Chapter 313 - 244: The Questioning Controversy
Han Feng stretched and pushed open the lab’s heavy, explosion-proof door.
The harsh sunlight made him squint. After a week without daylight, he was having a little trouble adjusting.
"Consultant!"
Zhou Ming and Xiaowang, who were standing guard at the door, rushed over to greet him as if he were their savior.
Their eyes were sunken and bloodshot; it was obvious they hadn’t slept in days.
"What’s going on? Did the sky fall?" Han Feng glanced at them.
Zhou Ming handed him a cup of warm nutrient solution, his face grim.
"Consultant, you’re finally out.
Chief Engineer Lin and her team have been working like madmen these past few days. We in logistics have been run off our feet."
Han Feng took a sip. It tasted alright.
"Thanks for your hard work.
Once the project is finished, I’ll apply for a special bonus for you both, plus a month of paid leave."
Zhou Ming and Xiaowang’s eyes lit up, their exhaustion vanishing in an instant.
"No trouble at all! It’s an honor to serve you, Consultant!"
Han Feng said no more and walked straight toward Hangar Seven.
The moment he stepped inside, a scorching wave of air—a mixture of cut metal and Spiritual Power overload—assaulted him.
The entire hangar was brightly lit, with over a hundred engineers and technicians bustling at their stations.
The sounds of commands and data reports echoed relentlessly, creating an atmosphere as frenetic as a warzone.
In the center of the hangar, the "Ghost" X-01—once just a black airframe—was now completely transformed.
The streamlined fuselage skin had been installed, its surface covered in a layer of matte, wave-absorbent coating.
The lines of the wings were more aggressive than in the original design, and the wingtips were fitted with the reverse micro-actuated control surfaces Han Feng had designed.
The fighter jet rested silently, yet it exuded the menacing pressure of a primordial beast coiled to strike.
"Han Feng! You finally decided to crawl out of there!"
A voice laced with fury called out.
Lin Xue strode over, clicking her high heels and holding a data terminal.
Her hair was a mess and her fair skin was smudged with grease, but her eyes were stunningly bright.
"The ’Stabilize the Storm’ Rune Array you requested only has a seventy-eight percent compatibility with the wing skin!
Do you know what that means? At high speeds, energy loss will increase by twelve percent!"
She slapped the data terminal against Han Feng’s chest, her tone murderous.
"And another thing! This cockpit canopy you designed! For the sake of some bullshit ’field of vision,’ its structural integrity is nine percent below military standard!
If it gets hit by a Tier Two Peak Iron-beaked Sparrow, the Pilot will be toast in there!"
Han Feng took the terminal, glanced at it, and said calmly,
"For the integrity issue, add a ’Turtle Shell’ micro-array to the inner layer of the glass.
As for compatibility, have Wei Chen lower the main Energy Circuit’s output frequency by zero-point-three standard units."
Lin Xue froze, then subconsciously began running a simulation on the terminal.
A few seconds later, she looked up, her expression a complex mix of emotions as she stared at Han Feng.
"Ninety-nine-point-seven percent... How did you calculate that?"
"I used my brain," Han Feng replied nonchalantly.
"You—!"
Lin Xue was so angry she wanted to hit him, but seeing the ’what-did-you-expect’ look on his face, she forced her anger down.
She snorted, turned on her heel, and stalked off, her voice trailing behind her.
"I’ll go make the changes! If anything else goes wrong, I’m tearing your office apart!"
Watching her stormy departure, Han Feng chuckled.
Just then, a middle-aged man with thick glasses and a slightly crazed look on his face scurried over. It was the Rune expert, Wei Chen.
"Han Feng! A god! You are my god!"
Wei Chen seized Han Feng’s hand, trembling with excitement.
"The ’Spiritual Energy Diode’!
It’s magnificent!
The design is sheer genius!
It perfectly solves the energy backflow problem when running multiple arrays in parallel!
I’ve been studying Runes for more than a decade, and I never imagined they could be used this way!"
Han Feng impassively pulled his hand free.
"And the ’Nine Palace Flying Stars’ layout you proposed! I applied it to the core Spirit Gathering Array, and the energy conversion efficiency jumped by a full seven percent!
Seven percent!"
Wei Chen was in a frenzy, gesticulating wildly.
"Zhao Yu has already installed the new engine. He’s just waiting to connect the brand-new power supply core you designed!
Consultant, hurry!
Let’s go witness a miracle!"
Han Feng followed his gesture and saw Zhao Yu with a few of his apprentices. They were gathered around an open port on the jet’s underbelly, their expressions grave.
When Zhao Yu saw Han Feng approaching, he gave a curt nod in greeting.
"Senior, what’s the situation?" Han Feng asked.
Zhao Yu pointed to a basketball-sized port, his words succinct.
"Everything’s ready. All that’s left is the main energy conduit."
"The original design can’t handle the torrent of energy from the new engine at one hundred percent power.
We’ve tried three different types of Tier Three Upper Grade conductors. They all melted within three seconds."
A grave look settled in Zhao Yu’s eyes.
"If we can’t solve this problem, this plane, even when finished, will just be an iron coffin that can’t fly.
Its heart is too strong for its veins."
The other engineers in the hangar who overheard this stopped what they were doing, and the bustling atmosphere instantly fell silent.
This was, indeed, a hurdle they had been unable to overcome.
Han Feng, however, just smiled.
"Who says they can’t?"
He walked over to a massive toolbox nearby.
Under the baffled gazes of everyone present, he retrieved three pitch-black metal ingots, each the size of a human head, from his Void Stone.
A dark luster seemed to flow across the surfaces of the metal, and the moment they appeared, the ambient temperature seemed to drop.
