Herscherik (Reincarnated Prince Series)
Chapter Four: Mad Kings, Life and Covenants Part One
Hershelik closes a thick book in his own study that a seven-year-old can't possibly read, and sighs zero. Because this book also didn't have what he was looking for on it, and he was going to waste his time.
On the third day of inviting Krenai and Ao to the castle, Hershelik was in a cage and doing research.
"I don't think so either.
Saying so, Hershelik throws a thick book out of demeanor. The contents are a compilation of the legal relations of the Kingdom of Gracis.
"I've read all the blind books, but I don't see them at all..."
When I was alone, I weakened and put my weight on my back and looked up at the ceiling.
What Hershelik is looking for now is a record of the time when the abolition of slavery and the ban on trafficking in human beings, as well as the ban on the entry of other races, were established by law. Of course I have a record. However, it is a bullet point such as the number of years in which it was enacted, and there is no scope left for Hershelik to look for with regard to the background of its enactment. It was all exercised with the lives of the then king and previous generations.
(Something's catching on.
Hershelik wrinkles between his eyebrows and roars on a large sofa.
The trigger was still the presence of the Ao of Klenai and the Beastman tribe.
It will never be possible if we just let them flee the country, Hershelik concluded after returning to the castle. Extreme imprisonment in the light of the laws of this country, but if it is discovered. Then all you have to do is get him out of the country before he discovers it.
In the past, Hershelik had been helping people because of certain circumstances, and he got many handouts at that time. It was found not only in the castle towns but also in each region, using its legend and the position of saying royalty, and further anticipating the period, it was thought that it would be possible to get the two of them out of the country.
But a different question arose.
Why has this country abolished slavery, banned trafficking in human beings, and why does it refuse other races so stubbornly...... the more I look into it, the more questions come to mind and I feel uncomfortable.
I also asked the teacher, but only clouding the words returned answers that did not give me the guidelines, and reading the book did not give Hershelik a satisfactory answer.
"…… do we have to ask this now?
As far as I could find out, I did my best. Then I'll have to ask someone who knows.
Hershelik stepped off the couch and left the room behind in order to mount the promise.
After dinner, Hershelik visited a room in the rear palace. A modest knock confirms the response from the inside and Hershelik enters the room. And I bowed on the spot.
"Father, where you are tired, thank you for taking the time.
Saying so and looking up, a man sitting back relaxed on the couch on the side of the fireplace greeted me with a smile.
White skin on long straight hair with platinum like a collection of moonlight. A beautiful, neat looking man smiled more than his beautifully shaped brothers. His name is Soluyeh Gracis. He is the twenty-third king of the kingdom of Gracis and the father of the fruits of Hershelik. The only thing I have in common with Hershelik is a jade-like blue eye. I can see him in his late twenties but he's actually over forty and he's so young that I don't think he's a parent with nearly ten children. Hershelik was now tired from his memory, but it did not appear that the phenomenon of aging was occurring. Besides, she keeps her youth without anything special if she asks, and Hershelik thinks that women from all over the world would go nuts if they heard.
Such an unconscious young man's father invited him with a superb smile on his beloved last son who came into the room.
"There's nothing to worry about. Come here, Hershey.
Hershelik comes close to Soluyeh, as he was told. Then Soldier gently lifts my son up and puts him on his own lap. In an unexpected hug, the contents were a good year, so I blushed from shame, but Soluyeh said without realizing it, stroking Hershelik's sarah, thin shade of blonde hair.
"Luke tells me to get some rest, too. So glad I got time with Hershey this way. And..."
Saying so, he stops his hand stroking my child.
"Now I want to regain some of the trust of the people. I want to make it a country where everyone can live in peace... I have to.
And Soldier groans sadly, but with determination.
"That is the sin that I can do.
"Father..."
Hershelik knows that the words are heavier than he imagined.
Soldier, my father, used to make mistakes as a king. I could not stop the tyranny of a party of ministers who took my own family and ran wild more than the country. As a result, the country inclined, which caused more people to suffer.
So I guess, since the minister's gone, Soldier has been vigorously in politics. As well as staffing, there is a wide variety of official duties, ranging from the review of tax collections everywhere to the reorganization of the budget, diplomatic strategy and restructuring of the army, which the nobles like to organize.
Even when the ministers were partitioning the country with our faces, they were busy doing the workload every day that seemed more than that.
Of course I don't work enough to break my body. Especially since Luke, the king's principal deacon, understands the character and abilities of the Lord, he takes more time off and adjusts his workload.
"It's okay.
Hershelik says as if to reassure his sad looking father.
"My father is not alone anymore.
The two adult brothers are suddenly surrounded by aids so that their father can make it a little easier. Hershelik himself has rewashed his past cases and hopes to help his father. Other brothers are helping as much as they can.
"Let me help you, too, with a slight force.
"…… Thank you, Hershey.
A sad expression disappeared from Solje in the words of his last son, changing into something soft, and when he stroked his head only once more, he let go of his hand.
"Now Hershey, what's the story?
"Actually..."
Hershelik speaks so much. Seems like a rare choice of words for him, Soldier said what he was trying to say when he laughed dull.
"Is that about the pair that followed me, especially the youth?
Hershelik rounds his eyes to Solje's words.
"Did you know?
"Because I have a lead butler who can count on me, too.
No one goes to Luke's right about the situation in the castle or the recent changes. What's more, Hershelik's behavior, which creates problems, can be somewhat rumored even if he doesn't know the details, but Soldier didn't dare to put it into words.
Hershelik prepares himself and looks straight at Soldier. The gaze of the eyes of the same color exchanged.
"Father, why is this country banning the entry of other races? Until then, why are you trying to get rid of the multiracial?
"…… from where, shall we talk?
Soldier thinks. Speaking of which, I remember talking about putting my kid on my lap like this before. It grew a lot more than that and weighed heavier. But what changed was not only the appearance, but the presence seemed to have grown.
Soldier could not speak to my child, who cries that he is powerless in that meadow. He was only sitting on the throne in a noble puppet, because he did not carry the words together. All I could do then was stay on my side until my child stopped crying.
But he lived through his grief and saved his country. Unlike myself, who stopped being helpless, I kept going without giving up being helpless.
It would be premature for him to talk about this. But Soldier knew that deception wouldn't work, as it did then. And now, I have words to answer him.
"How far does Hersche know about the involvement, slavery and trafficking of other races in this country?
To his father's words, Hershelik opens his mouth as he remembers the book he read during the day.
"I studied until earlier generations of kings, great-grandfather, banned immigration and human trafficking of other races, and abolished slavery and disposed of those of other races in the province.
Whether I asked a history teacher or read a book, the content remained the same. Solje nods at Hershelik's answer.
"Were you uncomfortable with that?
To my father's question, Hershelik thought for a few beats and then told me to get lost.
"... even when it comes to slavery, it's a workforce. I think forcibly disposing of that is also a major blow financially. Besides, nobility is the majority who owned slaves. I think the rebellion was also imperative.
Hershelik himself, I don't want to admit the existence of what he calls slavery. That was a value because I have memories of my previous life. Even with a slight difference in appearance, I find it disgusting to treat those who possess personality and emotions just like me, as if they were objects.
But from a different perspective, slavery is an asset. Having many slaves means guaranteeing their clothing and shelter for that matter and gaining the labor force as a consideration. So the more wealthy man owned the slave, and turned his workforce into profit. Therefore, if the workforce had been taken up, albeit by the king's life, there would have been a great deal of confusion at the time.
"Plus I collected it all the way to the region, because it's unnatural.
It also caught me why I had to go out of my way to collect the slaves in one place for disposition. If you say it in a disgusting way, if you dispose of it on the spot, it will not cost you to travel. It's strange why you bothered to spend money to kill him, Hershelik thinks.
"Yeah, Hershey's right.
Soldier agrees with Hershelik.
"My father was called King of Wise Eyes because of his brilliance.
If it had not been assassinated by Minister Barbasse, this country would have developed shamelessly as a major power, as called for by neighbouring countries, says Soluyeh.
"And the kings of earlier generations were called like this after their death. Mad King...... with Mad King.
"... why?
Hershelik's eyes said he was the king of his country. That's what Soldier keeps saying to him.
"I hear that the previous generations were very calm but weak personages.
At the time it was not dominated by a faction like Minister Barbasse, but by the presence of many noble factions, whose feuds between factions were active. The previous generations, kings of times when they did not like strife, practised opportunistic government as the nobles said.
"But I didn't give up just one point the other day. His queen had no side room but her beloved queen.
He was a feeble king, but he never shook his head vertically when the nobles said he could turn his daughter to the side room.
There are two kids. Brother Prince and sister Princess. He was a friendly royal family. But a tragedy struck the royal family.
"One day, the queen was killed by a slave beast tribe.
Hershelik takes a breath. But I did not pinch my mouth and waited for my father's words to continue.
"No, the facts are a little different. A child of slaves jumped out in front of the carriage on which the queen rode, and the horse was surprised and the carriage turned sideways. The queen I was riding was a bad hit and I hear she's dead.
The king who lost his beloved from it went mad. He forced the abolition of slavery in order to eliminate the Beasts who had taken their beloved Queen, executed all the Beasts who had been slaves in the country, prohibited the entry of the Beasts and other non-human beings into the country, and also prohibited the trafficking in human beings, with which trafficking in predominantly non-human species was carried out. If he broke the law, he would not divulge it, he would be sentenced to a maximum sentence, and if he had to, the king himself had a sword.
"Some nobles objected, but earlier generations tried relentlessly to impose extreme sentences on them as well. The gentle king turned into a leopard and the other races were swept away from the country. So this is what people call the kings of earlier generations. With the mad king, the Mad King, who lost his beloved queen and slaughtered all the beasts.
That's the dark part of the Gracis royal family. That's why the teacher didn't try to tell herself about it at a young age, Hershelik understood. And at the same time, feelings that seemed anger and sadness dominated Hershelik.
"Oh no..."
Hershelik can understand the suffering of losing his beloved.
Hershelik cannot forget the urge to destroy everything, the despair as if his eyes had been covered in darkness, and the feeling of her blood remaining raw and warm in his hands. The loss of your heart as if it had been decided will never be buried.
(Gene………)
I call the name of my beloved in my heart.
When I remember Gene, the first thing that came to mind was her final smile.
