a rural aristocrat, from a very young age, aspired to be an unrelated and adventurous successor, encouraging archaeology and magical training in swordsmanship. Seeing

that unconscionable effort, the parents accidentally get the Devil's Sword, which was sold for an amount within reach, and Tris presents it to them for their eighth birthday.
