Help! My One-Night Stand Is Examining Me?!

Chapter 235 Stay away from the male lead

“Like marrying him, becoming his wife, and so on.”

Eve shook her head. “I haven’t thought about marrying him. His family is from a wealthy, prominent clan, and such families place great importance on social status. My background is nothing special, how could I possibly hope to marry him and live the life of a wealthy socialite?”

“People need to have a sense of self-awareness. What’s meant for you will be yours; what isn’t, is pointless to yearn for. Anyway, as long as I’m by his side now and can scrape together a lot of money to live comfortably, that’s enough for me. As for the future, I don’t even dare to think about it.”

“Besides, I don’t really want that high-society life anyway. They say once you step into a wealthy family, it’s like diving into a deep sea, endless danger and trouble. I’d much rather be on my own, living freely and enjoying my peace and quiet!”

Eve had read plenty of “alpha male” novels where the female lead marries the male lead only to face endless trouble and danger, even though he always shows up just in time to save her.

But all her crises only arise because she’s with him.

So, the only way to keep the heroine safe was to stay away from the male lead.

The same principle applies in real life.

Alana smiled, faintly. “If you ask me, you’re the one with a clear head.”

Eve looked at Alana curiously. “What’s up? Are you thinking about getting married?”

Alana lowered her eyes. “When you meet a man who pampers you and treat you well, isn’t that perfectly normal to wish for more?”

Eve stared at Alana in surprise. “Girl, are you really, truly, completely head over heels with him? You really want to marry him?”

Alana looked up and smiled. “I...I just thought about it. As for whether I’ll actually decide to marry him, I still need to think it over carefully.”

Eve said earnestly, “Then you’d better think it through carefully. After all, this concerns the rest of your life, you can’t just get married on a whim.”

So many people regret getting married because only after getting married do they realize that married life isn’t what they wanted.

“Besides, you told me before that you didn’t plan on getting married at all.”

Alana chuckled. “I also said I didn’t want to date anyone anymore.”

Eve nodded. “That’s right, you did say that. But then Stephan came along.”

“Exactly. So who knows what might happen in the future?”

“Since the future is uncertain, you shouldn’t make promises lightly, otherwise, you’ll end up eating your words the very next moment.”

Alana smiled. After chatting with Eve, she felt much better.

“Let’s go get something to eat. We made a deal: you bring me my phone, and I’ll treat you to a meal.”

Eve agreed with a smile, “Sure!”

She asked deliberately, “But do you want to go to the same restaurant as last night?”

Alana’s eyelid twitched. “No way, let’s try somewhere else.”

She was still a little shaken by what had happened last night.

The two went to a different restaurant. It was a fairly well-known restaurant; she’d heard the food was quite good.

Alana and Eve hadn’t tried it before, so they wanted to check it out.

The restaurant was packed to the brim. With so many people coming here, it probably wouldn’t be a letdown.

The two found a table and sat down, then scanned the QR code to order.

“Should we order the fish head with chopped chili peppers?”

“Let’s order it, a lot of people have recommended it.”

“Let’s also get a plate of chili pork, it looks pretty good.”

“The spicy chicken looks good too, I noticed a lot of people ordering it.”

“Let’s get another plate of stir-fried pork with red peppers, it smells so good. I can

practically taste it already... mmm, my mouth is watering...”

“Let’s get some greens too.”

Meanwhile, at a table a few meters away from them.

Darla and Cynthia were sitting across from each other. The two were regulars at this restaurant, coming in for a meal almost every other day.

Mainly because the hospital cafeteria food was just so-so, and they were too lazy to go home for a meal, so they’d just grab a bite out.

Cynthia asked, “Darla, how are things

going between you and my son lately? Any progress?”

Darla’s expression stiffened.

How was she supposed to answer that?

She’d been trying every which way to run into Stephan these past few days, but she

hadn’t managed to.

She actually had Stephan’s contact information, Cynthia had given it to her so she could get in touch with him.

But as soon as she’d said hello to Stephan, he’d blocked her.

She was too embarrassed to tell Cynthia about such a humiliating incident.

Besides, Stephan had a girlfriend now. She’d intended to properly confirm if the relationship was serious, but work at the hospital had been so hectic these past few days that she hadn’t had much time to look into it.

Besides, it wasn’t even certain if he was going to take the girl seriously, she might just be a secret mistress he was keeping on the side.

If she really were his girlfriend, why wouldn’t he bring her home to meet his parents?

Darla hesitated for a moment. “Auntie, has Stephan brought any woman home recently?”

Cynthia replied without hesitation, “Of course not. Otherwise, I wouldn’t be nagging him about it every day.”

Darla secretly breathed a sigh of relief; perhaps her guess was correct.

“Auntie, I’m sorry. I’ve been so busy lately, and there hasn’t been much progress between me and your son.”

Upon hearing this, Cynthia didn’t want to discourage Darla, so she smiled and reassured her, “I see. It’s okay. Take your time. My son is the type who’s cold on the outside but warm on the inside. As long as you keep at it, he’ll eventually be won over by your warmth and sincerity!”

Darla smiled. “Alright, but you have to help me too, Auntie.”

Cynthia immediately replied, “As soon as we get back, I’ll give that rascal a call and tell him to treat you better!”

Hearing this, Darla felt a little reassured.

With her mother-in-law’s help, things should go much more smoothly.

However, she really didn’t care for the strong flavors of cuisine; after just a couple of bites, she had to take a sip of water.

Besides, the place was too crowded, the smells were too overpowering, and the atmosphere was too down-to-earth, she didn’t like that either.

She really couldn’t understand how Cynthia, a wealthy socialite, could possibly enjoy this kind of down-to-earth restaurant with its rustic, working-class atmosphere.

It didn’t suit her noble status at all.

What kind of place is this for a lady who lives secluded in a wealthy household to come out and eat?

However, she forgot that Cynthia wasn’t just your average reclusive socialite from a wealthy family; she was now a chief physician, one with nearly thirty years of experience, at that, and a professor and expert in her field. Having witnessed the hardships of the world firsthand, her perspective, mindset, and outlook were naturally worlds apart from those of Darla, a green, newly returned doctor from abroad.

Darla scanned the restaurant, her eyes clearly betraying her disdain.

But she soon spotted Alana and was somewhat surprised.

She never expected to run into her just while having a meal.

Cynthia noticed Darla’s gaze and asked curiously, “What are you looking at?”

Darla averted her gaze. “I saw someone who looked familiar.”

“Who?”

“It doesn’t really matter.”

Alana and Eve had eaten and drunk to their fill and were ready to pay the bill

and leave.

When Alana said she’d treat, she meant it. She picked up her phone and went to the cash register to pay the bill.

As she turned around, she accidentally bumped into someone.

She even knocked the other person’s bank card out of their hand.

“I’m so sorry.” Alana immediately picked up the card and was about to return it.

But when she looked at the person she’d bumped into, she felt a vague sense of

familiarity.

But soon, her eyes widened in disbelief.

How could it be...

Cynthia took the bank card Alana handed her and smiled, saying thank you.

But when she saw Alana’s pretty face, she also froze for a moment, feeling a sense of familiarity.

It felt as though she’d seen her somewhere before.

Suddenly, her eyes lit up. “It’s you, young lady. Do you remember me?”

She remembered the young girl standing before her from that day! When her son had personally examined her patient for the first time.
