Chapter 555: I Can Still Live Without My Eyes
"Don’t worry about me. These birds can’t hold them for long. You need to run," Ye Qianning said, stopping him.
"No," Sang Zhi cried out.
Frustrated with himself, he gritted his teeth and barely managed to lift her. He staggered as he walked, and after just a few steps, he stumbled and dropped her on the ground.
The movement pulled at her wounds, and Ye Qianning let out a muffled groan.
Sang Zhi panicked. "Are you okay? It’s all my fault, all my fault. I’m so useless..."
He was the one holding her back. It was all his fault she was hurt this badly.
"*Cough, cough*... Don’t cry."
BANG!
WHOOSH...
The birds circling the black-robed men were blasted away by a wave of Inner Strength, killed instantly.
Immediately after, the honeyeaters near Chu Yue were also struck down by Inner Strength. Scratches marked Chu Yue’s face. The honeyeaters were small and posed no real threat, but their sheer numbers and sudden appearance had caused a brief moment of chaos and panic. In the end, however, the whole thing only delayed them for a minute or two.
Ye Qianning stared at the dead honeyeaters on the ground, a bitter feeling welling up inside her. ’I never told them to act, yet they came anyway.’
Chu Yue turned and glared at the two of them not far away. "Not even the gods themselves can save you now."
Seeing her approach, Sang Zhi immediately spread his arms to shield Ye Qianning behind him. "Don’t you touch her."
Chu Yue walked up to them and bent down slightly, her gaze fixed on his gray eyes. "I can spare her. In exchange for your eyes."
"I’ll give them to you, I’ll give them to you! Just let her go," Sang Zhi said without any hesitation.
"What are you talking about?" Ye Qianning’s small hand clutched his clothes.
"I can still live without my eyes, but I don’t want you to die. I absolutely don’t," Sang Zhi cried, turning back to her. ’As long as she can live, what’s a pair of eyes? I wouldn’t complain even if she asked for my life.’
Hearing his words, Ye Qianning’s heart skipped a beat, and her small hand tightened its grip on his clothes.
’My kindness toward him was all because of the space’s influence...’
’And yet, this is how he treats me.’
"Princess, the fire is climbing the mountain. If we don’t hurry, we won’t be able to get down," a man in black warned.
Chu Yue glanced at the sky. It was filled with smoke, and the fire had turned half of it red.
Someone had just set the mountain on fire, though it was unclear who. A guard had observed that the fire below had started from the second broken peak.
Moreover, people were still setting fires at the broken peak, seemingly trying to form a circle to burn the entire upper half of the mountain.
She could already feel the searing heat. It looked like the fire would reach them in about two hours, so they really couldn’t delay. If they waited until the arsonists below completed the circle, they would truly be trapped.
"Don’t listen to her. If you give her your eyes, we’ll both die." Ye Qianning saw the situation with perfect clarity. They only cared about Sang Zhi’s eyes; they wouldn’t let him die before they had them. But the moment they did, they would kill him without hesitation. People like Chu Yue were completely untrustworthy.
"But, but..."
"You absolutely cannot give them your eyes. Not to anyone." Ye Qianning grabbed his shoulders, instructing him earnestly, "I came here to save you. If you die too, then I came up here for nothing."
"I don’t want you to die. I don’t."
"If I die, you have to keep living. As long as you’re alive, there’s hope."
Sang Zhi hugged her desperately. ’No, I don’t want you to die. No!’
"Alright, give me your eyes now." Chu Yue was out of time.
"You want his eyes? Dream on!" ’He treated me with such sincerity,’ Ye Qianning thought. ’How could I possibly let him die?’
