High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2790 - 1011: As Expected, Familiar

Zheng Qing’s answer made Jiang Yu’s expression pause slightly.

She blinked.

"Um, that’s not what I meant to say..."

The Witch’s eyebrows were beautifully furrowed together but quickly relaxed as she smiled: "But it’s almost the same. What I meant is that in the Wizard World, the prophecies of the Diviners are the least reliable. We’ve all studied divination, and should know that while divination can show some things, it cannot show everything. Often, seeing things vaguely is more accurate than seeing them clearly."

Zheng Qing wasn’t stupid.

Once he calmed down, he easily grasped the meaning Jiang Yu wanted to convey.

"You think I shouldn’t be bothered by the Horse-Man’s divination?" He scratched his head, feeling a strong sense of deja vu with the conversation: "I thought Wizards believed that divination was a very orthodox choice."

He remembered, he had talked to Xiao Xiao about similar topics before.

"Orthodox choices aren’t necessarily the right ones."

While speaking, the two passed by a snack stall, and Jiang Yu casually picked up a tray of steamed oysters, handing them to the boy: "—Just like these oysters, they evolved for over millions of years to develop a strong shell armor, yet in the eyes of humans, they became a bowl to serve them in... Hello, how much for a tray?"

With the latter sentence, she was asking the Little Clam Girl at the oyster stall.

The Clam Girl’s shell slightly twitched, seemingly frightened by what the Witch had just said, her voice a bit weak: "One, one bronze coin, one bronze coin is enough..."

"So cheap!"

Zheng Qing praised, stuffing the slippery oyster meat into his mouth, finding the seasoning just right, slightly sweet, and couldn’t help but nod again: "—Really delicious! Not surprising it’s from your place."

This statement startled the Little Clam Girl even more, her shell tightened slightly, seemingly ready to close completely the next second. Zheng Qing felt a bit apologetic, trying to make amends, but out of the corner of his eye, he noticed Jiang Yu staring intently at something behind them.

"Someone?"

Zheng Qing’s fingers alertly hovered over his belt, ready in a blink to throw out a stack of talisman paper. Meanwhile, the Haha Beads on his wrist slightly shook, and a faint shimmer appeared on the surface of the beads.

"No... nothing."

Jiang Yu’s tone was a bit hesitant, her expression more troubled as she glanced behind one last time, shaking her head: "Maybe it’s just a gray squirrel... or maybe the water vapor from the sea bottom made me hallucinate."

Squirrel?

Zheng Qing raised an eyebrow, doubting the Witch really had seen something. After all, this was the sea, how could there be squirrels here? Plus, upon entering the Market this time, he noticeably felt that the market’s security forces had greatly strengthened; not only was the sea barrier increased to two layers but there were also more types of guards patrolling back and forth. Besides the Lobster Soldiers seen last year, there were now rare Nagas Swordsmen and Nymph Sorcerers, even at the far end of the market he could vaguely see a few huge figures quietly sitting, seemingly Sea Giants.

Without an invitation, even Wizards would find it hard to get in, let alone squirrels.

But if Jiang Yu was entirely mistaken, he didn’t believe that either. Once or twice of blurred vision is an accident, but having sensed ’seeing something’ three times in just less than half an hour, surely there’s something following them.

With this vigilance.

In the succeeding stretch, Zheng Qing paid more attention to what was behind, the nearby Witch seemingly shared the same thought, exchanging glances quietly and knowingly, continuously keeping watch behind them.

Until a corner.

Out of the corner of his eye, Zheng Qing finally saw the ’gray squirrel’ Jiang Yu mentioned — the little creature probably thought Zheng Qing had already turned past the wall’s edge, eagerly rushing to the front of a takoyaki stall, hugging a takoyaki drenched in jam.

He suddenly turned around, his expression astonished.

’Gray squirrel’ was startled by the Warlock’s abrupt turnaround, wanting to run, but realized it was still holding a takoyaki; wanting to hide, the small ball could not conceal the large size of its body.

After hesitating for a moment, it finally made up its mind, opened its mouth, took a big bite of the takoyaki, then wiped its mouth, puffed out his cheeks larger than its head, kicked its legs, swung its tail, like an arrow released from a bow, directly crashing into Zheng Qing’s chest.

Bang!

Nearly made him lose his breath.

"This is... Dong Dong?"

In his ears came Jiang Yu’s somewhat surprised voice.

Chirp chirp!

The gray squirrel—or rather Poseidon—turned its head to Jiang Yu, waving its big tail, happily responding, while the next second, Zheng Qing grabbed the skin on the back of its neck and lifted it in front of him.

"How many times have I told you not to chase and play in crowded places... Do you know you almost killed me just now!"

The Warlock reprimanded, furrowing his brows: "—And, How come you’re here? Who brought you here? Why have you become so small? Where’s your fur? Why did it turn gray?"

Despite tossing out a string of questions, even if the Little Fox didn’t answer, he could already guess the answers to these questions; while asking, he searched around, attempting to find the ’hidden puppet master.’

Upon hearing the boy’s reprimand, the Little Fox obediently raised its little claws and rubbed his chest.

The old father’s anger instantly dissipated.

Only then did the hidden puppet master appear calmly.

The bad news is, it was indeed Su Shijun.

The good news is, it was the Big Fox incarnation of Su Daxu, not her true form.

The blue Big Fox arrogantly shook her four tails, turning out from the street corner; she was accompanied by another grayish Gouzi, and on Gouzi’s back lay a black and white little cat.

Precisely the Gem Cat and the White Jade Cat.

However, both cats were currently stuffed into transparent water spheres, like hamsters in fully enclosed running wheels. Through the water screen, one could vaguely see the black cat waving its paws saying something, but Zheng Qing couldn’t hear a word.

This probably explained why he didn’t receive any warnings from the Gem Cat.

Zheng Qing kept a stern face, his gaze quickly passing over the fox, dog, and two cats, nervously scanning around. Luckily, he didn’t see the three Great Elves.

Very soon, the Big Fox halted before the young Warlock and Witch.

"Ew, really ugly."

She glanced at Zheng Qing who had eaten Gill Pouch Grass, shaking her head, her voice carrying a hint of disappointment.

Zheng Qing felt his blood pressure rise again.

"I’m here to attend the Market, what are you here for?!" He muttered in a low voice, already imagining suspending the Big Fox against a post and beating her up in his mind.

"I’m here to attend the Market too." the Big Fox replied nonchalantly.

Zheng Qing fiercely glared at his duplicate, suppressing the urge to immediately turn it back into stone.

Thwap.

The water sphere burst, Gem Cat somersaulted out, and before the boy could speak, it cried out wronged: "Did you think we wanted to come? We were kidnapped here!"
