Helping with Adventurer Party Management

Episode 506: The Character of Warehousing

"First, I want to hear about the warehouse experts"

Standing up in response to his voice was a big, well-burned, thin-eyed man.

Even from above the priestly clothes, he had a working-like temperament with well-developed muscles.

"I will be with Bentham again. We are engaged in the construction of wheat warehouses at the request of churches and aristocrats in the Wang capital"

After naming him that, he threw questions to the audience in line.

"Does anyone have any experience in managing wheat in this?

Then I couldn't get my hands up from among the experts, and a couple of hands up from among the new officials.

"Hmm. That's right, the deputy's official is excellent, even if he's young. As you can see, deputies, civilians like us are less likely to engage in the management of warehouses, even if they are experts. So let me explain from the basics."

"Do so"

When he gave permission, Bentham nodded and began to explain in a loud, well-deserved voice.

"Wheat warehouses are made among us to say, let us build castles rather than houses. Wheat supports the lives of the people, and the warehouse where it's gathered is a mass of property, so it's under a variety of threats."

Bentham specifically went on to explain whether he felt that many of the audience had an "exaggerated or not" look.

"Creatures that devour wheat, such as rats and insects. Water that rots wheat such as rain leaks and moisture. Bandits trying to steal wheat. Fire. To protect wheat from those threats, it is usually strictly guarded by a painting of a castle or mansion. Wheat is brought in once a year immediately after harvest, and basically stays there until the following year, except some are cashed, so if it's equipment to keep it in place, there's no problem."

"But then it's not functional enough for this warehouse."

"Exactly, yes"

In response to my point, Bentham nodded, not to be offended.

"I've been listening to you and I've noticed that it's not enough in the warehouse I was thinking about. For once, I had a plan that I had been thinking about, but I decided to rethink it."

With that said, I threw aside at my feet what looked like a blueprint written on parchment paper I had removed from my nose.

"The warehouse required by the deputy needs to store as many as 10 water wheels are operational, something with different properties of storage: wheat and flour. It must also record and manage the flows that are continuously carried in and out through water transport. This is a new way of thinking for us. We have to build a new kind of warehouse."

Speaking of which, I somehow recall that the original world warehouse had a wide open mouth for loading and unloading trucks and such.

"For example, the height of the ceiling in the warehouse, but this has to be done so that it is easier to load and unload, so that you don't pile up too many bags of wheat, etc. If you don't move them for a year, piling them up to mountainous heights is not a problem, but like this story, you have to make sure that there is no such thing as just carrying out the bag at the bottom of a bag of wheat that is many times the height of a person, etc."

Speaking of which, I think Bonyari listened to a warehouse expert who said that there are no forklifts, pallets, etc.

A warehouse that handles large quantities of heavy goods operated by manpower alone?

The Adventurer Guild warehouse was managed in small quantities and in a wide variety of ways, so the original world method could be used as is, but another twist is likely to be needed.
