Hollywood Hunter

Chapter 952 - Extreme Deep Cold

Simon's early purchase of a hillside mansion in Palisades overlooking Los Angeles and the Pacific Ocean has become a staple party venue in the Westeros system.

It still is today.

It's Saturday, June 8.

As night falls, the Malibu line on the west side, and the various affluent neighborhoods on the east side, which are crossed by Sunset Boulevard, a large number of superstar celebrities and entertainment executives all begin to converge on the Palisades in the center.

The party was to celebrate the success of Danielle's summer releases, not only her own productions of Romeo and Juliet and Black Mask, but also The Mummy and Mission Impossible 2, to which the cast and studio executives were invited.

The fact that Daenerys Entertainment is celebrating both The Mummy and Mission Impossible 2 has somewhat upset Fox and Paramount, as doing so seems to amount to a public declaration of who is in charge of the two projects.

Certain things are just the way they are, though, and upset is still inevitable.

Of course, unhappiness aside, neither of the two have raised any objections, and both are going to be very enthusiastic about being part of this party together, because after all, in Hollywood these days, frankly, everyone more or less has to live their lives at the mercy of Daenerys Entertainment.

Not watching is actually fine, as long as you're capable of producing the big super-bang on your own.

No one is willing to be subservient to others, in fact, everyone has been quietly trying, but unfortunately the results are not very good, like Warner's "Vaporware". Therefore, the only thing to do at the moment is to ambush the small. After all, although Hollywood is a place of dreams, but Hollywood people are very realistic.

Just like this past box office week, from May 31 to June 6, three films related to Danielle's Entertainment directly dominated the top three on the list, and they were the only three films to reach $10 million or more in weekly box office.

First up is the much-anticipated "Mission Impossible 2," which unchallengedly topped the weekly box office in its opening week.

The new Mission Impossible 2 is widely regarded as having lost the suspense and reversal of the original Mission Impossible 2, which was recognized by both media and audiences for its action-packed style. For this new version of Mission Impossible 2, Simon has reprised the use of Pigeon Wu, but has tried to maintain the style of the opening series as much as possible in the scripting stage.

In addition, careful planning of the supporting cast during the initial development of the project has added a great deal of continuity to the series' storytelling. The success of the two major comic book cinematic universes in two time periods has demonstrated the tremendous gain in the effectiveness of such continuity in maintaining the popularity of the series.

The end result also proves the validity of these strategies.

After the premiere of Mission Impossible 2 last week, word of mouth lifted and the overall media score reached an excellent 8.2.

The box office was even more successful.

In its seventh day of operation, Mission Impossible 2 has grossed $76.15 million at the box office, making it the highest opening box office success of 1996 to date.

Such box office may not be comparable to the phenomenal DC cinematic universe that broke $100 million in its first week, but it is much better than the first film. The first "Mission Impossible", released three years ago, made only $46.35 million in its first week, and only $75.69 million in its opening two weeks, while "Mission Impossible 2" made $76.15 million in one week.

With the change in distribution model, while it is certain that "Mission Impossible 2" will not be able to get out of the kind of smooth long run that the first part eventually made $180 million at the local box office, the opening of $76.15 million and the film's local break of $200 million is hardly too much of a stretch.

On the other hand, compared to the first part's $100 million total production and distribution cost, "Mission Impossible 2" cost $90 million to produce and $40 million to spend on distribution, for a total investment of $130 million. It's expected that just over $200 million in North American territories, plus the higher than 55% average split this strong series can get from the theatrical side, will allow Mission Impossible 2 to make its return.

With that kind of success, even if it has to share the proceeds with Daenerys Entertainment, the Mission Impossible IP remains as much a staple series for Paramount as it was in the original time period.

The strength of Mission Impossible 2 unquestionably impacted all other films released during the same period.

Second on the list, The Mummy, fell 53% in its third week of release to $19.69 million, down from $41.93 million in its second week of release, due to the impact of Mission Impossible 2. In its opening three weeks, Fox and Daenerys' fantasy adventure film has grossed $125.16 million at the box office.

Although the local estimate was only around $150 million, "The Mummy" has already broken $100 million in its first two weeks in major overseas markets, and is expected to double that in its home country, with a three-week worldwide release, the film has already recouped its entire $105 million production and distribution budget and is starting to generate profits.

The Mummy was developed as a series from the beginning. The first installment opened to the public, and the series has likewise become a legitimate staple for Fox.

The dark horse, the modern version of Romeo and Juliet, followed Mission Impossible 2 and The Mummy at number three on the charts.

In the fourth week of its opening, the teen-friendly adaptation of the famous book, a modern-day romance, fell only 29% to $13.37 million when other films were generally plunged by the impact of "Mission Impossible", bringing the box office total to $89.11 million after a month of release.

It is expected to cross into the billion dollar box office club this week.

Outside of the top three, all other films in theaters during the same period have failed to break the 10 million box office mark in a single week.

Fourth place went to Disney's black comedy "Eddie," a new movie starring Whoopi Goldberg about a black woman who accidentally becomes a coach for an NBA team that opened at the same time as "Mission Impossible 2," which cost $30 million to produce and grossed only $8.01 million in its first week.

Such an opening, the local box office up to $ 20 million, black comedy apparently does not exist in the overseas market, the loss of the ending can be imagined.

Investment of $ 40 million "Ace Bitch" and the cost of $ 30 million "Eddie" consecutive failures, Disney this summer has planted two projects, the next expectation is only left on June 21, the 2D animated film "The Wacky Bell Tower" and July 4, the heavy bomb of the holiday Doklam day "Brave Island".

Needless to say, The Wacky Clock Tower is based on Notre Dame de Paris.

Island Raiders, on the other hand, is a project left over from Jerry Bruckheimer's brief collaboration with Disney.

Jerry Bruckheimer, a famous Hollywood producer, and his partner Don Simpson signed a studio contract with Disney a few years ago, but the good times were short-lived. After Vivendi bought Disney, the French strengthened their supervision of Disney in order to avoid following in the footsteps of the Japanese takeover of Columbia.

However, "Island Raiders", which was hatched during the partnership, stayed on, and instead of cutting the project, Vivendi continued to put it into production and made it a major hit in the summer of 1996.

In the original time frame, Brave Island wasn't a huge hit, but it was very successful.

This time around, the film, at least the main creative cast, has been completely different. Director Michael Bay has already been taken under the wing of Daenerys Simon, one of the leading men, Nicolas Cage, has become the lead actor of the Mission Impossible series, and even producer Jerry Bruckheimer has been left out, leaving the only other original creator, Sean Connery, as the only remaining actor.

With such changes, it's basically a different movie.

Simon didn't purposefully pry into the project's further ins and outs, and how the market performs in the future will have to wait for the Solo Day holiday in early July.

Fifth on the list is Arnold Schwarzenegger's "Vapor Secret" with $6.1 million in a single week at the box office, a film that has already given producer Warner Bros. no heartburn. The four-week cumulative box office total of $73.29 million is less than the week-long entry of "Mission Impossible 2.

After the top five, only "Black Mask" remains worth mentioning.

This year's summer another batch of small number of dark horse, after the first week surprisingly exceeded 10 million, the next week under the impact of "Mission Impossible 2", the drop is still more than half, to 51%, to collect another 5.03 million.

The film's two-week North American release cumulative box office reached $15.41 million.

15.41 million U.S. dollars, and those box office pounds compared to seemingly some can not take, but and Disney invested 30 million U.S. dollars in the first week but only 8.01 million box office "Eddie" comparison, you can understand the "Black Mask" box office performance is so rare, after all, Daenerys Entertainment for the "Black Mask" into the production and promotion of the total cost of only 5 million U.S. dollars. Not to mention the various comparisons between "Black Mask" and "The Secret Order of Vaporization" that the media has been hyping recently, at least in terms of profits, the 'little guy' from across the ocean has finished off the local Hollywood 'big guy'.

When the west coast night completely enveloped the surroundings, Kit Lee and his own Chinese agent, Jeremy Cho, arrived by car together at a mansion somewhere halfway up the Palisades. Noticing through the car window the reporters gathered around the gate of the mansion a short distance ahead, Kit Lee asked curiously, "Can they get any shots like that?"

"Sure," explained Jeremy, who was a little nervous about being part of this party, with an apparently relaxed demeanor, "If you want to be in the entertainment papers tomorrow, you can get off at the front door so they'll come up for a photo interview and each side will get what they want, for some of the smaller stars. Being able to go to a party like this is both something to show off and an opportunity to increase your exposure. So, Jett, you want to get off?"

Kit Lee quickly shook his head and smiled, "No."

So saying, the car arrived in front of the main gate, the surrounding reporters came around a little, saw that the car did not have the intention to stop, and did not pester, and backed away from the sides voluntarily, the driver showed the invitation to the gate, the car drove into the mansion, and soon stopped in front of another barrier.

This time it was much stricter.

The hotel car and driver were no longer allowed to enter, and the two were carefully checked for identity by the security guard behind the reception desk through a computer, and also passed through a security gate before being guided along the tunnel into the party scene by a welcoming waiter on another floor.

Kit Lee, who had been to quite a few Hollywood parties recently, was a little surprised by this, and Jeremy, who had noticed the other man's expression, took the initiative to explain again, but only by whispering a name: "Simon."

Jet-Lee immediately understood.

Considering that the young mogul's position of power at this point was far more than simply the owner of the Daenerys Entertainment Group, it seemed normal to do so.

The waiter took the two to the open-air cliffside party on the other side of the mansion's main villa, where many of the guests had already arrived and the party had already begun. Under the soft but not dark lights, the air was filled with vintage and artsy jazz music, which complemented the Mediterranean-style mansion.

Most of the people were obviously not willing to miss out on such a social opportunity, as groups of people gathered together to chat, dance, and enjoy the food, and not far away, there were sexy women swimming in the pool like mermaids, a standard picture of fame and fortune.

Jeremy Cho glanced over and already found a bunch of faces he wanted to get to know.

However, he also knew that Jett Lee had planned to bring his girlfriend this time, but had changed his mind to help him expand his network. The client was so righteous, he wouldn't shrug it off and just socialize on his own, after all, Jet-Lee's English skills weren't too fluent and he needed a translator.

After the two men stood outside the crowd for a brief moment, Jeremy spoke first, indicating a man and woman in conversation not far away: "Lee, that lady over there, Linda Vargas, let's go and say hello, she is Simon's royal casting director, you will understand later how powerful this woman, who seems to have little reputation outside the circle, even though the three major Hollywood agents! The head of the company is now going to be very kind to her."

Kit Lee nodded, "Jerry, you'll need to bother with who you should know later, I don't know much about this side."

"Sure, I'll try."

They said, each taking a glass of champagne from a passing waiter and heading towards a couple who were chatting.

About to come close, as the other was talking, they waited a little while they also heard roughly what the other was saying.

"Jim, as you know Simon doesn't like thick-lipped girls and he's very keen on the Soul Shifter project, I hope you're not considering her daughter because of Jon Voight."

"I promise it's nothing personal Linda, I'll send you the audition footage next week, you really should see it, I think Julie has a good chance of getting at least one Oscar nomination for the role, she's just amazing."

"No need for next week, I'll have the tape sent to me tomorrow and if she's really good, I'll submit it to Simon."

"No problem."

"One more thing, sort of my personal reminder, Jim, don't forget that Mia is the heroine of this movie, and I don't think Simon would want to see scenes where the heroine is overpowered by her female counterpart, that's not good for a movie either, I hope you can put more thought into Mia."

"Of course I understand, Linda, Mia's self-imposed gloom and wandering to the edge of collapse is also very striking, but one thing we should all understand is that outgoing performances are more likely to attract the attention of the audience as well as the Oscar judges, so ......"

"You just have to do your best, I'm sure Simon has given all of this some thought and Mia is still young enough to have plenty of time."

Taking advantage of their conversation, Jeremy took the initiative to whisper to Kit Lee again, introducing the dark-haired man talking to Linda Vargas: "James Mangold, an up-and-coming director that Denise Entertainment has been very keen on in recent years."

So saying, and sensing that the conversation had stopped, Jeremy brought Kit Lee forward as well.

Linda Vargas had apparently noticed the two and offered a smile and extended her hand in greeting to Kit Lee, "Hello Kit, nice to meet you."

Being able to occupy a special assistant position beside Simon for so many years, Linda Vargas was naturally impeccable in her treatment of people, and from the "Black Mask" project and some recent film matters that Simon had explained down, Linda Vargas could feel the importance her own boss placed on the oriental kung fu star, so she wouldn't take it lightly in the slightest.

Plus, in her opinion, Jack Seng, another Hollywood name who relied on Peak Time to make a name for himself, has recently made the almost foolish choice to work with Disney on his next film, which will likely lead to more resources for Jet Li.

After all this time of public events with Rwanda once again taking on the French government, certain things behind the scenes aren't really hard to guess at all.

The self-same boss must have had certain disputes with the French government.

In this situation, Jack Seng running off to work with Disney, which was controlled by French capital, was simply a slap in the face. Perhaps the other side felt that this was purely a business cooperation, but, where there are people, there are politics, there is a need to take a stand, and often times the butt sits crooked, even if it is completely unintentional, or even contrary to my own will, in the end it is difficult to avoid the results that should be borne.

They chatted for a while and exchanged business cards, and Linda Vargas didn't forget to help introduce a few words about James Mangold.

When a beautiful young man and woman approached, Jett Lee recognized Brad Pitt as Clark Kent, and they nodded politely to each other, both Jett Lee and James Mangold took the initiative.

Gwyneth Paltrow, Brad Pitt's waiting girlfriend, made out with Linda Vargas and also made a show of opening her arms, and was glared at, only to turn to reaching out and shaking hands with a somewhat cynical hipster look on her face, "Linda, I hear Paul's 15th birthday is next month, do you want me to bring some friends along?"

Linda Vargas didn't mean to give Pitt the benefit of the doubt and refused, "No need, I'll keep Paul away from you bad boys."

"Oh, I can't believe I'm such an image to you," Brad Pitt immediately covered his heart, did a few pounding heartbeats and held it in front of Linda, "Look, it's all broken."

Gwyneth was already looking over her shoulder hammering away at her boyfriend, but with a smile on her face.

Linda Vargas laughed at him as well, "Peter, you should be more steady."

"I'm steady the rest of the time, I only act like a little boy in front of my own sister, Linda, you make me feel like my own sister."

"Well, Pete, you know that won't work on me."

"All right, all right," Brad Pitt gave up on the charade and turned to a pitiful expression, "Linda, give me some news, will you, about that role in Changing Faces."

Linda Vargas, of course, understood why Brad Pitt had just made the gesture, and at this point shook her head without hesitation, "Pitt, be patient, I'll have some news soon."

Brad Pitt spun, "I hear Ed is also fighting for the role of Liam Neeson, Linda, tell me I'm the more competitive one, right?"

Instead of answering, Linda Vargas said, "You're both artists under ICM, and you should know better than me if Ed Limato is trying to get a role for Liam Neeson."

Seeing that Linda Vargas still wasn't letting up, Brad Pitt made a closing gesture and bowed, "Please, Linda, or can you just let me die?"

Men lacked resistance to pretty women, and women were equally as resistant to pretty men.

Having been pestered by Pete so much, certain things weren't too top secret after all, Linda Vargas finally showed a helpless expression and whispered, "Pete, you should be well aware of your disadvantage, the role of Superman is too severely tied to your screen image, so everyone is hesitant, and because of that hesitation, it's delayed, and that's good news for you, understand? "

Brad Pitt's eyes lit up, "Understood."

"Well then, have fun tonight,"

Linda Vargas said, ignoring Gwyneth Paltrow, who was obviously also trying to find out what was going on, and turned to Michael Ovitz, the head of the CAA, who was not far away.

Brad Pitt put his arm around the waist of his girlfriend who was unconsciously trying to follow him and said, "Forget it, Gwen, you're not going to get any useful information out of Linda unless she wants it."

"I was just going to ask when the casting for The Shakespeare Affair starts," Gwyneth Paltrow said, but had to stop, and instead said, "Brad, did you notice when Linda just said that 'you should be more stable' The look in her eyes yet, I don't think she's just saying that."

"What do you mean?"

Gwyneth Paltrow wasn't so unreserved in the end and could only hint, "Think about it, think about it carefully."

Brad Pitt decidedly played dumb and raised his hand to point to one spot, "Over there, Stephen Sommers, let's go over and say hello, maybe we can work together in the future."

Gwyneth Paltrow had no choice but to follow her boyfriend's force to the other side of the party.

With the success of The Mummy, Stephen Sommers was on his way to becoming one of Hollywood's top tier. In addition to Stephen Sommers, The Mummy's leading men and women, Fang Kimmer and Rachel Weisz, were also present, as well as Kate Beckinsale, who had come from the East Coast to attend the party over the weekend, with the two women holding each other's arms in a very intimate manner.

Brad Pitt came over here with his girlfriend and noticed the two burning English roses at first glance.

But only to look at.

There are some ladies in the circle that are absolutely untouchable.

Noticing the two approaching, one of them still playing the role of Superman, Brad Pitt, Stephen Sommers, with a slight glance, proceeded to introduce his new script idea to David Giller, the veteran contract producer of Daenerys Entertainment and also the creator of the Alien series, who was also a great help to Simon back then.

"Imagine, David, that a large cruise ship full of tourists is suddenly attacked and countless giant tentacles probe into the ship's hold and consume hundreds of tourists one by one, leaving only a handful of survivors. Then another group of kidnappers trying to hijack the ship appears, and the two groups meet, gradually discovering the truth of the matter, and they are forced to work together of their own accord to escape the already hellish cruise ship under attack by countless deadly tentacles. Yes, this story is similar to a maritime version of Alien, so I think it's only fitting that you're the producer. Also, I'd like Harrison Ford to play the lead role, Ford's screen presence in recent years is perfect for this style of Jedi movie. Hmm ...... By the way, the story, I'm going to call it Extreme Deep Freeze."
