Chapter 170 - 169: I’ll Prove It to You
No need to run?
Who said that?
Hearing this, the crowd turned their heads in confusion, wanting to see who had spoken. Their eyes fell upon an incredibly young face, brimming with confidence.
"Tang Yi?"
Wang Zongyao asked, bewildered, "What do you mean, ’no need to run’? You don’t want to live?"
"No." Tang Yi shook his head. He was the one who said they didn’t need to run.
Tang Yi spoke with a serious expression, "It’s not that I don’t want to live; it’s that I want *everyone* to live. I said we don’t need to run because I’m willing to face that Battle Emperor Powerhouse with Elder Lu! If Elder Lu and I join forces, we can definitely defeat him!"
Tang Yi spoke with absolute certainty, his face a mask of confidence, as if he was one hundred percent sure of victory.
And of course, in his heart, Tang Yi *was* one hundred percent sure.
If he went alone, he’d have a thirty percent chance of success, at most. But now, with Elder Lu, the situation was completely different.
That was why Tang Yi was so certain.
But...
Wang Zongyao stared at Tang Yi in shock, wondering if he had gone crazy.
It wasn’t just Wang Zongyao. All the West Mansion Chief Examiners, and even Elder Lu, looked at Tang Yi as if he were an idiot.
Based on his previous performance, they had determined that Tang Yi was a Battle King.
A Battle King this young had a future of limitless potential.
But now, a Battle King was actually saying he wanted to team up with a Battle Emperor to fight another Battle Emperor Powerhouse?
Wasn’t that a bit too arrogant?
What use could a Battle King possibly be in a battle between Battle Emperors?
The crowd felt that while Tang Yi was indeed powerful, he was also far too arrogant. That wasn’t a good trait. An attitude like that could get him killed—just like right now, claiming he would challenge a Battle Emperor. Wasn’t that just a death wish?
After his initial shock, Wang Zongyao saw that Tang Yi wasn’t joking and began to earnestly persuade him, "Tang Yi, don’t joke around. Do you have any idea how powerful a Battle Emperor Martial Artist is? Right now, besides Elder Lu, all of us combined wouldn’t be a match for that Battle Emperor Powerhouse."
"Stop being so stubborn. We’re facing a powerful enemy. Every person who can escape is a victory. Elder Lu has just barely recovered some of his Combat Power. He can definitely hold that Battle Emperor Powerhouse off for a while. Maybe he can last until reinforcements from the West Mansion arrive. That’s how we’ll survive."
Xiao Bai also nodded in agreement. "Junior Brother Wang is right. And Tang Yi, don’t be reckless. Where there’s life, there’s hope. Elder Lu is willing to risk his life to buy us time. If we don’t take this chance, wouldn’t we be wasting his kindness?"
One of the West Mansion’s Chief Examiners also said, "Young brother, I admit you’re quite skilled and possess some Heaven-Reaching talents, but you should still listen to Elder Lu and flee. A Battle Emperor Powerhouse is not someone we can stand against. Staying here will only add to Elder Lu’s burden."
Finally, even Elder Lu spoke up. "Tang Yi? I heard them call you Tang Yi, correct? Thank you for healing me, and thank you for having the resolve to face this with us. But, Tang Yi, you should still go. If you really try to face the enemy with me, it’ll be just as Chief Examiner Lin said. You’ll only be a burden to me and won’t be of any real help."
Elder Lu thought Tang Yi wasn’t running because he was worried about his safety, so he added, "And don’t worry, I’ll be fine. I’m just going to stall him for a bit. Once all of you have escaped, I’ll immediately flee as well. I don’t think I’ll die at that Battle Emperor’s hands."
"You don’t believe me? Uncle Wang, you don’t believe me either?"
Seeing that not a single person believed him, not even Wang Zongyao, Tang Yi frowned, a little unhappy.
After a moment’s thought, he suddenly declared, "Fine. Since none of you believe me, I’ll just have to show you!"
With that, as if in a fit of pique, he shot into the sky toward the group of Martial Artists from the Heaven-Devouring Thieves.
Of course, Tang Yi wasn’t acting out of pique. He was going to prove that he had the strength to back up his words!
Seeing Tang Yi’s impulsive act, the others wanted to stop him, but his Speed was simply too fast. By the time they reacted, he was already gone. It was impossible to stop him.
Even Elder Lu was astonished by the Speed at which Tang Yi shot forward. He hadn’t been able to react, not expecting him to be so fast.
Previously, Elder Lu had been locked in a fierce battle with the Battle Emperor Martial Artist from the Heaven-Devouring Thieves, so he’d had no time to pay attention to anything else. He had never seen Tang Yi fight and had no idea how powerful he was.
When he saw Tang Yi flying earlier, he had just assumed he was using some sort of artifact. But now, seeing Tang Yi display such Swift Speed, he realized that wasn’t the case. Tang Yi’s own strength was simply that extraordinary.
He was a Battle King!
At that moment, Elder Lu recalled something Wang Zongyao had said earlier. ’Maybe there’s an unexpected surprise among this year’s examinees?’
’This Tang Yi? Could he be the pleasant surprise of this year’s exam?’
’The Power of a Battle King, and unparalleled Speed.’
’Yes, he could definitely crush all the other examinees from every division of the West Mansion.’
’For a genius like him to enter the West Mansion... it would be a tremendous blessing for us.’
However, while Tang Yi was a genius among geniuses among the examinees—a true Demon—against a Battle Emperor, sheer Speed was clearly not enough.
Tang Yi’s current actions were still too reckless.
’Sigh... still so young.’
Elder Lu shook his head, helpless in the face of Tang Yi’s stubbornness. He turned to the crowd of Chief Examiners and commanded, "Stick to the plan. Organize everyone and prepare to flee. I’ll take care of Tang Yi and stopping that Battle Emperor Martial Artist."
A genius like Tang Yi was a vital strategic asset to the West Mansion. Elder Lu couldn’t let him just throw his life away.
Although Tang Yi was being incredibly reckless, his actions were somewhat understandable. Elder Lu wouldn’t hold it against him. He now considered rescuing Tang Yi and holding off the Battle Emperor Powerhouse to be one single mission, both parts equally important.
Hearing Elder Lu’s command, the others all nodded and began flying toward the Void Warship to prepare their escape.
Meanwhile, Tang Yi had already met his enemies.
Before him, a Battle Emperor Martial Artist wearing a golden mask and over twenty Battle King Warriors of varying strengths were flying his way.
The aura radiating from this approaching force was terrifying, an overwhelming pressure that felt like it could topple mountains and overturn seas.
The sky itself seemed to dim, as if shrouded in a gloomy haze.
But in the face of such a force, Tang Yi showed no sign of nervousness. His face was a picture of confidence.
Gripping his Shadow Remnant Sword, Tang Yi declared heroically, "Since none of you believe me, then I’ll prove to all of you just what kind of strength I, Tang Yi, possess!"
"BOOM!"
With that, Tang Yi held nothing back. His aura flared to its fullest as the Power within his body erupted.
