Chapter 962 - 469: Shedding the Mortal Body

Otherwise, Casters would never waste the effort and resources to acquire high-level Magic suitable for their level, only to learn and refine them from scratch. Wouldn’t it be far wiser to just keep advancing the Rings of the Spells they already mastered?

And this rule was no exception for Gauss, though his upper limit was somewhat higher than that of ordinary Casters.

Previously, his usual practice was to advance a Spell by two Rings—raising his 1st-level Spell, Magic Missile, to the 3rd Ring. This was relatively easy for him. In truth, he could even advance it to the 4th Ring, but doing so would be a bit of a stretch, even for Gauss.

It would significantly lengthen the casting time of Magic Missile. Although the Missile’s power would increase, since his Missiles were primarily used for wide-area, carpet-bombing coverage, forcing them up to the 4th Ring simply wasn’t a cost-effective approach.

But after his Talent advanced, everything changed.

The first Spell Gauss decided to test was still his most familiar one: Magic Missile.

He had actually gained some inspiration back in the Dragon’s Nest. However, the situation had been too urgent at the time, leaving him no time to polish the prototype.

On his way back, he rescued ordinary Adventurers while simultaneously researching advanced adjustments for Magic Missile.

Through repeated trials and fine-tuning, he successfully and perfectly integrated the amplifying power of the Dragon King’s lineage into the Magic Missile system.

And now, he was using the improved Magic Missile for the very first time.

His White Magic Wand lit up with a Platinum glow.

"BUZZ!"

In a moment imperceptible to anyone else, a sublime power activated.

Because the distance was too vast, hitting the target precisely required layering the Power of World Rules: [Precision]. This allowed Gauss to lock onto highly mobile enemies from an extreme distance.

"The amplification of the Dragon King’s lineage, the Power of World Rules’ Precision, combined with a touch of my Magic Talent," Gauss thought.

A brief moment later, several heavy, pale-gold spheres of light condensed in front of him. The powerful fluctuations they emitted warped the surrounding air.

"Go!" With a single thought, he fired them.

Several golden Missiles shot forth instantly, carving breathtakingly beautiful trails of light through the sky.

They were completely different from ordinary Magic Missiles. The difference wasn’t just in their color; their entire forms had undergone an earth-shattering transformation.

Behind the spheres of light trailed ethereal flares resembling Dragon Flames. They swayed nimbly, capable of tracking and locking onto enemies the moment they were released.

Right now, even though the wyverns were scattered, the homing Missiles similarly separated to pursue them individually.

The wyverns dodged agilely in the air, attempting evasive maneuvers to shake off the highly threatening golden Magic trailing them. But no matter how they twisted and turned, the damned Missiles remained doggedly on their tails, rapidly closing the distance.

"BOOM!"

In the end, despite their desperate efforts to escape, the wyverns failed to evade the golden-flamed Missiles. The Missiles instantly tore through their tough Scale Armor, plunging deep into their bodies before detonating. Massive gaping holes were blown through them in the blink of an eye. Flesh, blood, and the golden Magic Power effect exploded in midair together like a spectacular fireworks display.

Four wyverns spiraled out of the sky from miles away, crashing down like downed aircraft.

Even though they were exalted Commander-level Demons, and even though they were miles away from Gauss, from the moment they were marked by those unavoidable Magic Bullets, they could no longer escape the fate of death.

If Gauss didn’t explicitly reveal it, probably no one would ever realize that this improved Magic Missile was merely a 1st-level Spell.

Two years ago, on the afternoon when Gauss first learned Magic Missile, his vision for this Spell was finally realized in this very moment.

That tiny Missile, which originally possessed a precise range of only ten or twenty meters, had long since shed its mortal shell alongside him, sublimating to this incredible height.

The ability to freely adjust its power, the inescapable homing feature after marking a target... It was even more powerful than he had initially imagined.

Seeing Gauss exterminate their kin from such a distance so swiftly, the remaining wyverns in the clouds felt a lingering dread, making them even more hesitant to lower their altitude.

When facing other Adventurers, an altitude of several dozen meters might have been a relatively safe distance. But against that human standing atop the fortress, a radius of several miles was entirely within his precision strike zone.

However, just as Gauss thought those wyverns had been scared out of their wits, they suddenly dove down in unison, as if they had lost their minds.

"A death wish?" Gauss thought. The attack range of his Missiles still had its limits, but if they were going to willingly close the distance, he certainly didn’t mind claiming a few more flying Demons.

After all, based on his conversation with the bearded guild master, he knew it was exactly these highly mobile, high-level flying Demons that were causing massive trouble for the human defenders. Some high-level Professionals wanted to slay them, but hampered by their lack of flying capabilities, they were powerless to do so despite their best intentions.

For every one he killed, he could potentially prevent the deaths of hundreds of men.

Just as Gauss prepared to strike, he suddenly sensed a familiar aura emanating from the Monster Legion further away.

He saw a gigantic centaur, several stories tall, already charging forward. It held its spear poised in front of it, its entire body enveloped in a deep-blue halo.

It was too fast! The earth itself seemed to tremble beneath the trampling hooves of this colossal war machine. The mutant Extraordinary Centaur had joined the battle!

Seeing this, the corners of Gauss’s mouth curled up slightly. He never expected that the opponent the Green Dragon Army sent to subjugate him would be the centaur chieftain he had briefly encountered back in Black Water Town.

The centaur’s immense power had left a deep impression on him back then. At the time, completely powerless to resist, he had been forced to flee in panic. If he hadn’t used Spatial Magic to catch it off guard, escaping so smoothly wouldn’t have been nearly as easy.

He could only say that everything had worked out perfectly.

"Gauss, I need to stop that Rot-Winged Dragon Bat. I might not be able to watch your back," Guild Master Monroe’s voice transmitted over.

"I can come over and support you," another voice eagerly offered. The owner of the voice was Wenster, the commander of the Iron Guard Knight Order.

"Thanks, but if it’s just this Extraordinary Centaur, I can handle it myself," Gauss replied to the communication device hanging around his neck. At the same time, his gaze remained fixed unblinking on the charging giant centaur. Naturally, he didn’t want anyone else interfering in his battle. This centaur was already his prey.
