Herscherik (Reincarnated Prince Series)

Chapter iv fog rain, hunch and surprise raid part one

The 20,000 soldiers led by Hershelik arrived as originally planned and a few days later they reached the border fort.

(... Something's wrong.

Hershelik leaks a sigh as he is rocked by the carriage. But that doesn't mean I'm a wagon drunk.

(Too well, disgusting.

Minister Barbasse's ploy led him to join the army in the name of morale and encouragement for the soldiers. So something will be set up, yes Hershelik expected. But he left the capital and finished three quarters of the march, but nothing happened. That makes me feel uncomfortable as if my fishy little bone was stuck in my throat.

If I looked outside the carriage, the fog was covering my sight. It has been raining heavily over the past few days. There was still fog and rain, fog and poor vision.

"The rain continues, the sight is bad...... and the place.

Hershelik shrugs. It's a habit that Hershelik occasionally does when he thinks about things as he grumbles and organizes his mind. Even in my previous life I had a habit of bumping and whining when I got stuck at work.

The place we're traveling now is a narrow road, with both sides covered in trees with gentle slopes. As we pass through this place, we become a thin and long formation of the army.

When I first saw the topography of this place on the map, Hershelik had a bad feeling. It's called a geeky hunch from a previous life. Previous life I enjoyed movies in multigenre games, books, and animations, except horror ones. Among them, there were many war objects. Many of those games start with working out strategies and tactics as well as combat. From the setting of personnel and supplies, the marching path, terrain and weather on the battlefield are also heavily involved in winning and losing.

Those geeky experiences were alarming. But to explain the hunch, there was too little ingredient to change course.

Hershelik leaks a sigh.

"Hershey?"

Siro, who was on the carriage as usual, raises his gaze from the book and asks. By the way, he's brought in a few of his favorite books for this march. Hershelik told him to roar with a wrinkle between his eyebrows.

"I have a really bad feeling about something.

Long stretched lines, trees thriving on a sleek slope flanked by both sides, bad weather with obscure visibility, and unpleasant feeling coming in.

Fuji became noisy outside. Something pierces continuously from the ceiling, and I hear the soldiers' anger.

When Hershelik covers his face with both hands, he falls from his back into a pile of cushions placed in his seat. The dust fell in the car and Shiro looked at him, but Hershelik didn't notice because he was covering his sight.

"...... I hit it in the worst direction, nerd hunch.

Hershelik murmured powerlessly, saying his hunch always strikes in an unpleasant direction.

"Let go. Eh."

In the fog, the decree of another, not commander of the Gracis Royal Army, echoed. The sound of slashing the wind from the slopes that flank it on the signals, not the rain, but the arrows pouring down on the army.

The Royal Army can't move suddenly. An arrow poured down on its immobile army relentlessly drops the knights off the horse, the horses hiss, and the soldiers bathe their bodies and scream the arrows that flew through the roof made of carriage cloth.

"Enemy attack."

I don't know who screamed. But the voice was the signal.

From the slope, the enemy troops slipped into the weir, breaking up a long stretched line. The soldiers rush to jump off the carriage and take their weapons, but behind them, with a sword, the soldiers of the kingdom pierced by spears open their eyes and die.

A lion's flag with a crown was seen in the eyes of a soldier who fell over muddy water and waited for his death. It was the flag of the Atorad Empire.

"hey... why..."

That's all the whining. The soldiers' lives disappeared. And there's a lot of screaming and rage on the battlefield. Twenty thousand troops were knocked down into the abyss of chaos.

Theodore Seguin takes a breath into the current tragedy.

"General Seguin, the enemy... the enemy army is coming from the slopes on both sides! The army has been badly damaged!!

"What is it, and?

Theodore can wolf at reports of his men screaming like screams. No matter how close the border was, there could have been no surprise raids on this occasion. Because there is a border fort between the current location and imperial territory, there is no way that enemy forces can make it through. But that was apart from Theodore's wolf.

Theodore screams in his mind.

(Isn't that a different story...... ugh)

At the beginning of his march, he was more secretly ordained than a minister. That meant giving the seventh prince to the enemy, whom the minister was jeopardizing.

Here's the scenario. The prince enters the border fort, but the enemy army exceeds expectations by 100,000 large troops. Now the Royal Army can't even beat you with 20,000. So he offered the prince to the hostages to negotiate. Nor can the prince say no if he sees the great army in front of him, nor can he drive the soldiers to a dead place to be missed.

Besides, this had already been acknowledged by the Minister and the Empire, who had planned to take a glance at the dangerous elements he called the Prince and conclude a pact of peace only at the sacrifice of the Empire and the Prince. If it works, push all the blame on the mercenary general.

At present, however, this was a completely different development than the Minister's instructions.

"As it is...... Gah"

A subordinate attempting to continue reporting is desperate with his back of his head pierced with arrows.

"Hii."

Theodore enjoyed the possibility of falling horses. He was certainly a general, but the main thing was to give instructions at the rear headquarters, not a general who would vibrate his own martial arts. And then something unexpected happened, and my life was in danger and confused.

Another man rushes to Theodore next to the body of a dead man.

"General Seguin! Instructions!

"……….

"What?"

I couldn't hear the noise around me and the noise was so low that my men heard me back, but I set up a shield to protect myself from the flying arrows, so I never heard Theodore's voice afterwards. I unloaded the shield I put up on defense. When I looked at the general again, he was about to go against his horse's head.

"Leaving. Cavalry continues to me!

To Theodore to shout so, his men open their eyes as they shield their impending arrows. My men chased me to Theodore trying to rush out early.

"But the other soldiers……………"

Theodore turns his bloody eyes to his men, who ask him what the soldiers who are infantry will do, and throws up his words.

"You know what! My life is the best!

That's how I run out of horses screaming. The cavalry hesitated for a moment, too, but followed suit. Nobody wanted to die here.

There was one boy soldier staring at the condition.

(No……………)

Roy couldn't believe what happened in front of him.

At the time of the enemy attack, he was lucky not to receive an arrow, he could only hide in the shadow of the carriage just beside the general and watch his friend, who had been talking until yesterday, fall down with an arrow. A senior soldier with a weapon was ordered to ask for instructions, and he reached the general with the intention of dying. But the general escaped for his own safety. In front of my own eyes.

Besides, his general said.

'Unlike His Excellency's story.............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

(Unlike your Excellency's story? What do you mean?)

Roy didn't understand what was going on. The only thing I understood was that the general abandoned us and that the blonde prince was in imminent danger.

"Kill him. Yes!!

An enemy scream sounded and Roy's thought was interrupted. The smell of blood fills me when I think I hear a scream right on the side. The beating was faster and the wet armor felt cold and heavy due to the rain.

"Die yes!!

If you look back at your voice, your enemies will be waving their swords up in front of you.

"Ho ho.

Heath, knocking down an arrow with a battle axe along with a hung voice with no shards of tension, looks down from the horse at the deputy who rushed over. The deputy made a report while alerting the area, holding a small shield with his sword in his dominant hand and a small shield in his reverse.

"General Blaze, this is a report.

"I don't really want to hear it, but shall I?

Heath nods with his battle axe in place. The words sounded mild, but his eyes were vigilant around him.

"It's impossible, but I was ambushed by the Atorad Imperial Army.

He was competent as a deputy in the castle and on the battlefield. Never panic. The sober deputy tells the facts pale.

"I don't know exactly how many, but around five thousand, they could be lurking around. Another army led by General Seguin is in turmoil and the chain of command is in turmoil.

"Where is General Seguin?

"Unknown.

Heath leaks a sigh in response to a short response.

It is strange in itself to be ambushed by the Imperial Army when it comes to being in the country first. There must be self-armies deployed along the border, including fortifications. Then where has this Imperial Army entered the country from?

There's one thing I can think of. It means that we have come through the Principality of Parche, which is adjacent both to our country and to the Empire. The Principality is the home country of the current Queen and a friendly relationship with the Kingdom. So the principality betrayed the great power and took the side of the empire?

(No, you don't.

Heath immediately denies the idea. If that's the case, my own intelligence must be grabbing it. And no matter how much more power the empire has gained in recent years, the kingdom is still better off. It was difficult to believe that a principality that was good at reading the flow under such circumstances would easily betray the kingdom.

Then why did the enemy appear?

A soldier rushed over to his deputy. When the deputy receives the report, he lowers his men and reports again.

"General Blaze, depending on the current report, the enemy army seems to be looking for a certain person.

"Person?"

Heath knocks down an arrow that flies in as she asks. The deputy said, similarly preventing the flying arrow with a small shield.

"Give me His Highness Hershelik.

Heath solidified for a moment in that report, and leaked a deep sigh as if she had also forgotten that it was being raided.

"You mean that.

Just a word, that's what I leaked.

Then there was a convincing explanation for weaving speculation in Heath.

The enemy was not only outside, but inside as well.

(Everything sucks as expected, huh? I won't do it at all......)

I get caught up all the time. And you're going to wipe your ass. But I'd like to forgive you for getting caught up in this and dying. Instantly Heath judges.

"Shh... hey, give me a circular to get in formation right away. Retreat as soon as you are ready to leave the scene. Troop 1 will then proceed immediately to the First Army to confirm the safety of General Seguin. If General Seguin survives, no problem. In the unlikely event of General Seguin's death or disappearance, the captain shall have control of the chain of command and direct him to the retreat point where he was notified in advance while responding. Tell him it's all my orders.

The usual floating atmosphere changed, the arrow inherited early for support, and the deputy immediately runs the decree. But I immediately noticed the problem.

"What about His Royal Highness?

There were no more instructions for the prince than there were just now. The deputy officer asks what the prince, the flag of this army, will do.

"Fine. Don't think about that now.

But Heath overtakes the deputy's doubts.

"Everyone is standing on their feet in an ambush. If you stay like this, the army will collapse into ruins. Prioritize the rebuilding of the army over the prince.

"But..."

Heath turns her suspicious attention to the deputy.

"You said you weren't interested in women, but could that be that kind of sexuality?

"No.

A subordinate who turns his gaze on the words of his boss so that he can kill them and immediately denies them. Let such a subordinate flatter his shoulders that Heath is joking. He doesn't break his own pace when it comes to predicament, which is why the deputy was able to afford it. Heath declares to the deputy.

"I'll take all the blame. Do as I say.

The face was that of a man called The Undefeated General.

Why is he called 'undefeated' instead of 'ever-winning'? It's simply 'unbeatable'.

At least the deputy has never seen Heath lose, from under him. He doesn't have to win or lose. Even under overwhelmingly unfavourable circumstances, even if you can't win, you create a situation in favor of your own army and bring it to an end. That's why he's called The Undefeated General.

"……… Understood.

The deputy snorted at the words of the undefeated general.
