Chapter 40: Ch 40-The Beast Tide
Fifteen days later, Mo Yuan was sitting quietly in his room.
He had returned to Dong Hai Base a day after leaving the expedition area. The expedition had been very profitable for him. After receiving his share of the rewards and selling some of the beast materials he had collected, he had earned around 50 million yuan.
He used some of the money to buy a new Primordial Qi-powered truck. His previous truck was useful, but after spending so much time in the wilderness, Mo Yuan realized that he needed bigger storage space, if he wanted to transport large amounts of beast materials.
The rest of the money was spent on Intermediate Beast Blood.
As for Advanced Beast Blood, Mo Yuan couldn’t even find it in the Martial Hall.
There were barely any Origin Sea Realm cultivators in Dong Hai Base who could hunt advanced-level beasts. Even if advanced-level beast materials appeared in the market, they would be bought almost immediately by the powerful cultivators.
The demand was extremely high, while the supply was painfully low.
Mo Yuan didn’t have much choice. Fortunately, he didn’t need to depend entirely on the market anymore.
During his return journey, he had hunted several advance level beasts and brought their blood back with him. With the amount he had stored, he had enough Beast Blood to support his cultivation for roughly a month.
After that?
He could simply go back into the wilderness and hunt more.
For Mo Yuan, this was almost a perfect cycle.
He could obtain Beast Blood for cultivation while improving his combat experience at the same time.
"Why spend millions buying Beast Blood when I can just hunt it myself?"
Mo Yuan had come to this conclusion. Of course, this only worked because his current strength was far beyond ordinary cultivators.
For an ordinary cultivator, hunting beasts for blood was a dangerous job. For Mo Yuan, it had almost become another way of farming resources. After returning home and meeting Mo Ran, Mo Yuan immediately started cultivating.
One month passed quickly.
Inside Mo Yuan’s training chamber, he slowly opened his eyes. A powerful aura spread from his body before gradually settling down.
Mo Yuan clenched his fist and felt the tremendous strength inside his body.
"After exhausting all my Beast Blood, I’ve finally reached 59,000 jin of strength."
A satisfied smile appeared on his face.
"With my Strength Talent giving me a tenfold boost, that’s 590,000 jin."
He then circulated Primordial Qi.
Boom!
His strength instantly doubled.
"1.18 million jin!"
Mo Yuan couldn’t help but laugh.
"This is getting ridiculous."
He was currently still in the Origin Core Realm, yet his strength had already surpassed the one million jin.
An ordinary Peak Origin Sea Realm cultivator could have around one million jin of base strength. After using Primordial Qi, they could reach approximately two million jin.
Mo Yuan was still below that level, but his actual combat power wasn’t determined by strength alone. He had his Peak Grade Strength Talent, Ultimate Grade Regeneration Talent, Superior Grade Saber Talent, Shadow Talent, and Speed Talent.
His regeneration ability alone had greatly increased his survivability.
"Right now, I am invincible in Origin Core realm."
Mo Yuan nodded to himself.
"But I’m still not invincible in Origin Sea Realm."
Mo Yuan rubbed his chin.
"I’m lacking a little."
He wasn’t discouraged. Instead, he started thinking about what he should improve next.
"My Strength Talent is already Peak Grade. My Regeneration Talent is Ultimate Grade, and my Saber Talent is Superior Grade."
He paused.
"Speed Talent."
"That’s the biggest weakness I have right now."
His Speed Talent was still only Standard Grade.
Although his physical strength was terrifying, speed was equally important in battle. If he encountered an enemy stronger than him, being able to escape quickly could save his life. Besides, with his Shadow Talent, improving his speed would make his fighting style even more troublesome.
"Next, I’ll look for a better Speed Talent."
Mo Yuan made up his mind.
He also checked his saber cultivation. His understanding of saber momentum had reached the Perfection Realm.
He was only one step away from the next level.
"Saber Intent..."
Mo Yuan murmured.
Once he reached Saber Intent, his saber techniques would become even more powerful. As for his Steel Grade Saber Skill, Phantom Slash, he had already cultivated it to the Perfection Realm as well.
Unfortunately, reaching Saber Intent wasn’t something that could be rushed.
He could only slowly comprehend it.
"I’ll take my time."
Mo Yuan stood up and stretched, he had been cultivating for a long time. It was time to relax a little.
He walked out of his room and saw Mo Ran.
"Good morning."
"Good morning, Brother."
Mo Ran smiled.
After having breakfast together, Mo Yuan prepared to leave.
Today, he had an appointment with the Black Fang Team. Mo Shan had promised to treat him to a meal after they returned from the expedition.
Mo Yuan had almost forgotten about it.
"I wonder what that guy is planning to feed me."
Mo Yuan smiled as he left the villa.
However, the moment he stepped outside, his expression changed. Something was strange. There were far more people on the streets than usual.
People were carrying bags and luggage, while some were pulling carts filled with their belongings. Some families were even carrying children as they hurried through the streets.
Mo Yuan stopped and looked around.
"What happened?"
He had been cultivating inside his villa for the past month, so he hadn’t paid much attention to what was happening outside.
Dong Hai Base normally wasn’t this crowded.
"There are way too many people today."
Mo Yuan frowned slightly.
He didn’t think much about it for now and continued toward the restaurant. After arriving, he immediately saw the familiar faces of the Black Fang Team.
Mo Shan, Ha Fei, Yin Yue, and Mu Chen were already sitting at a table.
The moment Mo Yuan entered, Mo Shan waved at him.
"Brother Mo Yuan, over here!"
Mo Yuan walked over.
"You guys arrived pretty early."
Ha Fei laughed.
"Of course. Today Brother Mo Shan is paying. If we came late, he might suddenly remember that he forgot his wallet."
Mo Shan’s face darkened.
"Hey, don’t ruin my reputation before the food even arrives."
Yin Yue covered her mouth and laughed.
"Your reputation?"
Mu Chen immediately joined in.
"Do you even have one?"
The entire table burst into laughter.
Mo Yuan also smiled and sat down. They chatted for a while before Mo Yuan finally remembered what he had seen outside.
He looked toward the restaurant entrance.
"By the way, why are there so many people outside today?"
The moment Mo Yuan asked this, the atmosphere at the table suddenly became quiet.
Mo Shan’s expression changed, the smile on his face disappeared.
"You haven’t heard?"
"Heard what?"
Mo Yuan looked at him.
Mo Shan took a deep breath.
"Something happened because of our expedition."
Mo Yuan’s expression became serious.
"What happened?"
"The beast tide."
Mo Shan’s voice was low.
"After our expedition started clearing those areas, the beasts in the surrounding regions became extremely aggressive."
Mo Yuan frowned.
"How bad?"
Mo Shan looked at him seriously.
"Three medium-sized bases have already been destroyed."
Mo Yuan’s expression froze.
"Three?"
"Yes."
Ha Fei, who had been joking moments ago, also looked serious.
"Those weren’t weak bases either. They had Origin Soul Realm cultivators guarding them."
Mo Shan continued.
"Even Origin Soul Realm cultivators died."
Mo Yuan’s eyes narrowed.
Origin Soul Realm. That was an entire realm above Origin Sea Realm.
If even Origin Soul Realm cultivators had died, then the situation was far worse than he had imagined.
"The beasts went completely crazy," Mo Shan said. "They formed a massive beast tide and attacked everything in their path."
"What about the large bases?" Mo Yuan asked.
"One of the large bases finally sent an Origin Lord Realm cultivator."
Mo Yuan’s expression changed slightly.
An Origin Lord Realm cultivator was an existence far beyond what Dong Hai Base could deal with.
"That cultivator finally stopped the beast tide from spreading further," Mo Shan explained. "But the damage was already done. Those three bases were basically finished."
Mo Yuan looked outside again. Now he understood why the streets were packed.
"The people outside..."
"They’re refugees from those medium-sized bases," Yin Yue said quietly.
"Many of them are migrating toward safer bases. Dong Hai is still relatively far from the main beast tide, so some people came here hoping to find shelter."
Mo Yuan remained silent. Then he asked the question that mattered most.
"Could the beast tide reach Dong Hai?"
Mo Shan didn’t immediately answer.
After a few seconds, he said,
"There is a chance."
The restaurant suddenly felt much quieter to Mo Yuan. He looked through the window at the people rushing through the streets.
A month ago, Dong Hai Base had been peaceful. Now, countless people were arriving because they were running from beasts.
"So that’s what happened while I was cultivating."
The Black Fang Team members nodded.
Mo Shan sighed.
"We thought we were just helping Dong Hai expand its territory."
"Who would’ve thought we’d end up making the beasts angry enough to start a war?"
Ha Fei gave a bitter smile.
"And somehow, Brother Mo Yuan missed all of it because he was busy cultivating."
Mo Yuan looked at him.
"Is that supposed to be an insult?"
Ha Fei immediately shook his head.
"No, no. I’m praising you."
"Good."
Mo Yuan picked up his chopsticks.
"Then let’s eat before the beast tide comes."
Everyone stared at him.
Mo Yuan paused.
"What?"
Mo Shan couldn’t help laughing.
"Brother Mo Yuan, your priorities are really strange."
Mo Yuan smiled faintly.
"Food is innocent. The beasts aren’t."
But despite the joke, his mind was already thinking about the situation outside. If the beast tide really reached Dong Hai Base, things would become extremely dangerous.
