Hakai no Miko

Episode 57 Reading-2

Remember why we attacked this city.

The same words come to mind in the brains of those who were the Lord of Zoan who were there.

- If you stay stuck on the plain, Zoan will perish one day!

- We just have to get out into the wider world!

That was the word unleashed by the Ethereal Horse against the Zoans, who showed difficulty in the Bornis offense.

"We can't afford to lose this city of Bornis. We need to get out of town and intercept the Crusaders."

A painful silence descends.

After a while, Gallum, who engraved his words on his chest when he attacked Bornis again, makes his eyes look wary.

"... I see why. You can't just run away now."

Take over Garam's words, Zoog says.

"The question is, how do we fight?"

Gallum and Zoog smiled all the time, not from either side, when they looked at each other often.

Then he turns that grin off, and Garam, who has become a serious face, says to Zoog.

"How about taking advantage of our legs and assaulting them?

Besides, Zoog shakes his neck to the side.

"There are limits to our feet, too. In such a promising plain, you can see us storming from far away. By the time we finally meet, the enemy will have finished arranging the spear tips and will welcome us."

Now Zoog proposes measures for Gallum.

"How about ambushing somewhere and ambushing?

"To that extent, the other person would expect it too. There's no way we can wipe out 7,000 enemies in one surprise attack, even if it finally works. If you lose any chance of retreating, or take the trouble to retreat, that's it. Too dangerous."

Inspired by the twinning of the two, the others also opened their mouths one after the other.

"Why don't you try a night raid?

"He's the one who saw through the river ambush. In the meantime, we will consider measures to that extent."

"Why don't we take advantage of the speed of our feet and repeat the assault?

"This one will be exhausted before the other retreats."

"Why don't you make a trap?

"From now on, what is the trap that can damage that great army? We're not hunting pigs or deer."

Opinions fly from everywhere, making arguments quarrel (cancer), but such conclusions are not drawn. Fewer opinions are issued at all times, and the voices arguing with them become smaller. When opinions were finally delivered, everyone's gaze gathered to nature and the pale horse.

Rising conscious of that gaze, the Ethereal Horse slowly extended his right arm, pointing to a point of the map that had been spread over the table.

Shemr, who watched it beside the Ethereal Horse, raised his voice so small.

That was definitely where Ethereal Horse and I went earlier to see it.

"I'm trying to build a position here."

◆ ◇ ◆ ◇ ◆

"It's Marius. How would you intercept us?

To that question, Marius could not answer immediately.

Compared to less than two thousand rebels, we have more than seven thousand crusaders ourselves. In an attempt to intercept, from here to Bornis, it's all flat ground, with no gap for inferior rebels to attack.

"Anything is good. Say it."

Darius scolds me, and while I think I'm unscrupulous, I come up with some ideas.

"A decent bump into each other with a few times as many enemies as your own would be the pinnacle of stupidity. While retreating while avoiding direct combat, throwing stones, spears, fire kettles, etc. are used to increase enemy wear. Or use Zoan's mobility to run around endlessly and poke backwards and sides. Is this the place?

"Then I will divide the army into two or three parts, and I will leave one of them with a trusted general to turn to the side and rear of the rebels."

If this one has more than twice as many troops as the rebels, it's a natural strategy.

Do an attack by throwing a weapon, use your mobility to hit the enemy directly, then you really have to stop your leg. And in the meantime, if you turn a separate squad around to the rear of the enemy and refuse to leave, then you will be annihilated by pinching.

Marius, in agony, tries to come up with the following measures:

"Then what about building a position?

"That's pretty funny. I hear there are many Dwarves among the rebels. They would also be able to build strong positions in the short term. - So, where do we build that position?

"Why don't we make sure we get through, block the streets?

If they drop the city of Bornis, they lose, then the premise is not to let them near the city first. Then it would be natural to build a position in the form of blocking the streets.

"But you can't win if you just lay the ground. Surrounded by us and cooked carefully."

Marius, who knew not to be told the extent of it, had further thoughts. I've been waiting for that word. Just to show it off.

"We will leave only slow-footed dwarves and dinosaurians inside the position and use the Zoans as guerrillas. If the Dwarves, who specialize in cage castle warfare, are caged by the invincible Dinosaurians in the Battle of the White Soldiers, they won't even be able to drop their positions that easy. Plus, if we try to drop the position, we'll make Zoan raid more than that."

So I read to Darius what Marius intended.

"I see. And if we point our spears at Zoan, now Dinosaurian will strike out of the position. If we head that way, Zoan threatens the rear again..."

"Exactly. How about that?

As the honorary student gave the esteemed teacher a combination of exam answers, Marius asked with a glow on his face.

Darius answers his thoughts as he often sneezes his jaw.

"Then it would be better not to build a position on the street. Like carrying a mountain north of the street."

"Do you want me to carry the mountain?

"Uhm. No matter how strong Dwarf's position is, if it can be attacked more than the Quartet, it can be prevented clean. But carrying a mountain prevents you from being attacked from behind. That's not all. By denying yourself a way out, you can catch up with your fellow runaways at a disadvantage and let them fight in madness as they die."

Surrounded by enemies, even soldiers accustomed to battle will float. Then it would be better if you refused to leave yourself, saying that your liver would be seated.

The soldier who so decides to die himself, is strong.

"If the rebels did, how would you attack them?

Speak of widows. If you fight decently with soldiers who are ready to die, you won't lose, but this one will also be devastated. Darius answered Marius, looking like a prank kid, asking him how he would attack such an enemy with such a face as intrigue.

"I'm not fighting those guys properly. I'll leave you alone and drop Bornis first."

◆ ◇ ◆ ◇ ◆

"The place to put up the position is here. Mountains to the north and protruding forests to the east serve as a barrier. Here, you can limit enemy attacks to the south and west."

So the Ethereal Horse turns his face to Dvarin.

"With the power of Dwarf, can you create a position here where you can snub a crusader attack for a while alone?

Dvarin sighed in a grumpy manner. If they say it's with the power of Dwarves, there's no way they can say they can't.

"Exactly, we don't have enough time to create enough positions to evacuate 7,000 enemies. - But if you say it's only for a while, there's nothing wrong with doing it."

To the answer, the pale horse nodded satisfactorily.

But that's where Gallum immediately raises his doubts.

"Why don't the Crusaders ignore us and attack the city first?

That didn't have to be pointed out, and the Ethereal Horse was thinking.

"Of course, it's possible"

But the Ethereal Horse had one secret against it.

"But I have a little plan. If we do well, we can protect the city with one pile of wood without a single soldier."

"In one pile of wood, he said he would protect the city!?"

Everyone voiced surprise at the different accents.

"How the hell do you protect it with one pile of wood!?"

"From seven thousand enemies, I can't believe that's the only way to protect the city!

In one throw after another, the Ethereal Horse tries to hold it down with open hands like "calm down". And the people who had lost me to surprise also regained their calm and calmed their hips.

Then Garam, on behalf of everyone, asks the Ethereal Horse.

"Honestly, I can't believe it. How the hell do you do that?

"I'm sorry. Now, I can't say"

But the Ethereal Horse shook his neck to the side and refused to answer.

"This is the end of a roll if the enemy finds out. Enemy spy on the city from where...... uh, secret detective? Between us? Uh, it doesn't mean those people aren't getting in. Let me keep it a secret until the end of the day."

With such an answer, no one can be convinced. But what the Ethereal Horse says is better. Sighing deeply, Garam had no choice but to convince himself.

Gallum, who changed his mind with it, cast another doubt.

"But even if you created a position there, can you win just that?

Besides, the Ethereal Horse replied absurdly.

"No, you can't win"

Everyone is flabbergasted by the answer of the Ethereal Horse that goes diagonally up the imaginary.

But the answer of the Ethereal Horse continued.

"- So here's what I'm gonna do."

The Ethereal Horse moved its fingers near the entrance to the Sorbiant Plains from where he said he would build a position on the map.

"Keep a handful of Zoan people down around here."

◆ ◇ ◆ ◇ ◆

"… Your Excellency"

Let it be expected, and Marius will clap it out because the answer is to ignore the enemy. Darius shook his beard wide and laughed at Marius looking at him, as he said, "You don't have it."

"I would have said. Drop Bornis and the traitors will be finished. Whether it's the streets or the mountains, if you're caged in a position, would you be happy to drop the empty Bornis?

"That's right..."

Marius says with his eyes shining all the time.

"Yes! You think the leader of the rebels is the one who comes up with unexpected measures? Assuming you can't get our hands on Bornis, you might come! If so, how would you like it?

How will you argue with the rebels who built the position? Darius replied after grinning bitterly at the appearance of such a loving apprentice, who tries to hear it out at all costs.

"After all, I will not divide the army into two parts. Prepare a squad for Zoan's raid, with all the rest of the army, and crush the position first. Then you just have to clean up the Zoans."

Already Darius had heard and grasped from those who fled the city how many subracial slaves were in Bornis at the time of the revolt.

According to that, the total number of Dwarves is around three hundred. Adding Dinosaurians to this doesn't reach four hundred people.

Even if the troops prepared for the Zoan raid were to be divided by two thousand soldiers, more than double Zoan's, there would remain five thousand soldiers in the main unit. No matter how well guarded the Dwarves are, if they have a nearly twenty fold difference in force, it will be time to twist the baby's hand to strike it down.

And if even the positions are dropped, the remaining Zoans will either be wiped out on a futile battle, or they will have to flee and relax to their doom.

But if I am the leader of the rebels, and I have a plan to protect Bornis, I will strike another hand.

"What kind of hand is that?

One big nod and then Darius answers Marius, who brightens his eyes to curiosity and asks.

"If I were you, Zoan, I wouldn't call everything a guerrilla. Instead, leave a small number of soldiers with a trusted general and lay low somewhere"

"Ambush a small number of soldiers, is it?

"If it's not just Dwarves and Dinosaurians, but even the majority of Zoans are to be caged in positions, then we have to hit this one with all the troops. Still, it won't be easy."

So once Darius stopped speaking and stirred up Marius' expectations, he said:

"That's how you poke our steeple with ambushes where you're stuck in a position attack."

Darius' words, Marius' throat, swallowed with solitude, moved with relief.

"When you say steeple?

"Left or right or rear of a dense formation of heavy-duty spear infantry. Or -"

Darius slaps his neck with a flat hand.

"Come and get my neck directly."

◆ ◇ ◆ ◇ ◆

"While we hold off the onslaught of enemy troops attacking us from the south, we move a unit of Zoan's elite..."

Ethereal horse fingers dance eye-catching over the map.

"- And I'll poke the sides of the enemy squad!

A startling look appears on everyone's face who was following that finger movement with their eyes.

I slowly looked around at everyone's face, then the Ethereal Horse said.

"The dense formation by heavy-duty spear infantry is a formation that specializes in attacks on the front. If you poke that side, even if it's inferior to the number of soldiers, you should be able to beat it!

◆ ◇ ◆ ◇ ◆

"If the position crumbles before the ambush, there will be no ex or child. Also, if we split too many soldiers, we can detect the presence of an ambush unit here. Then it would be about two hundred to three hundred, no matter how many estimates, to divide it as an ambush. Then you should strike my direct soldiers with a battalion of two squadrons of Bogus and the others."

Darius went on to say whether this was the man who had reached the realm of old age so much that Marius had to be stunned.

"If you come for my neck directly, you can intercept it. You can also defend the heavy spear infantry unit until it ravages enemy positions. If you try to poke the rear or side of the Heavy Spear Infantry Regiment, on the contrary, even if we poke that side or rear, good again!

◆ ◇ ◆ ◇ ◆

"I will crusade by this ambush!," said the Ethereal Horse.

"I will destroy each and every one of them!," Darius.

The two words were uttered simultaneously in an unexpected and distant land.
