Helping with Adventurer Party Management

Episode 304: Crusading the Monster

"Baron, that's the goblin's nest"

As we followed the group's guide for about an hour down the beast path, there was a small cave and two goblins had been shot through and fallen.

Looks like Sword Shield soldiers are preparing to mow and smoke the surrounding firewood, etc. while stiffening the entrance and exit for a few.

"What's that thing doing? You're not letting me go in there?

And the baron asked, so I explain what the sight means.

"That's the general procedure for exorcising monsters from nests. First, quietly knock down the watch. And while cementing the entrance, be vigilant about loopholes and surround the perimeter. Then, smoke it in the incineration. Smoke also has the effect of confusing the monster's vision and sense of smell, and you can expect the effect of discovering it, as smoke rises from the loopholes. If you have poisonous grass around you, mix it up for a stronger effect."

"Hmm. But does that work? Sometimes, depending on the direction of the wind, smoke shouldn't flow in the back?

"It is clear to you. In order to smoke it out, the weather and wind direction of the day are of paramount importance. It is also the adventurer's job to wait until that condition is in place. Depending on that and the size of the hole, the incineration will occur a little bit through the entrance of the cave. Then you block as many entrances and exits as you can with tree branches, etc. By doing so, the smoke will flow inside."

That's what I said, pointing to the branch with the leaves piled next to the wood.

Then the fire is lit in the pine as signaled, and thrown into the wood piled up in the cave.

"All right, block the entrance!

A few people put up branches on the swivelry signals to block the entrance so that no smoke comes out.

Sometimes the number of people were ready, and in less than thirty seconds the entrance and exit of the cave were completely covered by branches and leaves.

"It's a big deal. But why would a goblin make the entrance bigger? If it were bigger, it wouldn't have to be like this."

"Originally, the entrance and exit of the cave were kept large enough to be concealed with branches to make them less noticeable or blocked with branch leaves to prevent windstorms from coming in. Plus, larger entrances and exits make it easier for humans and monsters with larger bodies to come in and out. I wonder if just the right size, balancing convenience and danger, is the size now"

"Well, maybe the other goblin nests are the same size as the entrance and exit."

"Perhaps so. Conversely, the size and number of entrances and exits to the nest hole may allow you to guess the number of goblins inside"

"It's something I'd love to study."

The baron sat in a folding chair brought to him by his entourage and wrote something on parchment.

It takes a little while to smoke out the monster, like this is how me and the Baron are having a conversation with the non-billies.

Eventually, a few muscles of smoke began to rise from the gaps in the rock and from the roots of the trees, which seemed to have nothing.

"Don't go wrong with the air hole and the entrance and exit! Block the air holes!

Swivelry instructions fly.

The cave should be provided with loopholes, but it is not able to allow a large number of monsters to escape at once.

The very narrow gap makes it difficult to get through with a weapon.

To get to this stage, you may say that the goblin sweep is almost over.

There are only two options left for goblins. One head out of the loophole is crushed like a mole slap, or one or eight, we just have to stick it into the source of the smoke and break through the weight of the humans.

But the goblins are basically cowardly monsters. When we have our advantage, we come at us in good shape, but if we are disadvantaged, we run away at first sight.

Besides, few individuals have the courage and wisdom to imitate that when they run away from being chased by smoke, they can penetrate towards the source where the smoke thickens the most.

I tried to wait about an hour, but after leaving a few bodies that I could get my head out of the loophole, most of the goblins were smothered by smoke in the cave, and Swiberry seemed to decide.

The members who were scattered around the cave gather step by step.

"But you're done. What are we going to do now?

From the baron, he was expecting a little more blood-boiling meat dancing plays, like a goblin and a crew cutting together.

Indeed, the Baron's subjectivity would appear to have just walked up to the cave and watched the smoking bonfire.

He looked clapped out and asked about his plans for the future.

"I'm done with it lightly because I like the arms of the Sword Tooth Corps. This is the kind of plain thing that a monster crusade is all about if it's prepared in advance."

And because I know a little about the Baron's mood, I answer with a bitter smile.

"If we pump in smoke for a while longer, we'll remove the hole cover and replace it with bad air overnight before it's night. Please wait until tomorrow morning to explore the cave"

"I see. Surely, you'll need as much time as that"

"And I'm capturing a few goblins alive. Would you like to make an observation today?

"Uhm! Do that!

I continued with a bitter smile at the Baron, who rose up energetically from what seemed boring until then.
