Chapter 566: A Bellyful of Questions
Gu Shuo stepped forward cautiously. Qian Fanji set Ying Yuan down, and Zhan Chi also put Luo Wen down, gesturing for the man in red and Ye Qianning to wait here.
"Don’t go," Ye Qianning said, stopping them.
Gu Shuo and Qian Fanji both turned at the sound of her voice.
"There are three of them. One doesn’t know any martial arts, and the other two are as skilled as the men in black you just killed. All three of you are injured. Let him go." Ye Qianning patted the man in red on the shoulder.
"And why should I?" the man in red asked, his handsome face creasing into a frown.
"Because you’re curious."
"I’m not curious about them." ’My curiosity is reserved for the little doll.’
"Curious about me?"
"Of course."
"Take care of them, and I’ll answer one of your questions."
"Do you mean it?" The man in red had been bottling up so many questions along the way.
Ye Qianning nodded.
"Fine. Seeing as they’re all incapable, I suppose I’ll reluctantly help them take care of these little insects." The man in red bent down and set Ye Qianning and Sang Zhi on the ground.
"Who needs your help?" Zhan Chi instantly bristled.
The expressions of Qian Fanji and Gu Shuo turned cold at his words.
Before the man in red could even move, Gu Shuo rushed toward the cave entrance.
Qian Fanji gathered his energy and sprang forward.
Zhan Chi shot a venomous glare at the man in red before rushing toward the entrance as well.
"Tsk. They’re certainly full of spirit. I suppose it’s my turn to act," the man in red tutted sarcastically.
"Indeed. In that case, you can just keep those questions to yourself." Since he wasn’t making a move, she saw no reason to answer his questions.
The man in red froze for a second, then in a flash of red robes, he shot out of the cave.
Ye Qianning shook her head. ’That lunatic really has a smart mouth.’
"My Lady." Ying Ge took a step forward.
"You don’t need to go. They’ll be enough," Ye Qianning said.
Ying Ge silently returned to her side.
"Ye Qianning." Sang Zhi’s eyes were red as he took her hand. His gaze fell to her wound, and his voice was thick and nasal. "It must hurt a lot, right?"
"It doesn’t hurt anymore," Ye Qianning said with a faint smile.
Sang Zhi knew she was lying, but he was powerless to do anything, so he could only grip her small hand tightly.
Inside the cave, Qin Huai and two men in black had split up to search for Ye Qianning. But as the fire outside raged, he’d had no choice but to return.
He had thought Chu Yue would also return to the cave, but to his surprise, he hadn’t seen her, even as the flames licked at the entrance.
’I wonder what’s become of Her Highness,’ Qin Huai thought, turning to head outside.
A man in black blocked his path. "Lord Consort, we can’t get out now. When I returned just moments ago, the fire had already swept past Duan Peak. If I hadn’t been fast enough, I would have perished in that inferno."
"Then... doesn’t that mean Her Highness is..." Qin Huai’s face went white. "How am I supposed to explain this to the Emperor when I get back?"
"You won’t have to explain anything, Lord Qin."
A voice cut in.
Qin Huai froze and looked up. "Who’s there?"
The two men in black drew their swords and shielded Qin Huai.
Gu Shuo charged in. "You can forfeit your life, Lord Qin. Then you won’t have to worry about explaining anything."
Qin Huai was stunned, but before he had a chance to speak, two more figures appeared before him.
"You... How did you all find this place?" Minister Qian’s son, the Zhan family’s young master, and Boss Gu had all appeared at once. ’Could it be that the Beili Emperor has found us?’
’Did he send them to capture us?’
Gu Shuo’s eyes narrowed. Disdaining to waste words, he drew his sword and lunged.
Seeing him attack, the two men in black moved as one to intercept him.
Seething with pent-up fury, Qian Fanji and Zhan Chi also leaped into the fray, their attacks utterly ruthless.
Standing in the back, Qin Huai could clearly feel the killing intent radiating from the attackers. His two men were clearly no match for their three opponents. He began to inch his way toward the cave entrance.
