Helping with Adventurer Party Management

Episode 204: The Seal of the Church

You can't just leave Priest Nicolo's suspicions behind.

I'll be frank about the effect on the business.

"That is the cost of getting the pioneer's shoes marked with the Church's approval of the business. By doing so, pioneers' shoes are recognized as contributing to a wide range of pioneering projects and, together, to improving the lives of peasants, aiming to be effective so that adventurers and churches can compete to buy them."

But that alone does not convince Priest Nicolo.

"Hmm. But that's not all, Kenji. Perhaps the traders in Ichii will compete to mark the mark if it is widely bought."

"It seems so. And the merchants want us to participate in a project that supports a broad rural area."

"But it won't happen. Not only will there come out those who, like you, take formalities into the church and put their mark on it, but also those who do not say no to the church and who take it upon themselves without offering a charity again?

Priest Nicolo is correct in his point.

"That could happen"

"Hmm. Then it would be a problem."

"It will be. Because people should be equal before God."

"Right. And put the same mark on the merchandise, and let not those who give alms and those who do not."

"Yes."

"Is that why?"

"... yes"

"Are you going to use the church for watchdogs? You're not afraid of God at all."

With that said, Priest Nicolo laughed bitterly.

"But it's Kenji. This mechanism certainly has great potential for the future of the Church. Wouldn't it?

Priest Nicolo realizes, just as he does, the magnitude of the profits that this method generates.

That would not be a problem for my shoe business.

"Yes, if we can handle this mechanism carefully, we know it will always help the Cardinal"

And more power (and more) for the Nicolo Priest. Well, that's something you don't even have to put into words.

"So why did you think of letting another organization manage it? Can't you do it in church?"

Indeed, from the point of view of Priest Nicolo, you would want to keep it under your jurisdiction, so it would be natural to ask for an explanation, and you should assume that you are appreciated only when asked why.

I answer with a choice of words.

"I don't think the way the church is managed is familiar with the new way"

"Why?"

"Because it's difficult to manage many cluttered merchants who want to mark their products."

"A large organization like the church is poorly managed and prone to discomfort," you said.

"It's hard to say, to both merchants and administrators, perhaps"

"Right. Are you still there?"

"To this end, we need to be a small, profitable organisation that can change the rules in an active and mobile way"

"You seem to have a solid, concrete picture of the entire organization."

I nod and show the parchment that was round.

"This will be the draft of the organization that will manage the profits"

Priest Nicolo rounded out like the original when he spread the parchment slightly and finished reading it in a short time.

"... the financial details will be made public, and bribes will not be tolerated? Kenji, it's a shame you're not a priest."

"Thank you"

That's what I said and bowed my head.

Thus, a new department was created in the Church to manage the Church's mark (brand), and shoes for pioneers became the number one product of the way the Church made money with its mark (brand).
