Chapter 398 - 165: Toad Wrath’s Revival, Void Gate, I’ve Been Waiting For You
The little toad was emerald-green all over, like a flawless jewel. It remained unstained by the slightest filth, despite sitting in the stinking, toxic pool.
It even seemed to exude a faint, sacred air.
The little toad looked up, and upon seeing the Daoist nun standing above the pool, it jumped in fright.
"CROAK?"
’So Chen Shaoyou was after this little toad?’
Ye Xiaoyu instantly realized.
In her eyes, while the little toad’s appearance was unappealing, its bloodline was clearly top-tier.
It appeared to be the descendant of some Great Demon. Whether one took it as a Spirit Pet or skinned it, drew its blood, and refined its essence, it would be an immense stroke of good fortune.
If one were to use their Divine Spirit for Possession of this little toad, their lifespan alone would likely rival that of an ordinary Feathered expert!
"CROAK?"
The little toad leaped high out of the pool, then actually stood on the water’s surface. It clasped its webbed flippers behind its back and began to pace back and forth like a person, sizing up Ye Xiaoyu with a sidelong glance.
’What exactly is this little toad?’
Ye Xiaoyu watched the little toad, a strange expression on her face.
The little toad seemed to have no Demon Qi; its aura was exceptionally pure.
It lacked the slightest trace of a Demon Ghost, pure as a newborn babe.
Just then, the air howled as something descended.
The woman and the toad continued to stare at each other, paying it no mind.
WHOOSH!
Chen Shaoyou’s hands dug hard into the cliff face.
His immense momentum sent him carving a gash dozens of yards long down the cliff face.
He came to a stop just above the surface of the water.
"Phew!"
Chen Shaoyou let out a sigh of relief.
With his current Cultivation, he was still unable to walk on air.
The cliff was incredibly high, with a deep abyss below. If he hadn’t been lucky, even someone like him could have plunged to his death.
Now that he had landed safely, he felt a great sense of relief.
A wisp of True Qi gathered in his eyes.
In the pitch-black darkness, his eyes seemed to shoot out two beams of light.
He looked toward the dark pool.
The sight made him freeze.
There, on the surface of the vast, stagnant water that reeked of a powerful stench, a strikingly beautiful Daoist Nun and a fist-sized, emerald-green toad were locked in a staring contest.
SWISH!
The moment Chen Shaoyou looked at the pool, the woman and the toad simultaneously turned their gazes upon him.
Chen Shaoyou’s heart lurched, and he almost fell into the pool.
’Was I... intercepted?’
’Did someone actually beat me to it?’
He was dumbfounded.
’This wasn’t in the legends!’
BOOM!
As the two humans and the toad stared at one another, a tremendous roar suddenly erupted.
Ripples spread from all around, surging as the void itself seemed to twist into a massive vortex.
In an instant, it engulfed the entire pool.
’This is bad!’
Chen Shaoyou’s heart pounded in his chest.
But before he could make a move, he was swept into the vortex.
The little toad, seemingly terrified, shot a glance at Chen Shaoyou before darting toward Ye Xiaoyu without hesitation.
It moved with incredible speed, landing on Ye Xiaoyu’s shoulder and desperately clutching her Daoist Robe.
It let out panicked and urgent cries:
"CROAK! CROAK!"
’This toad...’
Ye Xiaoyu’s heart skipped a beat.
She was only a hair’s breadth away from the Nine Tribulations Realm, and her Magical Presence was powerful enough to resist common natural disasters. Yet this little toad had somehow penetrated it.
She was startled, but this was not the time to dwell on such things.
With a wave of her right hand, a brilliant beam of sword-light appeared, ready to strike.
But in the next moment, her expression changed, and the sword-light she was about to unleash wavered.
"CROAK!!"
Amidst a shrill croak, the two humans were swallowed by the surging ripples.
VWOOM!
The world turned upside down and space-time warped. After a moment of darkness, they found themselves in what seemed to be another world.
Chen Shaoyou was completely dazed. He had tumbled countless times through the void and nearly passed out.
He had barely regained his senses when a roar, hundreds or thousands of times louder than before, thundered through the heavens and the earth.
BOOM!
It was like millions of thunderbolts detonating at once.
In an instant, a burst of light illuminated everything in sight. The aftershock howled in all directions as ripples spread like a tide, swallowing everything.
BOOM!
Chen Shaoyou felt as if he’d nearly been killed on the spot. As he was reeling from the shock, he heard a series of sharp cracking sounds.
And amidst it all, a furious roar that could not be drowned out, even by a boom that sounded like an exploding star:
"Cui Yanliang!!"
Cui Yanliang?
’Isn’t that the Elder Celestial Master’s name!?’
Chen Shaoyou was jolted back to his senses. He channeled all the True Qi in his body to his eyes and stared into the distance, straight into the dazzling burst of Divine Light.
There, at the edge of his vision, an impossibly vast distance away...
...an immeasurably huge Fire Dragon suddenly shattered.
And shattering along with it was a giant chessboard that spanned all directions!
"S-Senior Brother?"
Amidst his shock, Chen Shaoyou heard an exclamation from beside him.
It was the beautiful Daoist Nun who had cried out.
’This Daoist Nun is the Elder Celestial Master’s junior sister?’
Chen Shaoyou was stunned right where he stood.
Suddenly, a shrill croak cut through the air.
Ye Xiaoyu moved, shaking the little toad from her shoulder. She sidestepped in a flash, her sword-light held horizontally before her.
"How infuriating! How infuriating!"
"This is absolutely infuriating!!"
Amidst the dissipating Divine Light, the little emerald toad seemed to have gone berserk, its body trembling frantically as it let out a furious roar.
