How To Live In A Different World

Episode 30: Carrier Part 2

I left the inn early in the morning and came to a meeting place for a ride carriage at the South Gate.

The carriage is big with three heads and seats lined up in two rows.

"Which carriage goes to Ares?

I speak to the receptionist.

"Yeah, well, that's where that number two sign is.

"Thank you."

I give the ticket to the lady at the reception in front of the ordered carriage number two.

"Thank you for your use. I'll take care of it if I have any large luggage.

"Is my baggage of this size okay?

"If that's the case, it's okay. Keep it on the overhead shelf.

"Also, are you bringing in this spear ok?

"Keep that on the shelf, too.

Bringing in obvious weapons is unlikely in modern Japan, but in this world where demons travel, it's like bringing in OK because ultimately it's your job to defend yourself.

"Then take your seat of choice. I'm leaving now.

I'm going straight into the carriage.

Again, in this case, the rear calms down for some reason.

I sat in the back seat, put my baggage, my spear and my sword on the overhead shelf, put my shield in front of my shin, and waited for my departure.

There are three guests in total.

There are probably less than three in an eight-person carriage, but it's easy and good on the road.

"Then I'll leave for Ares.

Along with your signal, the carriage followed three other carriages behind it and the escort adventurer from the south gate, leaving for the city of Ares.

"No. The journey is exciting every time for some reason.

Even though my seat was empty, a merchant-style man moved beside me on purpose.

He talked to me in a familiar way.

"No, excuse me. My name is Stock of Merchants. Nice to meet you on the road from today to Ares for three days.

"Nice to meet you. It's called George. I'm an adventurer.

"Well, this is reliable. If anything happens, thank you.

"I think you'll be fine. Look, there's a party of eight escorts behind us. There is no curtain for me.

"Well, that's right. There are villages along the way, and demons are hard to come out along the streets.

I felt like I had no problem, so I answered.

In the early summer of the season, three horses progress in rhythm under the slightly stronger sun.

The carriage leads through a wheat field and straight through a slightly rough earth.

In the distance you can see a straight horizon.

"So, what can I do for you, Mr. Yoji?

"I'm delivering at the behest of someone I know. What about Mr. Stock?

"I am to buy a product.

"Each other, so you're working.

"That's right. How good would it be if it were a free and casual trip?

Enjoying such a conversation, the carriage arrived at the village of Lean, its first day destination.

On that day, I stayed in an inn like a private inn and slept right away because I was tired in much the same position all day.

And on the second day, around noon, I plugged into the border.

At the border, there are two checkpoints on the Albanian and Musfa sides.

Everyone gets questioned in line.

The Albanian side of the interrogation put me through so much when I showed my adventurer ID.

But when I crossed the border to the Musfa side, I was queued.

Stock lining up in front of me suddenly shut up for some reason and stared at the prosecutor in a strange way.

Finally it's our turn and Stock gets tested first.

"What is your purpose every time?

"We are buying groceries at Ares.

"You, show me that baggage.

Stock hands over the goodies and baggage to the DA.

The prosecutor takes out the contents and puts one luxurious looking box in front.

Open it,

"What is this!!

"Damn!"

That said, the stock starts running at a speed that is clearly different from its apparent age.

"Archers, take it easy... Let go!"

The prosecutor ordered the five archers who were beside him to release the bow in an instant towards the stock.

Dos, Dos, Dos.

Three bows out of five stabbed the back of the stock and collapsed on the spot with a dosa.

I couldn't keep up with how fast things unfolded, and I just stared at them.

And the archers moved the body of the stock they shot to another location, and the interrogation resumed as if nothing had happened, and my next order came.

I get cold sweats all at once and get questioned by an inspector.

"What is your purpose every time?

"Ha, ha, yes, there it is. It was a letter delivery, and this is the request form for the Adventurer Guild.

I was quite attracted to my face, and I gave him my adventurer's card, my letter and my request as much as I could.

After the prosecutor read the requisition and glanced at the letter and the Adventurer's ID,

"You seem to be in the same carriage as the other guy, do you know him?

"Yes, no, and I'm not. It's just the first time we've been together on this journey. The person was talking to a merchant... I don't know much more than that.

"Hmm."

"If you have any questions, please, please contact the Bales Adventurer Guild.

When I look up at the prosecutor's face, he looks obviously suspicious.

So,

"And please give me this if it will heal your work that uses your nerves every day.

I thought it would be dangerous if the target was rather suspicious and stayed like this, so I followed the special measures that I had prepared as a last resort.

The prosecutor took it, and when he looked at the contents, he gargled,

"That was quite clear to the adventurer. Fine. Go through."

I think I managed to come up with the right answer.

My heart is pounding right now.

And I managed to leave the Musfa side of the checkpoint.
