Chapter 439 - 365: Infinite Possibility: Attribute Annotation
’Or maybe they’re siblings or something?’
Of course, that wasn’t the point.
The point was, Gao Neng felt like he had completely lost control of his body, as if he were trapped inside a giant block of ice.
It was bone-chillingly cold.
Moreover, he was completely paralyzed. All he could do was float in the air, just like the skeletons around him.
But the reality was, aside from the skeletons of some Dark Creatures, there was nothing else around.
’Could this be a natural magnetic field?’ Gao Neng quickly considered the possibility. Special magnetic environments did exist outside the Underground City.
So it would be perfectly normal for such a place to exist in the Demon Abyss.
The problem was...
What kind of magnetic field was this?
He couldn’t sense it at all.
"Gao Xiaomeng, there’s something wrong with this place. Can you sense what it is?" Gao Neng couldn’t even open his mouth right now, so he could only communicate with Gao Xiaomeng through their mental link.
"The airflow has stopped," Gao Xiaomeng finally responded.
"The airflow has stopped?"
"Yes, and it’s compressed... very densely compressed," Gao Xiaomeng replied again.
’Stagnant and compressed airflow?’ Gao Neng wanted to frown, but he couldn’t. It was as if his body no longer belonged to him.
Aside from his thoughts, his entire body was immobilized.
If he guessed correctly, the surrounding skeletons had died here for this very reason—their bodies lost control, and they were left to wait for death.
It was truly cruel.
A slow and torturous end.
Gao Neng couldn’t just die here. There were still so many things he hadn’t done. For example, he was still, in the truest sense of the word, a virgin.
He had to find a way to break this natural magnetic field.
But how could he break through this stagnant, compressed airflow?
’Whatever!’
’If I can’t think of a way, then I’ll just have to make one!’
’Extract Elemental Energy!’ Gao Neng snorted inwardly and began trying to extract the various types of Elemental Energy from the surrounding air.
He got a reaction very quickly.
The Elemental Energy in the air surged toward him.
But at that moment, a bizarre scene unfolded.
As soon as he extracted a portion of the elements from the air, an equal amount would immediately replenish it. No matter how much he extracted, the composition of the surrounding air remained exactly the same.
’Can’t break the stalemate?’ Gao Neng wasn’t panicking at all.
He was just trembling a little on the inside. In the past, with his hidden talents maxed out, he could break out of any predicament, but now, that wasn’t working.
This natural magnetic field was formed by nature.
This meant that the stagnant and compressed airflow had a sort of infinite ’charge.’ As a result, however much he extracted would be instantly replenished.
’I’ll try to ’inject’ the extracted airflow back in, or maybe use it for ’jet propulsion.’’ Gao Neng’s thoughts raced.
He then began to experiment.
First, he tried to inject the extracted air elements back into the environment.
He quickly discovered that however many air elements he injected, the same amount would be removed from the air. It was like a perpetual ’equilibrium.’
First attempt...
Failure!
’Still not panicking.’
’Because failure is the mother of success.’
Next, he tried his second idea.
Gao Neng began to attach the extracted air elements to his body, hoping to create a force that would slowly propel him forward.
He found that it actually had an effect.
But the effect was so minuscule it was practically useless.
The moment the air he controlled attached to his body and began to push, it would immediately become stationary again. Consequently, his movement was incredibly slow.
Basically a turtle’s crawl.
’This is no good. At this rate, it’s no different from just drifting,’ Gao Neng had to admit that his second attempt had also ended in failure.
’Yep, still not panicking.’
He began to think calmly.
’Has the air formed a kind of ’solid stillness’ due to extreme compression?’
’That’s going to be a problem.’
’If it were water being compressed instead of air, things would be better.’
’I’d only have to bear the water pressure, but I could still swim through it.’
’Wait!’
’Swim through it?!’
An image suddenly flashed through Gao Neng’s mind.
A few months ago, on the battlefield, he had seen Gui Zian use a technique to swim through the air like a fish.
And he was super fast.
Unfortunately, he never asked Gui Zian how to use that combat technique.
’So, I still shouldn’t panic, right?’
’Right. Must. Not. Panic!’
"..." Gao Neng was perfectly calm. His face, bathed in the silvery-white light, had a faint reddish tint. This was absolutely not because he was panicking inside; he just felt a little chilly.
Extracting Elemental Energy was ineffective.
Air-compression propulsion was also useless.
Gui Zian’s combat technique was a possibility, but the problem was he didn’t know how to use it.
So, to sum it all up...
’The only way out is to wait for death, right?’
’Assuming... waiting for death even counts as a ’way out.’’
Of course, Gao Neng wasn’t going to wait for death. He was a fine young man with ideals and ambitions. He figured he might have one last chance.
Upgrading a special ability!
It was a desperate measure.
But no matter what, he was already in a hopeless situation. Giving it a try couldn’t possibly make things worse, right?
’So, which special ability should I upgrade?’ Having made his decision, Gao Neng began to ponder which special ability had the highest chance of saving him.
He glanced at the abilities on his Attribute Panel again.
Special Abilities: 1. Death Glare (Intermediate). 2. Second Magnetic Core (Advanced). 3. Life Element Fusion (Intermediate). 4. Celestial Book Deduction (Intermediate). 5. Origin (Epic).
Special Skill: 1. Infinite Energy Infusion.
’None of these look like they can save me... but I’ll give it a shot. First, I’ll use the process of elimination to rule out the most unlikely ones. I’ll just have to gamble on whatever’s left!’ Gao Neng began to eliminate his options.
First, he ruled out the most improbable one, the Epic ability, Origin.
Next, the second one...
Death Glare was probably useless.
After all, no matter how hard you glare, you can’t stare the air into submission.
Two ruled out just like that.
Among the remaining options, Celestial Book Deduction could also be pretty much eliminated. It was used for deducing combat techniques and had nothing to do with saving his life.
That made three.
Only three were left.
Second Magnetic Core, Life Element Fusion, and one special skill, Infinite Energy Infusion.
This was a tough choice.
Second Magnetic Core had special effects, like removing negative statuses from his body, restoring energy, and increasing his cultivation speed.
Most importantly, choosing to upgrade Second Magnetic Core might trigger an Epic ability.
An Epic ability for Second Magnetic Core...
’Could that be the key to breaking this stalemate?’
’There’s a small chance.’
’Life Element Fusion also seems like a possibility.’
’Because Life Element Fusion is the only ability here that can directly increase my power. If I upgrade it to Advanced, will my strength skyrocket?’
Gao Neng hesitated between these two abilities.
Finally, his gaze fell on the only special skill: Infinite Energy Infusion.
To be honest,
When he first got this skill, Gao Neng had high hopes for it. And it did help him in the early stages, allowing him to successfully manifest that Super Earth Dragon.
But after he broke through to the intermediate-rank, this skill became pretty much useless.
As an intermediate-rank, he could already perform energy infusion on his own.
So, this skill could be considered his most useless one right now.
But deep down,
Gao Neng didn’t believe this skill was truly useless. After all, the name itself was badass: Infinite Energy Infusion. How awesome does that sound?
More importantly, it was his only Special Skill, not a Special Ability.
’Should I gamble on it?’ Gao Neng’s heart pounded. This was a life-or-death gamble. Win and he’d ascend to the heavens; lose and he’d ascend to the heavens, too.
’Or should I play it safe?’
’Pick between Second Magnetic Core and Life Element Fusion?’
Gao Neng was truly hesitant.
One of those abilities could be upgraded directly to Epic, and the other to Advanced. The odds looked much better with them.
Meanwhile, the so-called Infinite Energy Infusion was, at best, a basic skill right now.
Upgrading from Basic to Intermediate, Intermediate to Advanced, or Advanced to Epic—most people would know instantly which was the better deal.
But Gao Neng wasn’t most people.
’Based on this scam system’s usual bullshit, if upgrading a skill is really the only way out, it’s always going to be the most unlikely-looking one!’ Gao Neng steeled his resolve.
He who hesitates is lost.
’I’ll bet on it!’
’Scam System, I want to upgrade the skill: Infinite Energy Infusion!’ Gao Neng shouted in his mind.
"Does the Host confirm the upgrade for Infinite Energy Infusion? Once upgraded, the choice cannot be changed. System friendly reminder: one wrong step leads to another. There are no do-overs in life!" a mechanical voice quickly rang out.
"Do-overs my ass! I’m upgrading this one! My life, my rules!" When Gao Neng made a decision, he never let outside forces interfere.
Especially not this scam system.
"DING! The skill Infinite Energy Infusion has been successfully upgraded."
"BEEP! Congratulations, Host. You have acquired a new special skill: Infinite Possibility."
"Infinite Possibility?!" The moment Gao Neng heard the name, his heart sank. How was this thing supposed to have any connection to his current predicament?
Still, acting on instinct, he immediately opened the skill description for Infinite Possibility.
There wasn’t much of a description inside.
Just a single line of text.
"Infinite Possibility Skill Description: There is nothing in this world that cannot be done. If you can imagine it, you can do it. This is Infinite Possibility. (Hint: The Host can infuse ’attributes’ onto any object.)"
