents on the ground.

Their opponents were Fallen Professionals who had sided with an Outer Demon God.

Relying on the Power they received from the Outer Demon God, these individuals could barely hold their own against the four Holy Knights.

Currently, the Holy Knights had the upper hand.

The Eight-winged Bright Angel Russell and the Demon God’s Apostle Basam were evenly matched in their fight.

Basam had the help of the Ice Emperor, while the Eight-winged Bright Angel was an orthodox Divine Envoy of this world, supported by the Power of a Divine Spirit.

The two sides could only be considered to be at a stalemate.

If this dragged on, the loser would inevitably be the Demon God’s Apostle Basam.

His Power of the Demon God was dwindling with use, whereas the Eight-winged Bright Angel Russell not only had no worries about exhausting his Power but could also summon the Power of a Divine Spirit at any time.

He was in an almost invincible position.

The battle hadn’t ended yet only because Russell didn’t want to disturb the Light God over such a trivial matter.

Gu Sewei stood at the edge of the ice fog, watching the battle not far away, clutching her Frost Staff, unsure of what to do.

The Demon God’s Apostle Basam and the Ice Emperor seemed to be losing.

For her, this was undoubtedly good news.

She no longer had to worry about the Ice Emperor destroying the Ice and Snow City.

The Ice Queen’s wish had been fulfilled.

Although it happened in a completely different way than she had first imagined.

The result was the same.

But Gu Sewei felt a faint sense of unwillingness.

She stared at the back of the Eight-winged Bright Angel Russell, her gaze grave.

It was as if she wanted to see through the Eight-winged Bright Angel before her and discern the thoughts of the Light God, far beyond the heavens.

"GRAAAAAWR..."

The Ice Emperor suddenly let out an earth-shattering roar.

The sky seemed to fracture, the earth trembled, and the clouds of fog roiled violently.

The Eight-winged Bright Angel’s figure faltered for a moment, pausing briefly.

The Demon God’s Apostle Basam seized the opportunity to descend, his lower body merging into the top of the Ice Emperor’s head.

His aura skyrocketed!
