"She didn’t even apologize to me first." Kai stared at Barbara’s severed head. "Pathetic."

Silence stretched across the stadium once again.

Just seeing Kai beat Barbara in two hits alone was already surprising enough. It even took the crowd time to properly grasp what happened. As if that wasn’t enough, another surprise came their way.

All of them watched Barbara commit suicide in plain view.

Not killed by Kai. Not died from her wounds.

She killed herself in front of the crowd, and she did it decisively.

Kai didn’t even need to do anything.

"Professor," Kai turned to look at the announcer. "High Angel Barbara was no longer able to fight or surrender, so you should announce the winner of this second round. Only one person is standing."

For a second, the announcer faltered at what Kai said.

He turned to look at the Chancellor again, but then realized the crowd was looking at him.

An accidental death would not be made into a problem by the academy—that’s what the rule stated. Barbara’s suicide could be categorized as an accidental death, as it didn’t involve Kai’s hands at all.

So, the victory was clear.

"Victor of the second round... Leader of the Ambrosia Pact, Lesser Angel Kai!"

Nobody cheered.

Compared to watching Kai beat Barbara in two strikes, this was far more shocking.

Kai didn’t linger around.

He pulled the Blood-phantom Scimitar out from the stone ground—and sheathed it back into its new scabbard while walking back to his seat. Along the way, his eyes fixed on the next and final target.

Chester stared at Kai, but there was no arrogance in her eyes like earlier.

No confidence nor mockery that he clung to before the tournament started.

Considering that there should be Roan and Barbara who’d go against Kai before him, he was under the impression that he would win even without needing to lift a hand. Even if he needed to, he would do it easily.

Going against those two should at least have wounded Kai even further.

But that wasn’t what happened.

Kai intimidated one, and defeated the other with two strikes.

Just that alone shot a chill down his spine.

Once the second round was over, the announcer announced that there would be a long break before the final round started. A battle between Kai and Chester. Other than needing time to prepare for the final round, they also needed to dispatch and clean Barbara’s corpse.

Not to mention, the higher-ups seemed to also need time for something.

Clouds emerged and enveloped the Chancellor and the Deans in a swirl, giving them privacy.

For the audience, they were given drinks and snacks while they waited for the final round.

It would take time until the final round began, but after the shocking events that happened in the second round, the crowd was in a fever. Debates crackled through the stadium like fire through dry grass.

Hours could pass, and none of them would notice.

Too much to talk about. Too much to relive.

And that also involved the Ambrosia Pact.

"You cheered for the Lesser Angel earlier—Are you perhaps from the Ambrosia Pact group?" A female senior student looked up at Dorian behind her and asked curiously. "Are you from the Lesser Angel’s group?"

"Yes," Dorian rubbed his nose proudly. "In fact, you can say I’m the second in the group."

"Really? How is that so?"

"I worked together with the Lesser Angel in the Blood Rite, and I’m the one who realized first how strong he really was."

"You must’ve got a really good pair of eyes."

"Of course. Not only that, though I have a mutation that made me limp, I’m also comparable to him, you know."

"Wow, you’re so cool!"

A few other female students, hearing their conversation, also approached in excitement.

"What’s the Lesser Angel’s divine bloodline?"

"Can you introduce me to him? I’m about to be assigned to the Second Sky. I’m sure the Lesser Angel would want an ally when his own turn comes for deployment. And I assure you, I can be a really nice and—comforting ally."

"Is he handsome behind the mask? Do you have a photo of him?"

"You’ve gone through the Blood Rite with him? Then do you know how big he is down there?"

"Ladies, ladies..." Dorian raised both of his hands, gesturing for them to calm down as he was being overwhelmed by the questions they were throwing at him. "One at a time—please. This handsome man is not going anywhere."

"Hey," Bryan raised his hand. "I’m also a member of the Ambrosia Pact."

Like moths to a flame, some of the female students went to Bryan.

Since they couldn’t get close enough to Dorian, they decided to try their luck through Bryan.

"Can you please introduce me to him?" A female student—with blonde hair tied in a ponytail asked, clasping Bryan’s hand with both of hers. "I’ll do anything in exchange. I’m a senior, so I have access to things that you can’t."

"Erm..." Bryan stuttered, not expecting an older woman to be clasping his hand—like he was her only saviour. "How about a-a kiss on the cheek for starters?"

He expected a slap.

But instead, the female student lifted up her mask, revealing a charming face, and then kissed Bryan on her cheek as he requested. There was no hesitation in her movement. Like she really meant it when she said anything.

"Holy shit," Bryan touched his cheek in shock, and then turned to Dorian. "She actually kissed me!"

On the other hand, Matilda rolled her eyes.

It grated on her to see those two so giddy, preening under the sudden fake attention as female students flocked to them to know more about Kai. It was plainly clear that those seniors were using them as convenient sources, but they didn’t seem to care.

Just the intense attention alone was enough of a payment for being used.

One student tried her luck with Matilda.

She approached carefully, but stopped when Matilda turned to look at her sharply.

"Ask me anything about Kai, and I’ll break your mask."

"Haha... You must be joking. How can you say that to your senior?"

"Do I look like I’m joking?"

Realizing that Matilda was being serious, the senior raised her hands and backed away.

"Eugh..." Bree groaned, staring at the excited female students with clear annoyance. "Bunch of sluts who can’t even contain themselves in public. I wasn’t expecting Kai to get this popular, but I should’ve."

"You’re the one who’s talking?" Matilda crossed her arms and sneered.

"Are you calling me a slut?"

"Begging him to fuck you in the garden is slut behaviour, so yes."

"Do you even know what a slut means? I’m only doing those things for Kai, so I’m not a slut."

"At least have the decency to do it in bed, like you’re supposed to."

"Wow..." Bree reclined and scoffed in disbelief. "So, you’re one of those boring people."

"If by boring you meant someone with modesty—then yes, I am one of those people." Matilda retorted without even looking. She was heated right now, not because of Bree, but because of the annoying sight.

Bree was also feeling the same heat.

"Come on." She stood up and walked towards the staircase.

"Where are you going?" Matilda finally turned. "We can’t go out of the stadium."

"We’re not going out of the stadium. We’re going to meet with Kai. If you want to, then follow me."

"Meeting wi—wait for me!"

Meanwhile—within a secluded corridor on the other side of the stadium, far from the roar of the crowd, Chester stood with his back against the wall, arms crossed, and eyes shut. He was standing in the dark, seemingly waiting for someone.

Soon, he heard footsteps.

He opened his eyes and turned only to see Ragnar approaching.

Even with his mask on, it was clear that he was stressed.

"What happened?" Chester asked—and pushed himself off the wall to stand up properly. "I thought he was tortured for days. How come he’s still that strong? He defeated Barbara with only two strikes!"

"I don’t fucking know!" Ragnar roared back.

He scratched his head and paced back and forth, contemplating what to do.

"Barbara couldn’t even hurt him. Wait, did Hensen perhaps betray you?"

"Hensen would never betray me. I told him to beat the Lesser Angel to the limit—and he did. I checked. Not to mention, I also had watched the Lesser Angel being drained of mana, so this didn’t make any sense!"

Ragnar punched the wall hard, breaking a piece of stone.

He was exasperated at this situation.

"It’s almost like he has abilities that don’t require mana or require very little."

"That’s impossible. Legacy Skill or Legacy Imprints required mana to activate; that’s a fact."

"Do you think I don’t fucking know?!"

Ragnar pressed his hand against the wall and paused for a good moment, calculating what he needed to do next. He was under pressure from the Chancellor, and failing this would get him into big trouble.

"I’m going to stop the livestream," He mumbled. "Yes, that’s what I’m going to do."

"What?!" Chester’s face twisted—and his hand shot out, seizing Ragnar by the shoulder and wrenching him around. "You told me if I went along with your plan, if I gave up what I wanted and agreed to kill Kai cleanly, you’d make me famous. You said I’d become the face of Eventide Academy."

Ragnar slapped Chester’s arm away.

His face turned red with anger as he, too, didn’t want this to happen.

"Did you think I want to back out of this?! I’m simply being realistic here!"

"Just let the livestream continue. Professor Hera would take the blame, anyway."

"And what if you lose to him? If you lose to him, then the Lesser Angel would be the one being famous. It’ll be harder to kill him later. I promised Him to try to take out the Lesser Angel, but if He knew that we only made it worse, He’ll kill us!"

A flash of fear crossed Ragnar’s face.

Better for him to stop the livestream and keep the damage to a minimum.

"It’s already too late. He’s already famous." Chester’s voice was grim—as he gestured toward the stadium beyond the empty corridor, where the crowd still buzzed with Kai’s name. "Can’t you see what happened out there? The students are cheering for him. The only way to reverse this is for me to beat him in the final."

"Fine!" Ragnar surged forward—slamming Chester against the wall. A finger drove into his chest, hard enough to bruise. "I’ll keep the livestream running, but you make sure you win in the final round. You make sure to fucking defeat him in the most humiliating way. Do you understand me?!"

"Yes." Chester nodded. "I will do exactly that."
