I Am Diagnosed as a Medical Titan

Chapter 222 - 152: Subversion

Walking beside them, Cheng Xiyao heard this and let out a chuckle.

When she laughed, Tang Pei started laughing too.

The early morning sun struck the two girls' faces.

After pulling an all-nighter, they looked anything but polished.

Tang Pei was normally a sharp, capable person, but now her nose and forehead were visibly oily, and bags had formed under her eyes.

Cheng Xiyao was even worse off. The department belle's usually perfect hairstyle was completely gone. A few strands of hair were plastered to her cheeks by sweat, her face was a little pale, and even her collar was wrinkled.

Normally, Cheng Xiyao would never have let herself be seen on campus looking like this.

But right now, walking beside Jiang He and Chen Hao, her smile was completely natural.

This sense of fulfillment, welling up from deep within her, made her radiate a kind of... vitality that even the best cosmetics couldn't replicate.

"It's no use, Haozi." Cheng Xiyao laughed, tucking a strand of hair from the corner of her mouth behind her ear. "The Boss is a genius. You can't learn what he has."

Chen Hao chuckled. "Just share a little bit with me. C'mon, who knows? Maybe I'll be Director Chen someday."

Jiang He said, "Oh, get outta here. You're a mess."

Walking at the very back of the group, Lu Xiaolin watched the undergraduates bantering up ahead, his hands in his pockets and an unconscious smile on his face.

'As a master's student, he'd heard plenty of horror stories.'

'Advisors treating students like free labor, for example, or fellow researchers scheming and backstabbing each other for first-author credit.'

'But here with Jiang He, there was none of that nonsense.'

'Everyone's goal was pure and singularly focused.'

'And Jiang He, far from being secretive, was actually cutting them all a slice of the pie.'

'Keeping up with a guy like this was exhausting. Utterly exhausting.'

'But it also earned your complete and utter respect.'

Meanwhile, Yi Xiangwan yawned and turned to the stoic Gu Yizhou beside him.

He said, "Brother Gu, let me tell you a joke. Did you know the Dwarf Kingdom once wanted to form a cavalry unit? They gave up because everything they could ride was too tall."

Gu Yizhou quickened his pace, putting some distance between himself and Yi Xiangwan.

Undeterred, Yi Xiangwan scurried to catch up. "Hey, Brother Gu, don't walk off! Not funny? Okay, I'll try another one. Who's the most obedient patient in the ICU..."

Gu Yizhou tsked. "Can you please shut up?"

"Ah, sorry, sorry..." Yi Xiangwan said.

A moment later, he piped up again. "Brother Gu? Are you still mad? I just thought of another hilarious one..."

Gu Yizhou: "..."

Jiang He straightened his collar, which Chen Hao had rumpled. Looking at the young faces around him greeting the morning sun, he was suddenly filled with a strange feeling.

'In my past life, I walked this path all alone.'

'From attending physician to department director, I had clawed my way up, all to save Teacher Shen.'

'My memories of those years were filled with little more than an endless stream of surgeries and research papers.'

'But now, on this same path, I not only have a clear goal but have also assembled the beginnings of a core team far ahead of schedule.'

'Perhaps, in the future, these people will all become pillars of the nation's medical community...'

「At Cafeteria No. 2.」

The seven of them found a large round table to sit at. Chen Hao voluntarily ran to a food stall and brought back several steamers of meat buns.

"Eat, everyone. Have as many as you want."

No one stood on ceremony.

After a full night of intense mental labor, they were all starving.

Jiang He said, "Head back and get some rest after you eat. We're already making great time. Chen Hao, take a few people to Affiliated Hospital No. 1 tomorrow and get the remaining data. The rest of you, go to the lab to perform verification."

"Okay," the group replied in unison.

Cheng Xiyao asked, "Boss, how are you planning to implement it? Are you going to give it to the ER at Affiliated Hospital No. 1 to trial?"

Jiang He shook his head.

"Asking doctors to memorize the weights of these indicators and then use a calculator to tabulate the score is unrealistic in an ER setting. They'll just see it as a hassle."

"I want to integrate this scoring model directly into the hospital's HIS (Hospital Information System)."

Upon hearing the term "HIS system," everyone was completely lost, except for Lu Xiaolin, who had a vague idea of what it was.

In 2008, hospital computerization in China was still stuck in the data-entry phase. They only had basic electronic medical records and laboratory information systems (LIS), with no intelligent alert functions whatsoever.

"I want to develop a background plugin. As soon as an ER nurse enters a patient's blood test results into the system, the plugin will automatically pull the five data points—CRP, procalcitonin, and so on—in the background. If the resulting score crosses a certain threshold, a red, full-screen alert box will immediately pop up on the monitor."

"Simply put, you don't have to think or calculate. The moment you see that red box, you know the patient is on the verge of developing severe pancreatitis and needs immediate medical intervention."

The others at the table just stared at each other, dumbfounded.

Yi Xiangwan asked, bewildered, "Boss, you know how to code?"

Gu Yizhou shot back, "Is that even a question? What can't the Boss do? So clueless."

Jiang He: "..."

He paused for a moment before saying, "Let's not deify anyone. I don't know the first thing about computers, but I've already found someone who does."

With Feng Ye on board, this early prediction model for severe acute pancreatitis (SAP) would no longer be just an academic paper gathering dust in a journal.

Once Feng Ye built the software, Jiang He would use his connections to launch a trial at the Affiliated Hospital No. 1 emergency department.

If the trial was a success, the system could then be rolled out across the province and, eventually, the entire country.

In the future, they could even apply for a patent as a medical device or software and establish their own medical technology company.

The commercial and clinical value of such an endeavor was incalculable.

However, Jiang He didn't reveal the full extent of this grand vision to the students just yet.
