Chapter 149 - 148: This Big Figurine is Pretty Awesome
After seeing Xu Bamboo off, Yang Shen didn’t go home. Instead, he went to the restaurant next door and got an order of fried rice to go.
Then he went into a women’s clothing store and bought a few cheap outfits.
He wasn’t sure about the size, but based on his visual assessment from last night, she was a case of "slender branches bearing heavy fruit."
Carrying his purchases, he left his residential complex and walked two blocks to a rundown little motel.
A worn-out sign, a filthy hallway, and a registration clerk—a woman in her fifties—cracking sunflower seeds while watching TV.
The motel was dirty, messy, and in disrepair. Even the little cards slipped under the doors were of a lower print quality than those elsewhere.
Its only core competitive advantage was the lack of surveillance cameras and the optional registration.
Yang Shen navigated the building with familiarity, finally stopping in front of a room on the third floor. He raised a hand to his face and pressed, and a black mask materialized over it.
It was simpler than the helmet from last night, but it still concealed his face.
He then swiped the key card and pushed the door open.
Inside the small, dilapidated room, a stunningly beautiful girl sat with perfect posture, as upright as a schoolgirl, her vacant eyes staring blankly at the wall in front of her.
A Sun Worm rested on her head, quiet and still, looking like a cute, silly hair accessory.
Yang Shen was stunned for a moment. "You... It’s been over ten hours. You haven’t moved at all?"
Long Jiu didn’t react, her gaze still fixed on the wall.
That’s right. After gaining control of Long Jiu last night, Yang Shen had been in a hurry to get back and check on Xu Bamboo’s condition. Besides, he wasn’t sure if Long Jiu still posed any hidden dangers.
So, he had found a shoddy motel with lax registration, given her the command "Don’t move," and left an Array and a Sun Worm to watch over her.
’Did this girl take my "don’t move" command literally?’
’I know she’s an Innate Martial Artist, so not moving for over ten hours is possible... but she hasn’t even used the restroom?’
’Is the enhancement from the Innate Stage that comprehensive?’
Yang Shen stood in front of Long Jiu. "I think you have at least some intelligence, but you just seem unwilling to express it. Can we talk?"
Long Jiu remained silent.
"If you won’t talk, I’ll have no choice but to treat you like a doll. Think it over."
Long Jiu: ...
Yang Shen frowned slightly, formed a Finger Technique, and issued a command through his Bee Control Technique:
[Express all of your needs and thoughts to the best of your ability.]
’It’s a bit complex. I wonder if she can understand it... an order like this would be useless on an insect, anyway.’
The next moment, however, Long Jiu finally spoke. "Abnormal... hungry... hungry... hungry..."
Yang Shen: ...
He placed the fried rice in front of Long Jiu. "Then eat."
Long Jiu opened the container of fried rice, but she didn’t eat hastily. In fact, one could even say she ate with elegance.
Her cherry-red lips parted slightly as she chewed slowly and deliberately, giving her the air of a well-bred lady from a distinguished family.
Of course, her stunning looks made her seem even more special, a true feast for the eyes.
Yang Shen didn’t disturb her, simply observing her from the side. She, in turn, showed no reaction to his sharp gaze.
Long Jiu... she gave Yang Shen a very complicated feeling.
Unless she lacked a memory system entirely, it was impossible for her not to remember... that just last night, Yang Shen had been her target.
Even if Yang Shen had some special ability to command and control her, Long Jiu should logically feel some "discontent" or "confusion."
But there was nothing...
To Yang Shen, Long Jiu seemed like a "tool."
Yes, that word was probably the most accurate description.
Yet she possessed the common sense for daily life and wasn’t in a state where she "couldn’t take care of herself."
Yang Shen used his daily Life Chart Inspection on her.
"Long Jiu: Fifth Level of Qi Cultivation (Approximate)"
"Life Chart: Undetermined"
’Someone so special... and she doesn’t even have a Life Chart.’
Yang Shen reached out and placed a hand on Long Jiu, injecting some Spiritual Power into her.
This was a rather dangerous technique. For a Cultivator, it was akin to being "felt up" with Spiritual Power, studied inch by inch.
The slightest resistance from the recipient would cause the Spiritual Power to fall into disarray, but Long Jiu had no reaction. She continued eating, completely accepting Yang Shen’s probing.
A wisp of Yang Shen’s Spiritual Power traveled through Long Jiu’s entire body, sensing her condition.
’Powerful Qi and blood... at a level between the Early Innate Stage and Middle Stage of Innate. Her Qi and Blood Value should be around 1,500.’
’Even if I’d gone all out last night, I wouldn’t have been certain of victory. This girl is truly strong.’
’Also... structurally, she’s human, not an insect. I can’t even find any different organs.’
’So the problem must be with her Divine Soul, then?’
Sure enough, Yang Shen discovered a strange "source" lingering in Long Jiu’s brain.
But his perception of it was blurry and indistinct... let alone trying to decipher it.
’It must be a technique of Witchcraft, but not a real insect. It’s a Mutated Source, just like with Martial Arts Psychosis...’
Yang Shen tried using his own Spiritual Qi to poke at the Mutated Source inside Long Jiu.
Long Jiu immediately stopped eating, her vacant eyes narrowing slightly. "Abnormal... intense pain... abnormal... intense pain..."
Although her expression remained blank, her once rosy lips began to turn pale, and sweat beaded on her cheeks.
Given her tolerance for pain, it had to be an absolutely extreme level of agony for her to express it. After all, she hadn’t even flinched when the spear tip pierced her chest last night.
Yang Shen quickly withdrew his hand, no longer provoking that abnormality. Instead, he infused a gentle stream of Spiritual Power, just as he did when nurturing his Sun Worms.
Long Jiu’s complexion improved slightly, and then she resumed eating.
’Clearly, as a powerful "weapon" of the Rebel Species, Long Jiu wouldn’t have any obvious flaws. If just anyone could command her, wouldn’t that be a joke?’
’The key was still the Cultivation Side’s Bee Control Technique. This Magic, which I once thought was utter trash, seems to be the natural bane of Witchcraft!’
’From the Sun Worms turning the tables on the Giant-mouthed Woman to counter-controlling the pest swarm when I was pursuing Wu.’
’When Witchcraft meets the Bee Control Technique, it truly has no answer.’
’A superweapon has turned into a giant collectible figurine...’
’I didn’t even have to pick the two locks the Rebel Species designed.’
’I just carried the whole package, locks and all, back with me... and gained supreme control directly.’
’I can’t imagine what kind of overwhelming dominance the orthodox Hundred Arts Beast Taming Inheritance would have over the Si Realm’s Witchcraft...’
Her very existence was more than just a matter of having an extra switch in her Divine Soul.
It was more like she had been cultivated from a young age... holding many secrets and techniques within her.
Yang Shen couldn’t even be sure if she had Cyan Blue bloodline or Si Realm bloodline.
Or even if she was a naturally born human...
Right now, Yang Shen basically had three paths before him.
First: Kill her directly to eliminate any future trouble.
The reason being he couldn’t rule out the possibility of being tracked and found.
Second path: Take Long Jiu in and make her his own.
’Who wouldn’t want to play with... ahem! I mean, who wouldn’t want her!’
’Middle Stage of Innate... at seventeen or eighteen years old. What does that even mean?!’
’If I can bring her under my command, it would be like doubling my own power and the Yang Family’s, if not more!’
’Furthermore, given Long Jiu’s characteristics, once the hidden dangers are removed, she might become completely loyal in the future... and she has a great future ahead of her.’
’As for the moral aspect...’
’Could it be any worse than her returning to the Rebel Species to be a killing machine?’
Third path: Get on a moral high horse and hand her over to Yanhua...
Morally, he’d be taking the high ground, but it would destroy his alibi for last night.
’Besides... Long Jiu has definitely killed far more people than I have... She’d probably be locked up for life.’
Yang Shen just watched as Long Jiu ate her fried rice bite by bite. The way she ate so quietly made her look like an ordinary, pretty girl.
But he wasn’t about to let his little head do the thinking for his big one.
He was weighing the pros and cons of the three paths from the perspective of a Clan Leader.
After thinking it over and over, he concluded that the benefit of having Long Jiu—someone stronger than him, a peerless genius, and potentially deeply loyal—for the family was just too great.
There was some risk now, but the benefits over the next ten years would be countless.
After a moment of consideration, Yang Shen decided to play it safe for now.
He would come here every day and, following the methods of the Bee Control Technique, use his Spiritual Power to cause an Infection throughout Long Jiu’s body.
Long Jiu’s physiological structure was human, but her control system was "Witchcraft." Theoretically, over time, it might be possible to brand her with his own Spiritual Qi mark, just like the Sun Worms.
It would require a huge amount of Spiritual Power, far more than for the Sun Worms, but luckily he had a ridiculously large Qi Sea, which should be enough.
’As for everything else... I’ll observe for a while longer before deciding.’
’If the Rebel Species comes looking for her, I’ll just kill another batch. It doesn’t matter if I can’t win; my only cost is the rent for a crappy motel room and a little money for food.’
’Long Jiu still hasn’t seen my face, which is a small insurance policy.’
As for whether this counted as imprisoning Long Jiu... Yang Shen didn’t even consider the question.
’If I really thought that way... that would be a classic case of letting appearances dictate my principles.’
’What if Long Jiu wasn’t a young girl, but a sixty-year-old man or a scruffy brute?’
’Swap the gender, max out the looks, and suddenly my morals are supposed to become noble?’
’We were trying to kill each other just yesterday! That’s called being mortal enemies.’
’Without the "remote control" that is the Bee Control Technique, only one of us would have left that bridge underpass alive.’
Even if he killed Long Jiu right now, Yang Shen wouldn’t feel any guilt. She was the one who came after him.
After she finished the fried rice, Yang Shen pushed the bag of clothes in front of her.
"Change out of your clothes."
’Can’t rule out the risk. I’ll just burn them later.’
With a blank expression, Long Jiu stood up and began to change.
"Hey, you could at least be a little modest..."
’Ah, forget it. This gives me a chance to check her wound...’
’The Innate Stage is amazing... her skin is so fair and smooth, not even a scar.’
