I Am Not A Goblin Slayer

Chapter 862 - 430: The Anticipative Demon Lord

Gauss paused for a moment.

Not to mention that the two are still in the midst of battle; just now, this Slime suddenly vanished to launch a swift and decisive attack, only to introduce itself halfway through the fight?

Isn't there some procedural error here?

He could only attribute it to the great difference between the mindset of demons and humans. Even if their intelligence is not inferior to normal humans, it remains the same because they lack the sense of honor and shame understood by humans, and their thinking is more straightforward.

Gauss locked his eyes on the surrounding environment.

Through the previous few rounds of probing, he had already concluded that disrupting the surrounding magical environment would reveal traces of the Slime Lord hidden within.

For now, what was needed was to roughly lock onto its area, and then he could use similar means to reveal it once more.

With this in mind, he began sending out mental signals to communicate with the Slime, exchanging their names.

"My name is Gauss."

Of course, this was merely a strategy to lull the enemy.

Just like he actually didn't understand the significance of that long and unrefined name the Slime suddenly proclaimed. Perhaps it was only trying to distract him, plotting some move?

Suddenly, Gauss's sixth sense picked up something unusual in an area not far ahead.

Then the white magic wand he gripped tightly spewed forth a storm of Magic Missiles once more.

"Boom! Boom!"

The terrifying magical effect once again engulfed that area.

A silhouette faintly emerged within.

However, this time, the Magic Missiles released from Gauss's hand did not stop, firing continuously.

Once the enemy exposed that faint trace, Gauss, using his body's fragment of the Power of World Rules [Precision], temporarily anchored it.

The subsequent missiles, like a torrential storm, relentlessly pursued the air's location.

That entity, once locked onto, moved swiftly, but the missiles continually altered their trajectory, following it closely.

Although a portion of the missiles was ultimately dodged, another portion successfully hit the composite energy it merged into Natural Magic.

"Bang! Bang!"

The Slime was forced back out from the environmental magic.

Its jelly-like soft body underwent new changes, extending four energy arms covered with a hardened layer of magic on their surface. With flexible body control, it continuously batted away the inescapable missiles in all directions.

For a moment, the Magic Missiles rained like stray bullets across the battlefield.

Perhaps because this Slime's essence was already very close to a magical form, Gauss could sense its formidable manipulation of magic power, not necessarily due to outstanding skill but more accurately a kind of instinctual use of magic.

Like how most animals instinctively breathe from birth.

What is considered a brilliant use of magic for ordinary creatures might just be an innate reflex for this Slime.

This is the cruel aspect of talent; advanced techniques that some geniuses never master their entire lives are merely innate to certain creatures.

"Human, you are very powerful."

While fending off Gauss's overwhelming assault, the Slime even separated its mind to offer praise.

"Thank you."

The magic in Gauss's hand continued to grow stronger.

Utilizing the cover of the Magic Missiles, a powerful spell was completed and ready.

"Dawn!"

This was one of the only two 5th Ring spells Gauss had mastered.

Unlike Bigby's Hand, with its wide-ranging and grandiose attack, Dawn's attack range and flexibility were less impressive, yet instead, any enemy caught within it would sustain all-pervasive and stronger damage.

From start to finish, the Magic Missiles were merely a feint; Gauss did not expect a fundamental 1st Ring magic to seriously threaten the abnormal creature before him, even though in his hand its power far surpassed ordinary Magic Missiles. Against overly strong foes, it could only serve as an auxiliary means.

A brilliant golden beam descended from the sky, instantly engulfing the quickly writhing silhouette entirely.

"Buzz!"

At this moment, it was as if time itself had come to a standstill.

The blinding light began to spread from the beam in all directions, and all creatures directly exposed to this so-called baptism of holy light were simultaneously blinded.

Especially demons found the effect more severe.

The energy of "Dawn" inherently carried some countering effects against dark energy. Gauss's white magic wand magnified this effect as much as possible, and since the members of the Red Dragon Team already knew their leader wielded a blinding spell akin to a flashbang, they instinctively lowered their heads or hid behind cover as soon as the light appeared.

"Kill!"

Seizing the opportunity while many monsters were scorched and blinded, the members of the Red Dragon Team charged forward en masse, cutting down numerous Mushroom People onto the ground.

In the very center of the beam, a purifying light seemingly capable of cleansing everything continued unabated.

A vast amount of particles surged within, rendering even microorganisms helpless against it, naturally including the Slime.
