I am the Only Son of Nyx

Chapter 335: Predicament in the House of Night (1)

"Archangel Morriva..." Bree mumbled.

Of course, she recalled the person standing beside the Demon Man back at the orientation.

It was hard not to remember her, as she was also the one who called Kai forward.

"So, you’re saying that you had been searching for a way to meet her—because you think she might know about that Demon?" She asked and then paused for a second. "How are you even going to make her talk?"

"I don’t know yet," Kai exhaled lightly. "But I would certainly find a way."

"And what about this Spissos?" Matilda intervened. "Are you fine going against him?"

"It’s not like I need to kill him, so it didn’t matter whether he was a good person or not. Though it would make things much easier if he wasn’t."

"He’s probably not a good person. He also got the Blooded Vanguard title."

Kai nodded his head.

For someone to get the Blooded Vanguard title from the Blood Rite, they must be the one who has the highest kill count. Naturally, there was a big chance that Spissos is not a good person, which was a good thing.

Save Kai from feeling guilty for what he was about to do.

Just then, he caught sight of Bree, who seemed to be in deep contemplation.

"What’s wrong, Bree?" He asked.

"Hm? Oh—It’s nothing." She said, but that only made Kai’s eyes narrow even further. "I’m thinking about what she said earlier. Since we’re going to be together anyway, also having the Demigod as my sponsor wouldn’t be a bad idea."

"No." Kai immediately answered firmly. "Don’t do that—he’s a really bad person. Let me be the one who was tied to him—don’t get involved. If both of you also worked under Him, then He could make a move against us."

"I agree," Matilda nodded. "It’s not like there was only one sponsor."

"Okie~" Bree shrugged. "Don’t mind what I said."

Once the meeting with Julialla was done, Kai and the others made their way back to the academy.

Feeny was in her cage, resting after the ordeal, as she had also been hit multiple times, so they would need to walk the rest of the way. The snow had thickened—since they’d entered the Barbarian Hold, far thicker.

A harsh, biting cold that clung to their clothes and stung their skin.

During nighttime, the snow was harsher for some reason.

It was hazardous; the kind that could easily make an Angel lose their way and even lead to death.

But Bree’s ability helped them through without much problem.

Her membranes shielded them from the worst of the snow-wind; they moved in a really tight formation and followed the red orbs drifting above. These orbs were beacons prepared by the academy to help Angels find their way home.

Night had long fallen by the time they reached the academy grounds.

As expected, the streets were empty save for the Guard Angels.

All of them roamed in quiet patrols—their eyes sharp despite the late hour and the snow.

Every one of them saluted at the sight of Kai, and he returned the gesture with a small nod.

At this point, he was already used to this kind of treatment.

Soon, they arrived at the house—and could instantly feel the warmth coming from the inside. As the Red Prince, his Special Accolade also contained comfort items. One being a special type of wood that spread heat better throughout the entire house.

Kai rang the doorbell, and almost immediately, the sound of scurrying footsteps echoed.

And then, the lock clicked before the door swung open.

Talitha stood in the doorway, bundled in thick layers of clothing that would easily make other servants die from jealousy. So many—that she looked even smaller than normal, like a small, round bear.

She smiled and stepped aside. "Good evening. How was your day?"

"Really tiring." Bree walked past after melting the snow from her clothes with her mana. "I’m going to my room."

"As usual," Matilda shrugged and also went inside.

Both soaked in the warmth of the house that wrapped around them like a blanket. Both went straight for the stairs—wanting nothing more than to wash away the sticky residue of shifting temperatures and the grime of battle.

Kai stepped inside, savouring the warmth in the air as Talitha closed the door behind him.

She then helped him take off his uniform. "How about you, Master Kai?"

"I’d say a successful day. Fruitful.’

"That’s good to hear."

"Right." Kai was about to go to his room, but stopped. "Is there a package?"

"Yes—there is." Talitha scurried towards the dining table and then brought a small box. "Here you go. I haven’t opened it, but you could still verify whether there was something missing. Not that I hope there was something missing."

"What are you saying?" Kai chuckled. "Do you think I’d suspect you of stealing something?"

"J-Just saying..."

"You’re thinking too much."

Kai went to sit down at the dining table and placed the box down. Behind—Talitha followed as she was curious about what was inside the box. Other than the congratulatory gift that was sent for the Red Prince back then, there has never been another package.

So, it was natural for her to be curious.

He opened the box and saw a set of vials nearly placed in two rows against a white cushion.

"What are those vials, Master Kai?" Talitha asked.

"Nectar of Springs," He mumbled. "Finally... I was getting tired of waiting."

Kai stared at the few familiar vials containing a bright blue liquid that glowed faintly. He was waiting for these vials—for more than a week already. Essential items in order for them to be fully prepared to enter the Second Sky.

Each one would strengthen a Supernal’s Halo, enhancing its defense against corruption.

It would also amplify the Halo’s power.

Kai and the others had no problem with gathering the Null Gems required to make six Nectar of Springs. In fact, they already gathered enough in the first three weeks of Kai becoming the Red Prince.

But the Blue Heart required to make six took a long time to gather.

He was told that one of twenty Star Beasts would have a Blue Heart, yet reality didn’t seem to agree with that ratio. Kai and the others had been unlucky, and it had taken months to gather the required amount to make six.

Regardless, the Nectar of Springs is here now.

Kai took three vials from the box, and then handed them to Talitha.

"Can you bring these and give them to Matilda and Bree upstairs? Give them one each."

"Of course, Master Kai. But what about the third one?"

"Bring the third to your sister, and don’t return too quickly. I’m not in a mood for eating."

"A-Are you sure?" Talitha stuttered, but she was clearly happy—that Kai allowed her to meet with her sister and chat. "I already asked the cafeteria for some ingredients, and I could cook them right now before leaving."

"It’s alright," Kai smiled and shooed her away. "Now go before I change my mind."

Not even sparing a moment to answer, she quickly rushed away.

It was as if she really believed Kai would change his mind, which made him chuckle.

Kai looked down at the remaining vials that were reserved for him, Dorian, and Bryan.

He could’ve told Talitha to stop by their rooms to hand these vials over to them, but Kai decided that he would do it himself later. Perhaps tomorrow. It would be a good time to talk about Bryan’s situation, too.

He could’ve told Talitha to stop by their rooms and hand over the vials for him.

But Kai decided to deliver them himself—later. Perhaps tomorrow. He was too tired from the earlier fighting, and since Abigail’s mana was low, the bruises across his body still remained, and every movement of his body was accompanied by pain.

More importantly, he would have a talk with them tomorrow.

A talk about Bryan’s situation.

It was a good opportunity to talk about that after giving the vials.

Better for them to hear it directly from him.

"Let’s think about what I need to say tomorrow." Kai closed the box and brought it with him to the master bedroom. He placed it on the bedside table—and then headed for the shower to get rid of the stickiness.

As the warm water burst from the showerhead and drenched his naked body, his mind trailed.

He raised his gaze and stared at his own faint reflection on the shower box.

"I should be able to finish it soon..." He shook his head. "No—I have to finish it today."

Kai didn’t forget about the Ending of Impersonation.

Fifty thousand usable exp was needed to locate and enter the Ending of Impersonation’s lair, which would then allow him to make that creature pay for what it did to Perion. And it didn’t take long for him to gather that much.

By the end of the week after becoming the Red Prince, he already got it.

Killing and feeding the Giants in the Lair of the Small made it easy to amass that much.

Kai also was not going to wait long to exact his revenge, as not long after the first assault— the Ending of Impersonation came back again for a second round when he wasn’t around. Of course, Kaelmorath was there.

But even then, the Ending of Impersonation prevailed.

Not because it was far stronger than Kaelmorath, but because it was faster and trickier.

It could infiltrate the mind and change appearances, allowing it to gain the advantage.

In Kaelmorath’s case, it assumed Princess Diarbara’s appearance.

Even its voice and personality could match the real princess, making it a troublesome enemy.

So naturally, Kaelmorath lost, but he managed to bring Perion to Noxian’s domain.

However, things didn’t exactly go as planned.

That night, after gathering enough usable exp, Kai returned to the House of Night to pinpoint the damned Ending of Impersonation. He wasn’t reckless enough to walk into its domain blindly, not without a plan.

So, he planned to scout and then return before that creature noticed.

But the cost for finding the Ending of Impersonation somehow swelled, doubling to be exact.

Kai was surprised by this, so he asked Noxian, and the answer was devastating—the Ending of Impersonation had rallied other Nightborns to go against him—which was how the cost to find it increased.

After the Night Elevation, many Nightborns on the first floor didn’t like Kai at all.

And the Ending of Impersonation made use of that to create an alliance.

Even then, Kai was still the First Son of the Primordial Night.

Nothing that exists within the House of Night is out of his reach, and he had found a way.

Now, it was time for him to go on the offensive.

"I’m coming for you."
