Chapter 7: Ch 7- Participating in the Trial
"Student Mo Yuan, do you really want to sign up for the trial? Although you only need to reach the Origin Seed Realm to participate, it’s best not to join unless you have at least 500 jin of strength. Otherwise, it’s very easy to die during the trial."
Teacher Lin Yun from the Fourth Academy looked at Mo Yuan and tried to persuade him.
He had seen many students like Mo Yuan before. They all believed they were lucky enough to obtain Beast blood. But they never stopped to think that even if there were no Beasts in the small wilderness area, the stronger feral beasts alone were enough to kill most Origin Seed cultivators.
A student who had just entered the Origin Seed Realm was no different from an ant in front of those feral beasts unless they had enough people or powerful weapons.
"Teacher, I’ve already formed a team. With enough people, I should have a good chance of getting something."
Mo Yuan said that on purpose, unless this teacher would keep yapping.
"Alright then. It’s your own choice. But if you sign up, you’ll have to sign a life and death agreement. Once you sign it, even if you die in the small wilderness area, the Fourth Academy won’t provide any compensation."
Teacher Lin Yun reminded him one last time.
"I understand."
Mo Yuan calmly signed the agreement.
"Come to Training Ground Number Five before eight o’clock in the morning ten days from now. A teacher will take you there."
"Yes, Teacher."
After successfully signing up, Mo Yuan let out a sigh of relief.
He didn’t want to waste the next ten days.
Although he was confident in his own strength, he was still too weak.
He needed to make some preparations. For example, buying weapons and equipment.
In this era, there were no restrictions on carrying weapons. Anyone could carry them.
Weapons were also divided into different grades.
Weapons made from ordinary steel were called ordinary weapons.
Weapons forged using Beasts or some special materials that can be used to channel Primordial Qi and were known as Primordial Weapons.
Mo Yuan couldn’t afford a Primordial Weapon.
Besides, there was no need for one yet.
A low grade Primordial Weapon wasn’t much better than an ordinary weapon. The only difference was that it could channel Primordial Qi.
After arriving at a weapon shop, Mo Yuan bought a refined iron saber along with a bow and several arrows.
The weapons cost him five thousand yuan.
That was almost an entire year’s worth of living expenses.
He originally had twenty thousand yuan saved by his parents.
Now only fifteen thousand remained.
Still, buying these weapons was necessary.
In the blink of an eye, ten days passed.
Mo Yuan didn’t tell his younger sister, Mo Ran, about the trial.
He simply told her that the academy had arranged a three day activity and that he would be back afterward.
Mo Ran didn’t think much about it.
If she had known he was entering the wilderness, she definitely wouldn’t have agreed.
...
Fourth Academy.
Training Ground Number Five.
When Mo Yuan arrived, nearly one hundred students were already there.
Clearly, that wasn’t everyone.
He estimated that around one hundred and eighty students would be participating in the trial.
"It looks like the attraction of Beast blood is just too great."
"For students with poor talent, it’s their only chance."
Mo Yuan thought to himself.
"Mo Yuan, I thought you weren’t coming."
A familiar voice called out.
It was Zhang Wei.
Mo Yuan glanced at him.
"I never said I wasn’t coming."
"I just didn’t want to form a team."
"You found a stronger team?"
Zhang Wei asked in surprise.
Mo Yuan simply smiled and said nothing.
Seeing his reaction, Zhang Wei became even more convinced. He assumed Mo Yuan had found another team.
Mo Yuan didn’t bother explaining. The misunderstanding actually worked in his favour.
About half an hour later, all the students had arrived. There were around one hundred and eighty five in total. Almost all of them had Secondary Grade Cultivation Talent.
Most were around twenty years old. Students as young as Mo Yuan were very rare. After all, younger cultivators usually meant lower strength.
Many of the students standing here probably wouldn’t make it back alive. But in this world, without strength, death could come at any time.
In this era, strength was everything.
"Since everyone’s here, get on the buses."
One of the teachers shouted.
Soon, several large buses drove onto the training ground. They looked very similar to the buses from before the apocalypse.
Many students stared at them with curiosity.
It was their first time seeing one in person. Before today, they had only seen pictures in textbooks.
"Teacher, hasn’t the world changed too much? I thought cars from before the apocalypse couldn’t be used anymore."
One student asked.
The teacher smiled.
"This isn’t an old bus."
"It’s a newly developed vehicle powered by Primordial Qi."
"The technology was traded from one of the Great Bases."
"It was only introduced recently."
"Right now, only Origin Vessel cultivators can afford to own vehicles."
"But in the future, you’ll probably see them everywhere."
"So they’re powered by Primordial Qi."
The students finally understood. Some had heard of Primordial Qi technology before. They just didn’t expect Dong Hai Base to have it already.
Everyone boarded the buses. Soon, they left Dong Hai Base and headed toward the wilderness.
About an hour later, the buses passed through the city gates.
The moment they entered the wilderness, many students became nervous.
After all, this was the territory of the Beasts.
If one appeared, Origin Seed cultivators wouldn’t stand a chance.
The lead teacher noticed their expressions and smiled.
"Don’t worry."
"Not long ago, the experts of Dong Hai Base cleared this area."
"There aren’t any Beasts within three miles."
"Our destination is only one mile ahead."
Hearing that, everyone relaxed.
Besides, more than ten teachers were escorting them.
Every teacher had reached the Origin Vessel Realm.
Their safety was guaranteed.
Not long afterward, a valley appeared ahead.
"This valley is our destination."
The teacher pointed forward. Many buses were already parked outside the valley. They belonged to the other academies.
"It’s the students from the Fourth Academy."
"Haha, even that trash academy came?"
"They’re just here to get wiped out."
"Watch how I cook them"
"Our First Academy students have already fought feral beasts."
"Some teachers even let us spar against weaker Beasts."
"Those Fourth Academy students probably haven’t even seen blood before."
"They’ll probably cry the moment they see a feral beast."
"Don’t laugh too much."
"The Fourth Academy’s principal is an important figure in Dong Hai Base."
"If we offend him, we’ll be the ones in trouble."
The students making fun of them were all from the First Academy.
As for the students from the other academies, they weren’t much stronger than the Fourth Academy themselves.
They had no reason to laugh.
"Damn."
"They’re way too arrogant."
Many Fourth Academy students gritted their teeth.
Still, none of them dared to argue. Everyone knew the difference in strength between the two academies.
After getting off the bus, Mo Yuan quietly looked toward the students from the First Academy.
"Every student there should have at least Standard Grade Talent."
"There might even be students with Superior Grade Talent."
"My Copy and Paste Talent is finally ready again."
"Hopefully, this time I can copy an even better talent."
