Hakai no Miko

Episode 38: Battlefield Courage

Nestled in a strong northerly breeze, the Ethereal Horse, standing on a cliff with the trees playing the branches noisily behind him, looked down at the camp of the bordering Horse Army, which stretched beneath his eyes.

The bottom of the canyon, which is also blocked by the brilliant (like this) night sky and the brilliant light of the moon, is set in darkness deeper than that of the night. The lights of the bonfire and the innumerable tents lit up for the night guard float through it.

The time is already past midnight. There is also the fatigue of the daytime forcible forces, and most of the border marines are at a time when they are in deep sleep. Few people are found in the camp, and only slightly one or two outposts can be seen for each bonfire. Moreover, when they see that they will not leave the side of the bonfire, they will be placed more concerned about the fire from the bonfire caused by this strong wind than in preparation for unforeseen events such as enemy raids.

Shemr's voice is heard on the back of the Ethereal Horse, who was crushing to observe the state of the Border Marquis.

"Soma. Sounds like you're doing exactly what you expected."

And the Ethereal Horse replied briefly, "Right."

"I lure you into this canyon, and then I will fight the enemy"

And the other day a horse said unto Gallam and the others that had set him up before him in this canyon, saying, This is the word.

Naturally, the Marquis of Apius had previously been made to think that the withdrawal was due to the rebellion of Mendax, and that the deserters were continuing by decreasing the number of Kamadu, all in order to lure the border marquis into the land.

And so far, it has unfolded as expected by the Ethereal Horse, but instead, Shemr raises questions.

"Hey, Soma. The Marquis of Appius and the others are called warriors, right?

"Sounds like it," the Ethereal Horse replies, "Shemr asks further.

"And yet, why were you so easily deceived?

We are no longer a few miles away, but we can confirm our enemies. Though the toy seemed to send out a scourge, the Marquis of Appius nevertheless seemed too alarmed Shemr.

To this question, the Ethereal Horse answers with a bitter smile.

"That's because the Marquis Apius is good at fighting."

Shemr looked grumpy when he didn't understand the answer to the Ethereal Horse. To loyalists who can honestly express their emotions, the pale horse says with a favorable grin.

"In the first place, if we're just going to beat the Marquis of Appius, we don't have to use this kind of measure."

If we compare ourselves, the crusaders, to the Border Marquis, we are outnumbered by our own troops. All of that, or if it is the soldier's level of practice, the border marines, where the rapidly collected peasant militias make up the majority, can be compared to the Ethereal Horses, who bring together the biological warriors.

This would have won enough to keep hitting him from the front.

Moreover, the conscription of the Marquis of Apius presupposed the success of the Mendax rebellion. It would also be possible to leave the Marquis of Apius without a fight, just for the Ethereal Horse, who has safely escaped the King's capital here, to take the lead and show himself.

So after I ran out of saying I didn't need to take measures if I was just going to win, Sakama goes on and on.

"It sounds good when you say you'll take action on it, but to do so, you have to create a gap (suki) that wasn't meant to happen, and you have to act unnecessarily. It's going to give them a gap to close at the same time."

If, for example, the pursuit of the Border Marquis troops had been faster than they had expected, there would have been great damage from being slammed in the back of their disguised retreats.

If, for example, the Marquis of Apius had given priority to the rendezvous of the King's capital to Mendax, convinced of his victory in his own retreat, he would have had to carry out a siege against the borderline martial armies that were said to have fallen into the King's capital, Holmenia.

"If you can truly bump into it and win enough, you've never been over it. As a result, it's often less harmful, and most importantly, it ends the fight early."

So the pale horse shrugged his shoulders and showed them.

"Yet people just want to boast about their tactics to make unwanted moves."

Shemr became convinced of the words of the Ethereal Horse. Such a shemul. A pale horse is half-eyed.

"I'm telling you, I'm not saying I'm a lookout."

Shemr hesitates.

"Huh?! Oh! Of course, I don't think so. Yeah! I don't think so!

It is clearly a lie.

To this betrayal of trusted loyalists, the Ethereal Horse made a wounded face and made him mourn exaggerated.

"Oh! I'm sad to be betrayed by the first minister I trust. By comparison, Marquis Appius seemed to appreciate me properly. He's not the kind of guy who does unnecessary things around here."

"Don't be mean," begged Shemr, who was appalled by the Ethereal Horse, when he looked pitiful. Then the Ethereal Horse, who was not originally angry, laughs and forgives Shemr. Then the Ethereal Horse made his expression serious before speaking further.

"The better the Marquis Apius is called a warrior, the less likely I am to bump into each other head-on here and dare to take measures. Plus, the Marquis of Appius could have driven that judgment crazy enough."

Tell Shemr, "Why is that? Asked," The Ethereal Horse turned his eyes toward the border marines under his eyes.

"I think a man named Marquis Apius has a lot of self-esteem."

The northern part of the Holmeer country was a region that was more developed than others against the backdrop of abundant mining resources. The powers of the northern lords that made it their territory were strong, and they were a force that could hardly be king. He is the Marquis of Apius, called the Alliance Lord among those northern deities, and even a warrior because of his war history. That self-esteem would have been extraordinary.

In fact, even when the Ethereal Horse raided and fell Marben Copper Mountain in an earlier "Battle of Holmea" battle, the Marquis of Apius had just offered to pay in formation while being entrusted to the General of the Crusading Army. If this is the concurrent lord, then he will take the king's inquisition. Marquis Appius, by the way, had only naturally wished for a payment of his own accord.

From this, too, the higher the self-esteem of the Marquis of Apius can be seen.

"But the fact that that self-respecting Marquis of Apius joined hands with Mendax or something is proof that he was still being hunted down?

Mendax, a junior nobleman who would even be in trouble with the food of the day, but without any ability, became a prime minister who could be called the highest peak of his subordinates by his aunts alone, was a man despised by the old ministers and lords of the Holmeer country for being "hemmed". At last, I'm not the person you can ask for when it comes to making a difference.

On the contrary, from the Marquis of Apius, who was born of a wealthy Marquis family and who himself was called a warrior by his numerous martial arts, not just his family, he would have been a Mendax and other beings to spit on.

But I held that hand as a co-conspirator in the rebellion, regardless if I were to use Mendax like that as a distribution. All that, he gave Mendax the great success of occupying the royal castle by naming the head of the Ethereal Horse, and himself cited Mendax as a soldier who would pull off the main force of the Ethereal Horse from the king's capital until he carried the danger that only he could eat for himself if he betrayed or opportunistic (Hitomi).

In view of the high level of self-esteem of the Marquis Apius, I can only imagine how much this was being hunted down.

So the Ethereal Horse said, "Why, did they corner you that far?" and put on his little neck.

From the side of the Ethereal Horse, I never tried to attack the North, and I don't remember forcing my subordinates. Instead, he should have offered a breakthrough reconciliation measure that if he did not like his subordination, he could even recognize independence.

Yet until he conspired with Mendax, the Ethereal Horse felt something uninterrupted by the Marquis of Apius's rebellion of this kind.

But it is no wonder that Joash, entrusted with the mediation of the negotiations, was instead hunting down the Marquis of Appius, not to think of just the Ethereal Horse.

Were you in such a high mood that you couldn't even forgive me for being independent?

That's about all I could think of was a reason for the current Ethereal Horse. I know it's an impossible cliché myself, but now I don't have time or need to pursue the truth. The Ethereal Horse convinced himself with it.

"It's the Marquis of Apius, called the warrior. When I saw the camp we abandoned, I was sure it was unlikely that it would be a disguised retreat."

As the Ethereal Horse speculated, the fact Marquis Apius also took into account the possibility of the Ethereal Horse's measures at that point.

"But too much self-esteem drives that decision crazy"

This could be a disguised retreat by enemy measures. But what if it was really due to the success of the Mendax rebellion? If we remain vigilant in our measures and let our enemies escape, all merits will belong to one Mendax. Then even after regaining the Holmeer nation, that "hemming" becomes the hero of salvation, and he becomes only his collaborator, the ally of the Northern Marquis.

"To the Marquis of Appius, who has high self-esteem, there is no way he can accept that. And what is in front of you is the perfect condition to mention the great success of pursuing fleeing enemies. Come on, can you stand a hungry wolf hanging meat in front of you?

A pale horse glancing at the thought of the Marquis of Appius at that time smiles badly at people.

"I can only see meat anymore. I can't help but eat up. And when that happens, I'm done. Maybe someone around you will pay attention. But it's not honestly acceptable that a self-respecting Marquis Apius might be wrong. The more you're good at fighting, the better. Find many reasons to reason and justify your actions"

The Ethereal Horse points to the Borderline Horse Army at the bottom of the valley with a playful trick.

"As a result, the Marquis de l 'Apius led the armies of the border marquis that were lured into the land."

And to this, Shemr said, "Oh!," he exclaimed in praise.

But as soon as you get a face that realizes something, it snaps your neck tight.

"Hmm? That? Wait a minute, Soma. Isn't that strange? Aren't you the one who said you should fight from the front without using any measures if you just win? What you're saying isn't what you're doing."

"That's right," replies the Ethereal Horse with a laugh to Shemr's most important question.

"Our aim is to beat Mendax and the Marquis of Apius? No, you're not."

After a few moments here, the Ethereal Horse affirms.

"Our purpose is to build a nation. This ridiculous rebellion is about just ending, getting the country excited, and stabilizing!

The Ethereal Horse turns again to the Border Marquis.

"Beating the Marquis of Apius straight from the front is easy. But the majority of the Border Marquis are conscripted northern people. Fight straight from the front and they will have many victims. Then leave a grudge in the north. Besides, the Marquis of Apius was called a warrior. If you see it as a disadvantage, you may be retreated to the city of Rahban. Then you're in trouble."

It is not easy to take down the city of Loughban, known as the fortified city, just because you isolated it. The final Ethereal Horse win would not waver, but it was visible that it would be prolonged.

Now is an important time when the wounds of the previous battle are finally about to heal. If I can do it, I want this kind of crappy civil unrest to end quickly.

To do so, I had to break the Marquis of Appius here and take Mendax of the king's capital with the sword to return it.

That is why the Ethereal Horse lured the Border Marquis Army into the land and adopted measures to take over the Marquis of Appius by striking directly at the enemy formation with ambushes from stretched and thinned sides.

"The Marquises of Appius. The main formation of the northern marquis should always be near the center of the army. Then the front and rear are blocked by the allies, and there is no escape route. I will definitely discuss the Marquises of Appius here with the Northern Marquis!

The Ethereal Horse, overlooking the Border Marquis, looks back at Shemr behind him.

"I think the Marquis Apius is indeed a man called a warrior."

The Border Marquis is an army full of mercenaries hired in gold by the rapidly collected peasant militias. The soldiers will not have loyalty or discipline. Yet the Marquis of Apius had successfully assembled his army and maintained a high morale when he said it was a pursuit in this harsh situation of high winds.

The Marquis of Apius cannot be at least a mortal general.

But the Ethereal Horse assures you.

"But the Marquis of Apius is often nothing but a battlefield bravery"

He was once the Marquis of Appius, entrusted to the general generals of the army to crusade the Ethereal Horses in the Battle of Holmea, but his territory was threatened by the measures of the Ethereal Horse. No or he had appealed directly to King Walius, who had made early payments in formation.

But given the great picture of the Holmeer country, we should certainly have defeated the Ethereal Horse than the security of the territory that might be attacked at that time.

It is also clear from this that no matter how the Marquis Apius is called the Allies of the Northern Marquis or the warriors, it is only the affinity of the local lords and the commander of the battlefield.

The Ethereal Horse affirms with strong pride.

"In Marquis Apius and us, what we see is different. We don't have enemies when you're a warrior, do we?

To the words, Shemr's whole body hair stood bubbly opposite.

"That's my" you under the umbilical "! You're absolutely right! Oh! I'm ashamed of myself. I didn't know you were missing the greatness of my" You Under the Umbrella "!

To Shemr, who praised herself with her sparkling eyes, the Ethereal Horse scratched her reddish cheeks with her fingertips as she looked "overdressed".

To such a smiling obedience, Eladia speaks out after turning her licence into that of an archer hidden in a black cloth because she was dressed as a female chief.

"Dear Soma. While we are in a welcoming conversation with Master Shemr, how about we make the enemy current and talk out loud, no matter how windy he blows his voice off?

To Eladia's point, they panicked and blocked their mouths with both hands. Couscous and laughter leaked from among the women of the elf archers who had refrained behind Eladia, as if they were two children scolded for "shutting up" by a harshly groomed mother.

That stirs up even more shame on the Ethereal Horse and Shemr, and it's time for the two of them to turn their bodies down.

To both of those. Eladia also says with a grin on her lips under a black cloth again.

"Besides, the Zoan warriors, led by Lord Gallam and Lord Banukkah, have finished assembling and have already been reported to have been placed."

It was those who were acting in the guise of deserters and scattered from the main unit led by Garam, one by one.

Originally, it is difficult to rendezvous if scattered in such a small and unfamiliar enemy land. But it is Zoan, who lived hunting in a vast plain with no landmarks whatsoever. With that excellent sense of direction, there is no such thing as assembling at a place you visited once, even at night.

They were assembled continuously in this canyon, as planned in advance, from the rear, which is a dead end for the Border Marquis, whose eyes are turned only to the front, where the fleeing troops are.

"All you have to do is wait for Master Soma's decree"

The Ethereal Horse nods one and then tells Eladia to look up at herself with her bow on the ground and one knee poked to show Kyoujun.

"Just before nightfall, start by beating up the sleeping border marines with the arrows of everyone in the elf."

To the words of the Ethereal Horse, Eladia drooped her head "as you please".

Furthermore, the pale horse continues his words.

"Next, raise the flag we have prepared, and we will all beat the copper and drums and shout out. If you hear it echo the valley, you should be under the illusion that the enemy is surrounded by great armies. I fly a flag there at the same time as I show up, making me think the main force, not a handful of ambushes, has raided, fueling more confusion."

Mollard nodded with a large flag of Ethereal Horse with pedestals and Dwarves with drums and bronzes bearing many flags.

The Ethereal Horse speaks out when he finds the figure of Pipi.

"Our aim is the northern marquises, including the Marquis of Appius. You can't miss them. As soon as you find them, direct the assaulted troops there."

Pipi showed his euphemism for the words of the Ethereal Horse by spreading them to the ground so that they lay down their large wings.

After seeing them, the Ethereal Horse looked around at those who trusted themselves and waited for instructions. And when you breathe small, you turn it into a powerful word to emit.

"Here we are today, picking up the Marquis of Appius and all the other northern marquises!

Everyone responded to this silently, but with a burning fighting spirit.

And a few more minutes after this. And as the Ethereal Horse said, the Marquis of Applius and the other northern marquises were taken away.
