287. Taking a risk for… (5)

“Can I double majoring in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and Aerospace Engineering? ”

Jamie Turner asked this question in a mentoring program that took place at the end of the qualifying orientation.

The neurotic superior student who was questioned raised his glasses. I'm trying to hide my face, but I don't think there's anything I can do.

“Well, first of all, MIT doesn't have a Dual major. We call it Double major. ”

After revealing a stubborn and micro-obsessed vocabulary, the senior student spoke.

“And to answer the question, yes. I can take EECS and AE for revenge. Instead, your life's gonna suck. ”

Then the senior student vomited ten times about how blunt and reckless the greed of a preliminary first-grader was before his eyes.

“EECS and AE are the hard-core major TOP2 in MIT. It's also the area where our schools are best rated. They're both probably number one in the world rankings. ”

Jamie had a hard smile on her mouth.

“Yes, I know. ”

Nod.

“So I chose this school. I heard it was the best on Earth. ”

Superior student frowns.

“But majoring in both is eating up too much resources. You know, Turner. You're only 18 now, and your life is so free and bored? Is that why you want to make it more interesting by twisting it? I wouldn't recommend it if it wasn't. If you submit a paper and don't fall into the field study, you won't even have time to go to the bathroom. ”

The senior student actively tried to make Jamie happy. I have already witnessed with two eyes how miserable the lives of undergraduates who took one of the two major courses can be. How dare you choose both?

But even though he was frightened of elongation, Jamie did not have a tingling hue. Rather, there was a glimmer of expectation and curiosity in their eyes.

“Ehh.”

After seeing that look, the senior student finally gives up persuasion.

“Well, what good would it do if I told you about it for a hundred days? You have to experience it yourself.”

The senior student thought that even this naive boy, whose greed boils before admission, will face reality and cut the height and size of his dreams to the right size as the semester begins.

“Keep this in mind. Graduation can be difficult in four years if the unit completion starts to twist in the first grade. ”

It was a sensible point. I am rather concerned that Jamie's overzealousness may be disruptive to her undergraduate management.

But if you don't listen to him seriously, Jamie's mouth still has a pleasant smile.

“Time doesn't matter to me. ”

Superior student turned nosebleed. Yeah, I'm still 18. It's a kid.

Jamie doesn't seem to be beating his choices. I saw how hard this freshman must have been for the first year. They will be deprived of all the opportunities that make up their human lives, such as earning allowances on a part-time basis, doing club activities at the end of class, or travelling on weekends and holidays.

He didn't doubt it.

But his projections became completely missed.

“Oh, my God, Turner. Is this really the paper you wrote? ”

Olivier Lindbergh, Professor of MIT and Director of the MIT AI Institute, was looking down at the paper in his hand, saying he couldn't believe it. Originally, she did not give lectures to undergraduates. When Professor Jamie Turner saw the assignment submitted this time, he ran to her, and Olivier, who had read it, turned his eyes upside down.

She says, pointing out some parts of the assignment.

“Some of the things you quote here include concepts that you don't yet teach at the undergraduate level, modeling that we did in our lab just a few months ago, and algorithms that are almost similar. ”

The professor turned his gaze and looked at the freshman sitting in his lab.

“Do you really understand all these meanings? ”

She asked an intensified question about some of the concepts written in the assignment as though she would not believe them, and Jamie immediately gave all those answers. Then a more frightening light blossomed on his face.

“How do you know something you didn't even teach in a lecture? ”

“I'm very interested in AI. I've referenced a lot of paper databases. ”

The face of the professor is recalled.

“Oh, my God, if I wrote this alone. You're a genius I haven't seen in over 30 years. ”

I hear voices.

“There was a treasure among the freshmen this year! ”

Jamie just laughed quietly.

“What do you think? It's not a program where undergraduates are involved, but · · ·. ”

She gave him an offer she had never made to undergraduate students so far.

“Turner, if you're interested in artificial intelligence, why don't you join our lab? It's gonna be a great opportunity for you, too. ”

Jamie nods without delay, as if waiting.

“Yes! It's an honor. ”

And a few days later, a similar thing happened in the laboratory of the authoritative professor of aerospace engineering, and the rumors quickly spread.

There's a great genius in this freshman class!

In particular, it was unprecedented that undergraduate students participated simultaneously in the projects of the RAP, directed by the authorities of electrical and aerospace engineering, respectively.

The students who told the story thought, It's an impossible schedule, no matter how genius, and he must be an intellectual masochist who abuses himself with his own discipline. I'm just buried studying and studying all day long, so I'm sure Nudd wouldn't be interested in life outside the door.

But people who knew Jamie laughed at it.

“Jamie, where are you going again? ”

He had a huge camping backpack to cover his back, and Jamie was visiting the dormitory.

“I'm going to Bear Brook today. ”

Jamie wandered around nearby state parks and tourist attractions after a weekend. When I was on vacation, I also crossed the United States eastward.

“New Hampshire this time? Anyway, he's a travel enthusiast. I don't know how to do all the alternate studies on that tight schedule. ”

The roommate shrugs. Anyway, a friend in front of his eyes was a wondrous genius. The criminals will also be busy following his schedule. But Jamie is so relaxed.

“If you like to travel like that, won't you come with me to Europe on this vacation? I'm recruiting a few members right now. ”

But Jamie shook his head.

“No, I'm done wandering around in America. ”

“Why? Don't you care about foreign countries? ”

“It's not just my district. ”

His classmate thought Jamie's words were simply a matter of foe.

Over time, one Sunday morning, Jamie had to go to class, but she was packing again.

The roommate who came out of the dormitory living room while she was asleep because she had plenty of time until her first class today opened her eyes wide.

“Good mor. What, now you're skipping class and traveling? ”

“I'm not going on a trip, I'm going to Philly. I think I'm gonna sleep one night. ”

“Philadelphia? Why are you suddenly there? ”

“I have someone to meet. ”

“What's so important that you can skip class? ”

“Yeah, it's important. ”

Then he looks embarrassed.

“If you don't want to get kicked out of here, you have to get permission from your host. ”

“Here? The dormitory? That doesn't make any sense. Who's gonna kick you out of the dorm? ”

And the owner of the dormitory is the school headquarters. Why are you going to Philadelphia?

Eventually, Jamie turned to the dormitory door without answering her roommate's question.

“Well, I'll be right back. ”

The roommate asks towards his back.

“You're coming tomorrow, right? ”

Without turning around, Jamie replied.

“· · · Yes. If things go well. ”

The roommate yawns and scratches the head with a crowbar.

“Hahah! I don't know what it is, but I hope things work out. Dude, you're never absent, and if you miss class for more than two days, everybody's gonna be shocked. That Mazokist eventually turned and said, ”

Jamie replied to the roommate's jokes, with her back and face invisible.

“I hope so, too. · · · I hope to see you again tomorrow. ”

With that said, Jamie leaves the door.

Range in downtown Philadelphia. Just before the old Camry stopped in front of me, I didn't notice that he was approaching.

Bread!

The horn rings and the window of the next window stops.

What is it? ’

I asked the floor of my chest, but he was similar to me.

But I don't really feel the magic in there. ’

The driver who stops the car raises his head toward the window. It was the young man who still remained to reveal his face.

“Hello? You're waiting for me, aren't you? ”

What an ordinary impression. It's hard for foreigners to measure their age, but no matter how many men in front of their eyes, they know they're in their early twenties.

And what was more ordinary than the impression was the energy he had.

Thanks to the equipped horsepower circuit, I can almost capture the hidden horsepower. But the man in front of his eyes is really close to pure white.

Truly, who is the Savior?

Did not notice my complicated thoughts, the man touched with a bright smile.

“You want to go first? Let's eat something and talk. ”

I nodded and sat in the passenger seat, as I needed to turn the time off while approaching. Starting the car, a man speaks in a light tone.

“Even though Erlean mentioned it in advance, it's a great soul. It was true that no matter how much I was changing, I would recognize it. ”

“· · · Erlean? ”

“Yeah. You've met him already, right? My family.”

· · · · · aah. That pervert Gossari.

“Was his name Erlean? ”

“Yes, Errien. Erlian? It's awkward that I never pronounced it as a human provocative organ. It's not exactly the same, but it's roughly the same pronunciation. ”

Then he reveals his teeth and spills a nasty laugh.

“I confessed with sincerity, knowing it was an excuse, but you kicked it out very nicely? We have a lot of grief. ”

“ · · · · · ·. ”

I said something that was not worth answering, but I missed the answer because I needed to focus on my mind rather than be offended.

“By the way · · ·. ”

Turning the handle, the man raises his eyes.

“I'm not talking about the subject I asked you to meet first, but why did you decide to meet me here? ”

There was a little annoyance in my voice.

I hardened myself with tension for a moment. Did you notice?

In fact, it was the intention of the pioneers to meet in a location close to the Philadelphia Channel in the event of an emergency.

But what followed was far from what I expected.

A man frowns.

“Do you know how shitty it is to park in this neighborhood? Aw, fuck you every time you come. ”

“ · · · · · ·. ”

But I found a disturbing expression in his words.

Every time you come?

“Do you come here often? ”

A man laughed.

“Yes, I come often. I wonder if there's a hill to shine on. ”

“A hill to shine on? ”

He doesn't drive, he turns his eyes to me. And I looked at my chest.

“It's my old dorm. ”

“· · · Dormitory? ”

Hitachi, a man laughs.

“The pioneers. ”
