He paused and looked at his team members.

"There is also a level-forty-three Innate Martial Artist named Zhao Gufeng. He used to be an underground boxer, but Wang Haidong later poached him for a hefty sum to exclusively handle his personal security.

"According to the files, Zhao Gufeng is forty-one years old. His Fist Technique is fierce, and he has abundant practical combat experience. He once killed three Martial Artists of the same level all by himself."

A photo of Zhao Gufeng appeared on the holographic screen. He was a bald, middle-aged man with a fleshy, intimidating face and a vicious glint in his eyes.

Zhou Bin stared at the photo, furrowing his brow.

"A level-forty-three Innate Martial Artist with abundant practical combat experience..." He looked at Xu Wuyi. "Captain Meng, you’re taking Fang Xiaoxiao with you. Are you confident that just the two of you can handle Zhao Gufeng and his eleven subordinates?"

Fang Xiaoxiao also looked at Xu Wuyi, her eyes filled with obvious worry. Although she was also an Innate Martial Artist at level forty-two, she specialized in assassination. Head-on combat wasn’t her strong suit. If Zhao Gufeng was really as fierce as the files claimed, she wouldn’t even be confident in a one-on-one fight, let alone against eleven others.

Xu Wuyi remained silent for a few seconds before answering, "I’m confident." His tone was calm, completely devoid of hesitation.

Zhou Bin stared at him for a moment, as if trying to gauge the truth of his words. Fang Xiaoxiao furrowed her brow, looking as though she wanted to say something but stopped herself.

Sun Jing suddenly smiled. "Since Captain Meng says it’s fine, then it’s fine. Anyway, we’re all responsible for our own targets. As long as we secure the evidence and apprehend the suspects, the rest is up to Captain Meng."

His words sounded supportive, but implicitly, he was shifting the entire responsibility of taking down Wang Haidong onto Xu Wuyi.

Zhou Bin glanced at Sun Jing but didn’t say anything.

Xu Wuyi obviously understood Sun Jing’s underlying meaning, but he didn’t mind. He simply nodded.

"Get ready. We leave in ten minutes.

"For this operation, we need to be fast, precise, and ruthless. End the battle before dawn."

The five team members stood up and replied in unison, "Understood!"

Watching his team get busy, Xu Wuyi walked to the window and looked out at the simulated sky. Today was the twenty-fourth day of the twelfth lunar month—Little New Year in the South. The Spring Festival was just a few days away.

He thought of the old house in Red River City, the wooden door adorned with old Spring Festival couplets, and his mother bustling about in the kitchen. Pulling his thoughts back to the present, he turned and walked toward his desk.

Now, he was Meng Zhishou, Captain of the Inspection Department’s Field Operations Fourth Squad. He had to lead his team to catch a group of smugglers.

Ten minutes later, the six members of the Fourth Squad split into three pairs and left the Inspection Department headquarters.

Xu Wuyi and Fang Xiaoxiao took an ordinary black sedan and drove toward the Tianhai Building in the Xingjing City East District. Fang Xiaoxiao drove while Xu Wuyi sat in the passenger seat, resting with his eyes closed.

The car left the West District and merged onto the main road of the East District. The scenery on both sides of the street began to shift, transitioning from old residential areas to a commercial district filled with towering skyscrapers.

Fang Xiaoxiao gripped the steering wheel, occasionally stealing glances at Xu Wuyi beside her. Her mind was full of questions.

This new captain wore a black-and-white mask and hadn’t revealed his true face since day one. He spoke very little and did things slowly. He had spent an entire week just reading files, only to suddenly single out the Tianhai Group as their target. Picking the target was one thing, but he even insisted on personally leading the arrest of Wang Haidong—bringing only her along.

Fang Xiaoxiao had worked in the Inspection Department for six years and had seen her fair share of captains. Some were steady, some radical, some cautious, and some reckless. But she had never seen a captain like this.

If she called him radical, he had spent a whole week just reading files. If she called him cautious, he was going to arrest Wang Haidong with only one backup, fully aware that the target had an Innate Martial Artist by his side.

Unable to hold back any longer, she asked, "Captain Meng, are you... really sure about this?"

Xu Wuyi opened his eyes and looked at her.

"Zhao Gufeng is a level-forty-three with abundant combat experience," Fang Xiaoxiao continued. "I’m level forty-two and specialize in assassination. Head-on combat isn’t my strong suit. If he goes after you while I keep his subordinates busy, how confident are you that you can win?"

Xu Wuyi thought for a moment before replying, "One hundred percent."

He reasoned that it wasn’t as if Wang Haidong could secretly hire a Grandmaster as a bodyguard.

Fang Xiaoxiao froze for a second.

One hundred percent?

"Are you sure?" she asked.

Xu Wuyi didn’t answer and simply closed his eyes again.

Fang Xiaoxiao opened her mouth to ask more, but seeing that he clearly didn’t want to talk, she swallowed her words. She decided to drop the matter and see how things would play out once they arrived.

The car continued driving forward.

The Tianhai Building was located on the most prosperous financial street in the Xingjing City East District. It was a forty-eight-story office building with a dark blue glass curtain wall that gleamed with a cold luster in the sunlight. A massive "Tianhai Group" sign stood on the roof, visible from several kilometers away.

Xu Wuyi and Fang Xiaoxiao parked their car in the lot across from the building and sat inside observing for a while.

There were two sets of glass doors at the building’s entrance, flanked by four security guards in black suits. The guards stood perfectly straight, their eyes alert. At a glance, it was obvious they weren’t ordinary doormen.

"Those are Wang Haidong’s men," Fang Xiaoxiao whispered. "They aren’t building security; they belong to his private security team."

Xu Wuyi nodded and continued observing.

Foot traffic inside the building wasn’t heavy, with only a few people entering and exiting occasionally. The four guards at the door conducted simple inquiries and registrations for everyone entering, though their attitudes remained reasonably polite.

"How are we getting in?" Fang Xiaoxiao asked. "If we just charge in, they’ll definitely notify the higher-ups. By the time we rush to the top floor, Wang Haidong will have already fled."

"We won’t charge in," Xu Wuyi said. "We’ll go through the normal channel and register at the front."

Fang Xiaoxiao furrowed her brow. "But our identities..."

"What are our identities?" Xu Wuyi looked at her. "We are from the Federation’s Inspection Department Field Operations Squad. We carry badges, enforce the law, and operate completely legally. Why should we sneak around?"

Fang Xiaoxiao was stunned for a moment before realizing he was right. They were from the Inspection Department, a federal law enforcement agency. They had official identities, legal credentials, and law enforcement authority. Why should they sneak around?

In past missions, they had been forced to sneak around to avoid drawing the attention of the big shots backing their targets. Even if the culprits accepted defeat in a given case, as long as they couldn’t be completely overthrown, there was always the possibility of them settling scores later. Of course, this kind of retaliation rarely targeted ordinary team members; it usually aimed at the captains who made the decisions. That was why the captains of the various squads had to conceal their identities.

"Let’s go." Xu Wuyi pushed open the car door and stepped out.

Fang Xiaoxiao took a deep breath and got out as well.

The two crossed the street and headed toward the main entrance of the Tianhai Building.

Seeing them approach, the four guards immediately grew vigilant. One of them took a step forward and reached out to block their path.
