Chapter 235. We Were About To Lose Ourselves Even More... But Catherine Came Back
Her eyes slowly rolled toward him, finding his face in the dim light. Her expression wasn’t one of anger or shame but of a dazed, almost worshipful need.
"Instructor Wade..." she whispered, her voice hoarse and wrecked. "Instructor... William Wade... ah... come here..."
The way she said his name, soft, broken, and utterly vulnerable, hit him harder than any physical blow. The guilt he had felt moments before was instantly incinerated by a fresh wave of possessive desire.
He felt a powerful pull toward her, an almost magnetic attraction to the wrecked, beautiful creature lying before him.
He leaned forward, drawn in by the gravity of her gaze. His hands moved to brace himself on either side of her head, his body hovering inches above hers.
Their breaths mingled, his hot and ragged, hers shallow and sweet. Lia reached up with a weak, unsteady hand, her fingers brushing against his jaw.
Their lips were mere centimeters apart, the tension between them coiled tight enough to snap. He could taste her arousal on the air; she could feel the heat radiating from his skin.
Just as the space between them vanished just as his lips were about to claim hers, a sound shattered the intimacy.
KNOCK. KNOCK. KNOCK.
The sound was sharp, sudden, and unmistakably real. Someone was at the front door.
Both of them froze. The spell was broken instantly.
Lia’s eyes flew wide, the dazed pleasure replaced by immediate, sharp panic. She instinctively pulled the sheet up to cover her exposed breasts, her breath catching in her throat.
William stiffened, his muscles tensing as he pulled back, his gaze darting toward the bedroom door. The silence that followed the knock was deafening, filled only by the sound of their synchronized, panicked breathing.
The adrenaline that had been fueling their ecstasy curdled instantly into cold, sharp anxiety. The three raps on the door sounded like gunshots in the charged atmosphere of the room.
William’s first instinct was to protect what they had just created. He leaned down close to Lia’s ear, his voice a harsh, urgent whisper that cut through her panic.
"Shh, Lia... Calm down."
"Stay here... and don’t make a sound. Also... don’t move from this bed." William nodded. "I’ll handle it."
Lia could only nod weakly, her chest still rising and falling in shallow, terrified jerks. She clutched the sheets to her chest, her eyes fixed on William with a mixture of pleading and terror.
Her skin was still flushed, her hair a wild halo around her face, and the faint smell of their shared climax hung heavy in the air between them.
William stood up abruptly, his heart hammering against his ribs. He glanced down at his hands. They were slick, glistening with Lia’s juices, damning evidence of what had been happening moments before.
He didn’t have time to run to the bathroom; he couldn’t risk being caught away from the door for more than a few seconds. He wiped his hands hastily on his jeans, but it did nothing to remove the telltale sheen or the sticky residue that clung to his skin.
As he turned toward the bedroom door, he heard it: Catherine’s voice, muffled by the hallway walls but unmistakable.
"William? Are you home? I know you’re in there!" Her voice sounded strained and weary. "I know Lia’s there too."
"Open up, please."
William took a steadying breath, trying to smooth his expression into something neutral. He reached for the door handle, his mind racing through plausible lies.
’I was just reading a book technique... We were tired, and we fell asleep.’
He unlocked the door and pulled it open slowly.
Catherine stood there in the hallway light. She looked utterly drained, her shoulders slumped, dark circles under her eyes, her coat hanging loosely off her frame as if the simple act of standing upright required immense effort.
She looked like someone who had been carrying the weight of the world all day. But the moment her eyes landed on William, her entire demeanor shifted.
"William!" she gasped, a genuine smile breaking through her exhaustion. "Oh thank god~!"
The weariness seemed to evaporate as she threw herself forward, seeking comfort. "I’ve had the worst day; I just..."
Before he could respond, she wrapped her arms around his waist in a fierce, desperate hug, pressing her face against his chest. "I missed you so much."
William instinctively wrapped his arms around her, returning the embrace, but his body stiffened immediately. As she pressed closer, her cheek sliding against his shirt and her hands gripping his sides, she felt it.
Her hands moved up to his shoulders to steady herself, and her fingers slid across the fabric of his shirt, catching on the damp, oily residue that had transferred from his hands to his clothes. Then, as she pulled back slightly to look at him, her hand brushed against his wrist where the slickness remained.
"William?" she asked, her brow furrowing as she pulled away just enough to meet his eyes.
She looked down at her own fingertips, then back at him, her confusion overriding her exhaustion. "Why... why are your hands so oily? Did you spill something?"
William felt a bead of sweat threaten to roll down his temple. The silence stretched for half a heartbeat too long before he forced a breath out, transforming his tension into a forced, awkward chuckle that sounded slightly too high-pitched in the quiet hallway.
"Oh, this?" he said, rubbing one hand against the other in a way that he hoped looked casual, though it only served to smear the slick residue further across his skin. "Don’t worry about it, Catherine."
"Lia was complaining about some terrible muscle tension; you know how she gets when she’s stressed, so I was just giving her an oil massage to help her relax."
He offered a lopsided smile, leaning against the doorframe to appear nonchalant. "She actually just drifted off... probably because she was exhausted."
Inside the guest room, Lia froze. Her heart was hammering against her ribs so hard she feared Catherine might hear it through the walls.
’An oil massage?’ The lie was audacious, almost insulting given how she actually felt, but she had no choice.
If she spoke now, or if she let out even a whimper of protest, the entire fragile reality would shatter. She pressed her face into the pillow, squeezing her eyes shut, forcing her breathing to slow.
She had to play along. She had to pretend she was asleep, even as her body still hummed with the aftershocks of what William had done to her.
But beneath the performance, a single, anxious question burned in her mind: ’Will he come back? After this lie, will he come back to finish what he started, or will he abandon me to this guilt?’
Outside, Catherine blinked, her confusion softening into genuine surprise. The suspicion in her eyes faded, replaced by an appreciative glow.
"An oil massage? Since when did you become a spa therapist, William?" she teased, though her voice still carried that underlying note of fatigue.
"Since I realized my girlfriend needed someone to take care of her," he replied smoothly, stepping closer to her and tucking a stray hair behind her ear.
Catherine let out a long, theatrical sigh, leaning her weight against him. "Well, if you’re offering... honestly, I think I need one more than she does right now."
She rubbed her shoulders absently, wincing at the stiffness. "My neck feels like it’s made of granite..."
’Between the faculty meetings and the endless mountain of paperwork from the new semester admissions, I feel like I’ve aged ten years in a week."
William grinned, the corner of his mouth twitching with genuine amusement at the absurdity of the situation.
"Ah, yes... The fearsome vice headmaster of the academy," he joked, using her title to lighten the mood. "Always buried under those enchanted scrolls and disciplinary reports."
"I think the academy would collapse in twenty-four hours if you took a single afternoon off to breathe."
Catherine laughed weakly, the sound genuine despite her tiredness. "Don’t remind me."
"The Dean is relentless, and the students this year are... well, they’re something else."
"I swear, half of them need magic lessons and the other half need a stern talking to." She looked up at him with puppy-dog eyes, her exhaustion mixing with a genuine desire for comfort. "So, is the offer still on the table?"
"After you check on Lia, could you maybe help me work out these knots? I feel like I’m carrying the entire academy on my back."
William looked toward the closed guest room door for a fleeting second, then back to Catherine’s hopeful face.
"Tell you what," he said, his voice dropping to a conspiratorial murmur. "Let me just make sure she’s settled in properly, and then I’ll come help you unwind."
"Deal?"
"Deal," Catherine whispered, squeezing his hand.
William watched Catherine retreat toward the staircase, her footsteps heavy and slow as she climbed toward their shared bedroom. He waited until her shadow disappeared around the landing and the faint creak of her bedroom door signaled she was alone before he allowed himself to exhale.
The adrenaline was receding, leaving behind a cold, hollow tension in his gut.
He turned back to the guest room door, pushing it open with excruciating gentleness. The room was dim, lit only by the pale moonlight filtering through the curtains.
Lia was still there, curled on her side, the sheets pulled up to her chin. She looked smaller than she had moments ago, stripped of her defiance and her arousal, leaving only something raw and exposed.
William closed the door behind him with a soft click and approached the bed.
"Lia?" he whispered.
