Chapter 524: Meek as a Lamb
Dean Chen nodded and turned to walk toward the palace gates.
Ye Qianning watched his receding figure. ’The Beili Emperor places a great deal of trust in Master. As for my identity, the only one that would truly convince the Beili Emperor is that I’m from the Zhan family.’
’If we don’t announce my identity as an heir of the Zhan family, the Beili Emperor certainly won’t either.’
’The Zhan family already has Noble Princess Consort Zhan in the palace. If my identity were to be revealed and the Zhan family were to produce another Crown Princess Consort, it would undoubtedly cause an uproar among all the court officials.’
"Ye Qianning."
A voice called out.
Ye Qianning looked toward the voice. Across the road, Gao Qi was leaning out of a carriage window, his eyes lighting up in pleasant surprise as he looked her way.
’The Gao family again!’
’Our horoscopes must be in total conflict!’
"Ye Qianning." Gao Qi seemed so excited to see her that he leaned halfway out of the window.
Ye Qianning had no desire to deal with him. She lowered the carriage curtain. "Luo Wen, let’s go."
Gao Qi’s face fell as he watched the girl he’d been longing to see disappear back inside her carriage. He pulled himself back in and stood up. "Stop the carriage!"
"Young Master, what are you doing? It’s dangerous!"
The attendant pulled on the reins, but before the carriage had even come to a steady halt, Gao Qi leaped off.
Gao Qi weaved through the street’s traffic of carriages and pedestrians, jogging after Ye Qianning’s carriage.
The street was quite crowded, so the carriage moved slowly. Before long, the little boy was standing in front of it, blocking the way with outstretched arms.
"Move aside," Luo Wen said coldly.
Gao Qi kept his small hands up. "I won’t! I want to see Ye Qianning."
"Our lady is not receiving visitors."
"No! Ye Qianning, don’t leave! Come out!"
"If you don’t move aside, Young Master Gao, then I won’t be so polite," Luo Wen’s voice grew colder.
"I won’t move! Not unless Ye Qianning comes out! You can beat me to death, but I still won’t move!" Gao Qi was incredibly stubborn, his high-pitched voice thick with indignation and a tearful whimper.
Ye Qianning’s head throbbed. ’Just as I’d expect from the Gao family. They’re all obsessed with confronting my carriage, taking turns to block the road.’
"Young Master Gao..."
"I won’t move! I just won’t! WAAAH..." As Gao Qi shouted, he burst into tears.
Luo Wen was taken aback. "What are you crying about?"
"WAAAH WAAAH! I won’t move! I won’t..."
"Oh dear, my Young Master, why are you crying? Did the carriage hit you?" The attendant from behind ran up, looking absolutely terrified.
"..."
Luo Wen was rendered speechless whenever he had to deal with the Gao family.
’Every last one of them is a freak!’
"Luo Wen, let him come up," Ye Qianning said softly.
"Yes."
Luo Wen dismounted and walked over. "Alright, you little crybaby from the Gao family, our lady says you can come up."
Gao Qi’s crying hitched. Wiping his tears with a small hand, he started toward the carriage.
Luo Wen blocked him again. "Wipe off those tears and snot. Don’t get our carriage dirty."
"As if a carriage from the General’s Residence is so precious..."
"Okay, okay, all clean now."
Before the attendant could finish his indignant muttering, Gao Qi had already grabbed his sleeve, scrubbed it across his face in a circle, and let out a final sniffle. Done.
"..."
The Gao family attendant’s eyelid twitched as he watched.
’Usually, the young master acts like a little tyrant at home, listening to no one. Let alone wailing and crying his eyes out.’
’Tsk!’
’But faced with someone from the General’s Residence, he’s as meek as a little lamb. How bizarre!’
After wiping his face, Gao Qi scrambled onto the carriage with a huff and a puff. He stepped inside, and his heart leaped with joy at the sight of the little doll-like girl reclining on the soft couch.
Ye Qianning noted his delighted expression, completely baffled. "What do you want from me?"
"You... HIC..." Gao Qi had just started to speak when a hiccup from his earlier crying escaped. He quickly clapped a small hand over his mouth.
"..."
"I... HIC... HIC..."
Gao Qi kept his mouth covered, inwardly annoyed with himself for crying so hard earlier. He still hadn’t recovered.
