Chapter 344: The Call of the Hollow King
Hades descended.
Not with his feet — the throne room floor had long since become irrelevant. He sank into himself, into the endless ocean of souls trapped within his divine core. The realm around him warped in sympathy. The palace twisted like a living thing, corridors lengthening into impossible labyrinths, walls bleeding memories that dripped onto the stone as liquid shadows.
Deeper.
The command came from within. Whether his own will or Persephone’s faint pull, he no longer knew.
Each layer he pierced brought new torment.
First came the recent dead — those lost in the final war. Warriors still clutching broken swords, mothers cradling children who would never grow old, angels whose wings had been torn away in the last desperate stands. Their voices were sharp, accusatory.
You did this.
You took everything.
Hades pushed through them, his shadow-form fracturing and reforming with every step downward. Pain became a constant companion, a roaring fire in the center of his being. But beneath the agony, her voice grew stronger.
Hades... I see you.
A flicker of warmth in the cold. Spring green threading through winter black. He reached for it.
The next layer was older. Titans. Primordials. Beings whose names had been erased from even the oldest myths. Their rage was geological — slow, crushing, inevitable. One fragment, a sliver of ancient Kronos himself, wrapped around Hades’ will like chains of time.
You are no different from me, boy.
Hades laughed through the pain, the sound echoing into eternity. "I never claimed to be."
He tore the fragment apart and kept sinking.
The Underworld above — what little remained of its coherence — convulsed. Rivers reversed their flow. Cerberus howled until his throats bled. New entities clawed their way out of the cracks: twisted amalgamations of soul and shadow, born from the pressure of too many lives compressed into one god. They roamed the Asphodel in packs, whispering forgotten names and dragging the wandering dead into new, nightmarish afterlives.
In Olympus, Zeus felt it like a blade pressed against his spine.
He stood in the central hall, the rebuilt heart of the new order. Golden light streamed through cracks in the ceiling where reality still hadn’t fully healed. Athena’s maps floated before them — glowing diagrams showing the bleeding boundaries between realms. Hera stood at his right, her presence a steady anchor. Metis lingered in the shadows, eyes distant as she calculated probabilities no mortal mind could grasp.
"It’s accelerating," Athena said, voice tight. "The Underworld is no longer contained. If Hades loses control completely—"
"He won’t," Zeus cut in. But the words felt hollow even to him.
Hera placed a hand on his arm. "You know that’s a lie, my husband. Your brother is breaking. The question is whether we let him break alone."
Zeus closed his eyes. Thunder rumbled in the distance — not from the sky, but from somewhere far below. "If I go down there now, the Remnant will strike at the surface. Metatron is waiting for any sign of weakness. Michael is barely holding the loyal angels together. The mortals..."
He didn’t finish. They all knew. Earth was waking up. Cults forming. Governments crumbling. Children born with sparks of divine power in their blood. The Age After God was not kind to those caught between.
Metis finally spoke. "The Hollow King must be stabilized. Not saved — stabilized. Reach him. Anchor him. But do not descend fully. Not yet."
Zeus nodded once. Decision made.
Back in the depths, Hades had reached the core.
Here, there were no voices. Only pressure. The weight of every soul that had ever died since the beginning of things. It pressed on him from all sides, trying to flatten him into nothing but a vessel — a new Citadel made of flesh and regret.
And in the center of that crushing abyss, a single point of light.
Persephone.
Not whole. Not free. But there. A fragment of spring trapped in eternal winter. Her eyes met his across the sea of the dead.
You came.
The relief in her voice nearly undid him.
Hades reached out with everything he had. Shadows twisted into hands. Souls parted like water before a breaking dam. For one beautiful, terrible moment, their fingers almost touched.
Power surged through him — raw, unchecked, alive. The Underworld above bloomed with impossible life. Black flowers exploded into fields of color. Rivers ran clear. The dead, for a single heartbeat, remembered joy.
Then the backlash hit.
Hades screamed as trillions of souls rebelled at once. The fragment of Persephone was ripped away, sinking deeper. His form shattered completely. For several long seconds, there was no Hades — only a raging storm of shadow and grief wearing a crown of bones.
When he reformed, he was different.
Taller. Sharper. Eyes like twin voids that had swallowed stars. Cracks of glowing green — Persephone’s essence — ran through his chest like veins of new life in dead earth.
But the cost...
A massive breach had torn open between the Underworld and the mortal realm. Souls poured through in a torrent. Not peacefully. Not judged. Just raw, confused, angry energy flooding into a world already teetering on the edge.
Hades looked up through the layers of his domain, toward the distant light of Olympus.
"Brother..." he whispered, voice layered with a thousand others. "Come. Before there is nothing left of me to save."
In Olympus, Zeus’ head snapped up. Lightning crackled across his skin.
"He’s calling me."
Hera’s grip tightened. "Then answer."
Zeus looked at each of them — Athena, Metis, his queen — and for the first time since taking the center, he looked truly afraid.
Not of Hades.
Of what he might have to become to save him.

I Will try in the future to do more better when I have free time.
Now I’m back and will be active and will try to make the novel now interesting to the best of my ability.
