Chapter 172 - 127: Fishing Club (Part 3)
All his fish were ones he caught himself. The yield wasn’t high, but it was enough to sustain his one shop. A second one was out of the question—he’d work himself to death.
When he arrived at the shop, An Jun wasn’t looking too downcast. He was mainly just bored, feeling like he had nothing to do.
As for women, he wasn’t looking to get involved with anyone else for the time being. He liked a certain kind of woman, and his current girlfriend was very good at what she did, often leaving him unable to get enough.
Gu Nan paid him no mind, sitting in the shop and enjoying the air conditioning. No one wanted to go outside in this heat, not even to fish.
Just then, Wang Junhe suddenly gave him a call.
"Hey, Brother Wang."
"Ah Nan, Guo Xiao, a couple of other friends, and I are starting a fishing club. Are you interested in joining?"
"A fishing club? What’s it for?"
Wang Junhe explained, "It’s not anything too fancy, just a club where fellow anglers can connect. But we will have some money-making ventures, and we’ll be holding sea fishing tournaments down the line."
"I figured since you’re a lucky bastard who’s always catching big fish, I should pull you in. That way, when we hold tournaments, our club can score a high rank."
Gu Nan found this amusing. "Joining the club is no problem, but this whole ’always catching big fish’ thing is a big misunderstanding. I get skunked plenty of times, too."
Wang Junhe scoffed on the other end. "Hah, you get skunked? Every time Guo Xiao and I have seen you lately, you’ve had a massive haul."
"As long as you’re in, that’s all that matters. I’ll set you up as a premium internal member. You won’t have to pay any dues, and you can rent the club’s gear and fishing boats for free."
"But since you have your own boat, I’ll arrange for some perks for you at the end of the year."
"If there’s a tournament, though, you’ll have to represent the club. Of course, it’s not mandatory. If you’re busy, I can’t exactly drag you there by force, can I?"
"But you’d better clear your schedule for the club’s first fishing tournament when it happens!"
’A fishing club...’ Gu Nan wasn’t really familiar with the idea. ’But joining doesn’t cost me anything. Not to mention there are year-end perks, and if I get lucky and place in a tournament, I could get some free publicity for my seafood shop.’
Based on his relationship with Wang Junhe and Guo Xiao, he would have joined even if he had to pay the fee.
’But this tournament... it’s not platform fishing, is it?’
Gu Nan didn’t think he’d ever heard of any sea fishing tournaments in the country.
"Brother Wang, this tournament you mentioned, is it sea fishing or platform fishing?"
Wang Junhe said, "Sea fishing, of course. We’re partnering with a shipyard and a gear manufacturer. They’ve provided ten fishing boats for the club to rent out for now. I’ve also hired ten boat captains. Our main business will be renting out fishing boats and gear, as well as selling them."
"We’ve also hired a diving instructor to run that side of the business. If you’re interested, you can take some lessons. Then you’ll be able to go spearfishing in the open sea."
"We don’t need to make a huge profit, just enough to keep the club running."
"It’s a shame the local resources are a bit lacking, and most of the big fish are far offshore. Otherwise, if we could run a tuna fishing tournament like they have abroad, that would be a real spectacle."
Gu Nan agreed completely. Sea fishing was way more thrilling than platform fishing and much more likely to get your blood pumping.
He didn’t need to worry about the club’s business operations. After all, he was just an inside member who got in through the back door.
After hanging up, Wang Junhe sent him a link to an app and told him to download it and register. Wang Junhe would then edit his information on the back end to give him the permissions of an internal member.
In the future, he could rent boats or gear directly through the app.
Gu Nan was more interested in the spearfishing, though. For a die-hard angler, that sport held a massive appeal.
An Jun and Yi Chen had overheard most of the conversation from the side and now came over, full of curiosity.
Gu Nan told them about the fishing club, then smiled at An Jun. "You could join too, if you’re interested. Then you can just rent a boat and go out with an experienced captain who can take you right to the fish. Wouldn’t that be better than buying your own boat and just wandering around the sea?"
An Jun weighed the pros and cons. ’I can’t go out to sea every day anyway,’ he thought, ’so it’d be a waste to have a boat just sitting in the marina.’ He nodded. "Alright, send me the app. I’ll download it and register for a membership."
"Okay." Gu Nan sent him the app link.
Neither of them mentioned the special internal membership. They knew they could probably get another spot from Wang Junhe if they asked.
But that would mean owing an unnecessary favor. It was always easiest to solve things with money, so there was no point in getting indebted to someone.
As for Yi Chen, she was indifferent. She didn’t like fishing anyway.
They put the matter of the club aside for the time being. It had just opened, and the fishing tournament was still in the planning phase. The competition probably wouldn’t start until next month anyway.
Gu Nan went about his business, completely unaffected.
So, after dinner, he drove Yi Chen home and then headed to the marina.
The sardines at the shop weren’t selling, so he’d brought some along to use as bait for the night.
He parked his car, boarded the fishing boat, and set off.
He’d refueled with diesel that morning, costing him over seven thousand. This fishing boat was a real gas-guzzler.
At the rate Gu Nan was taking the boat out, he had to refuel every three or four days. If he journeyed out a little farther, the interval would be even shorter.
Gu Nan felt like he would have a good haul tonight.
’I have over thirty-five thousand seven hundred Gold Coins now, not far from fifty thousand.’
’Most importantly, Elite Missions One and Two are about to be completed. Those two missions together are worth five thousand Gold Coins. Add at least one thousand eight hundred from the daily missions, and that’s six thousand eight hundred.’
’Then there’s the Gold Coin Bonus Card. If I get lucky tonight and catch a giant Elite BOSS, I can complete the Elite Map Giant Collection mission, which rewards four thousand Gold Coins.’
’Add the two-thousand-Gold-Coin reward from the Elite BOSS itself, and once the Gold Coin Bonus Card pays out, I’ll be able to fuse the purple Fengqi Fishing Rod.’
’A golden fishing rod... Just the thought of it is exciting.’
