Chapter 150 - 149: The Heaven-Devouring Thieves Strike
Tang Yi didn’t care what anyone else thought. After all, only he knew his own mind.
He had originally considered helping the people from Fengyue City. Even if he couldn’t assist them the entire way, he would have given them a hand if the opportunity arose. But now, it seemed that wasn’t necessary. Everyone had already made their choice.
Tang Yi wasn’t a Saint. He could help his own friends and family grow stronger, but he couldn’t do the same for the entire world.
’What relationship do I have with them?’
’Is it my place to manage them? I’m just an insignificant person.’
At this moment, only five people remained seated beside Tang Yi.
Aside from Tang Piaomiao and the other two members of the Tang Family who hadn’t left, Mu Xianling and Wang Bi’Er also remained seated by his side.
Wang Bi’Er’s presence was a given. She had seen Tang Yi in action before, so she knew his true strength. She was certain that he could enter the West Mansion without needing to form any alliances.
As for Mu Xianling, she was now Tang Yi’s servant because of their bet. Regardless of her personal feelings, she had to stand with Tang Yi.
Thus, the two of them were destined to be on the same side as Tang Yi.
And so, a small group of six was formed.
HUMMM.
The matter of forming alliances had concluded. Everyone on the Void Warship began to close their eyes and recuperate, waiting for the Warship to reach the West Mansion Headquarter. At that moment, a noise echoed from the horizon.
"Did everyone hear that sound?"
"I heard it. It’s a low hum, like it’s right next to my ear. I don’t know what it is."
"Everyone, look! What is that over there?"
Following one of the examinees’ startled cry, everyone looked in the direction of the sound and saw a tiny black dot flying toward the Void Warship.
This terrified everyone.
The Void Warship was currently traveling at an extremely high speed. For something to be moving even faster—fast enough to catch up to them—was utterly shocking.
Elder Lu tensed up and leaped onto the phoenix statue at the Warship’s stern, his expression grim as he peered in the direction of the approaching black dot.
HUMMM!
The sound from the distance grew louder, and the small black dot gradually expanded in everyone’s vision.
It had the head and tail of a black flood dragon for its bow and stern, and a flag bearing a skull fluttered in the wind.
It was another Warship!
What’s more, it was a Warship flying a skull flag!
’Weren’t we told that only the West Mansion had Warships? Then what is that?!’
Seeing this new Warship left everyone completely bewildered.
First, they didn’t know what kind of Warship this was. Second, they didn’t know what sort of influence could possess a Warship just like the West Mansion. And third, they had no idea if this Warship was friend or foe. Everything was shrouded in uncertainty, making the examinees exceptionally terrified.
Tang Yi also saw the Warship flying the skull flag, and his brow furrowed slightly. For some reason, a strong sense of unease suddenly welled up within him, and the hairs on his body stood on end.
Judging from the situation, this Warship’s arrival was not a friendly visit!
And just as Tang Yi had sensed, Elder Lu, who was standing on the phoenix statue, saw his face fall. He addressed all the examinees and the West Mansion’s powerhouses with utmost seriousness, "Everyone, on alert! These are the Heaven-Devouring Thieves from the Outer Domain! They are incredibly vicious! All examinees, find a place to hide. As for the relevant West Mansion personnel, gather around and prepare to face the enemy!"
"The Heaven-Devouring Thieves?"
Upon hearing this, a wave of panic swept through the Void Warship. Although no one knew what the Heaven-Devouring Thieves were, Elder Lu was a Battle Emperor Powerhouse. For even him to be so tense meant that these Heaven-Devouring Thieves were surely terrifying.
Everyone scrambled from their seats, all looking for a place to hide. But the Void Warship was only so big, and with several hundred people crowded onto it, there was nowhere to go.
Meanwhile, the powerhouses from the West Mansion heard the order and gathered together, their faces tense.
There were a significant number of powerhouses from the West Mansion aboard this Void Warship, acting as guards from the various cities. There were about a hundred of them, all at the Battle Spirit Level. Adding the Chief Examiners from all thirty-six cities, each of whom possessed the power of a Battle King, there were over two hundred people in total.
When gathered, these people represented a formidable power, their strength comparable to some small and medium-sized Sects.
And yet, despite being such a formidable force, every single one of them looked incredibly tense as they faced the so-called "Heaven-Devouring Thieves," as if they were about to confront the greatest enemy of their lives.
This just went to show what a massive deterrent effect these "Heaven-Devouring Thieves" possessed.
"Tang Yi."
Wang Zongyao came to Tang Yi’s side before going to join the others.
"Uncle Wang." Tang Yi was taken aback, not understanding why Wang Zongyao would come to him at a time like this.
Wang Zongyao glanced at Wang Bi’Er beside Tang Yi and said seriously, "Tang Yi, the situation is critical. I don’t have time to explain everything, but please, you must ensure my Bi’Er’s safety. I’m begging you! Bi’Er is the only person I can’t bear to leave behind. As long as you can protect her, consider me, Wang Zongyao, to be in your debt!"
"There’s no need to say that. I’ve long considered Bi’Er my own little sister. Protecting her is a matter of course. Don’t worry, Uncle Wang. As long as I, Tang Yi, am alive, I will definitely keep Sister Bi’Er safe."
Seeing the gravity of Wang Zongyao’s expression, Tang Yi guessed how serious the situation was. So, to keep Wang Zongyao from being distracted, he nodded and made his promise.
"Good. Now I can rest easy."
With Tang Yi’s promise, Wang Zongyao nodded, his heart at ease. He then looked over at Wang Bi’Er and said, "Bi’Er, no matter what happens in a moment, you must stay by Tang Yi’s side. Don’t run off, do you understand? Your Brother Tang Yi’s strength is extraordinary; he can definitely keep you safe."
"Yes, I understand, Bi’Er will listen to Brother Tang Yi and won’t run off. Daddy, you need to be careful too," Wang Bi’Er said obediently.
"I will!"
The burden on his heart lifted, Wang Zongyao’s expression finally relaxed. He gave Wang Bi’Er a hug, then quickly ran toward the gathering point for the West Mansion’s powerhouses.
"You all stand beside me. Don’t run off, understand?"
After Wang Zongyao left, Tang Yi commanded sternly, his tone leaving no room for argument.
"Brother Yi, we understand," the three from the Tang Family were the first to respond.
"And you two!" Tang Yi said, turning to Mu Xianling and Wang Bi’Er.
"I promised Daddy I’d listen to Brother Tang Yi, so I won’t run off," Wang Bi’Er said with a nod.
"Even the Chief Examiner, Lord Wang, is scared of these enemies. How are you going to protect us? Why should I listen to you?" only Mu Xianling retorted defiantly.
Tang Yi’s commanding tone, which brooked no argument, made Mu Xianling extremely unhappy.
If he had spoken in a ’gentler’ tone, Mu Xianling might have followed his instructions. But Tang Yi’s attitude made it instantly unacceptable to her.
"Hm?"
Tang Yi froze for a second, then shot a frowning glance at Mu Xianling.
’It seems this Mu Xianling still hasn’t grasped what it means to be a servant!’
’Fine. In that case, I’ll just have to give her a little help!’
With that thought, Tang Yi raised his hand and slapped it toward Mu Xianling.
