Chapter 251 - 156: The Shocking Appearance of a Waterspout

The weather at sea was famously unpredictable, but Gu Nan never imagined it could change so fast that the sky would transform right before his very eyes.

The fishing boat had just passed the large atoll. In the sky where a flock of seabirds had been soaring, dark clouds gathered at a speed visible to the naked eye, looming so low they nearly touched the sea.

"RUMBLE~"

A bolt of lightning streaked across the clouds, and it took several seconds for the sound to reach their ears.

The captain immediately stopped the boat, warily eyeing the sudden change in weather.

When he saw the wind begin to swirl on the water’s surface, he immediately pulled out his phone. "Quick, quick! Get everyone out here! A natural wonder is about to happen. You’ll regret it for life if you miss this!"

At those words, Gu Nan’s heart skipped a beat, and he took off running.

Wang Junhe and Guo Xiao had been trolling off the stern, but they had already noticed the strange sight ahead of the boat and made their way to the bow.

The first thing Gu Nan did was burst into Yi Chen’s room and scoop her right into his arms. "Time to get up and go back to sleep—Bah! I mean, Chenchen, come out and see the miracle!"

’Who am I? Where am I? What am I doing?’

Since she was only taking a short nap, she had curled up on the sofa for a bit. Gu Nan didn’t catch a glimpse of anything he shouldn’t have, so he simply carried the groggy girl up to the flybridge—the perfect viewing spot.

Yi Chen was still in a daze, wondering why on earth Gu Nan had brought her up here!

The very next moment, Wang Junhe, Su Qing, and Guo Xiao also arrived on the flybridge, buzzing with excitement. They were holding either phones or digital cameras, and even the ship’s crew and chefs had all run out to see.

Yi Chen was just about to ask what was happening when a small tornado suddenly formed on the surface of the sea. Accompanied by the flashing lightning and rumbling thunder, the sight made her jaw drop in amazement.

"Is the Dragon King undergoing his heavenly tribulation?"

The others who heard her all froze for a second, then burst out laughing.

"You’re so adorable," Su Qing said, amused. "Didn’t Ah Nan tell you? It’s a ’dragon sucking water’."

"A ’dragon sucking water’? Huh?!" Once it clicked, Yi Chen was too mesmerized to blame Gu Nan for not telling her sooner and letting her make a fool of herself. She quickly grabbed her phone to start recording.

A waterspout was indeed a rare natural spectacle, and it wasn’t just one that appeared before them. As the first column of water shot toward the sky, three more rose up in succession to its right.

Some of the seabirds that had initially scattered in fright were swept away by these three new waterspouts.

They were too far away to see clearly, but countless fish were being sucked up into the sky by the waterspouts. They would have been torn to pieces after just a few collisions with each other.

Many other fish remained intact, but after a tour of the heavens like that, they would likely be dead from shock by the time they fell back to the sea. Very few would survive.

"I’ve been out to sea so many times, but this is the first time I’ve seen such a spectacular group of waterspouts. This trip was worth it!" Wang Junhe exclaimed.

"It really is a wondrous sight. Many people go their whole lives without seeing one," Su Qing added, feeling lucky she had come along. Otherwise, she would have missed such a magnificent scene.

After a short while, however, those who were filming began to notice something wasn’t quite right.

Gu Nan asked uncertainly, "Is it just me, or do those waterspouts seem to be getting bigger?"

Guo Xiao’s eyes flew wide. "Shit! What do you mean, ’getting bigger’? They’re getting closer! Everyone, get in the cabin, now!"

Everyone’s heart skipped a beat. He was right—the waterspouts were moving.

Forgetting all about filming, they scrambled for the safety of the cabin.

In fact, the captain had noticed something was amiss even earlier. He had been telling everyone to take cover in the cabin while already maneuvering the fishing boat to a safe distance.

Fortunately, the fishing boat had only been stopped, not shut down. Combined with the fact that the waterspouts weren’t moving very fast, they successfully moved to the side of their path.

A waterspout is essentially a small tornado, and the ones they encountered weren’t particularly massive. With their small diameters, the thirty-meter fishing boat could have probably withstood a direct hit.

Still, it would have most likely caused some damage. Fish spinning at high speeds and smashing into the hull were no laughing matter.

And sure enough, just as one of the waterspouts drew near, THWACK! A fish slammed against the window of the wheelhouse, catching the attention of the few people hiding inside.

"A flying fish?"

"Well, I’ll be damned. It really is flying now!"

The words had barely left his mouth when a barrage of thuds and splats rained down. A huge number of flying fish that had been sucked up by the waterspout were now falling from the sky, mixed in with other small to medium-sized fish.

"The cleaning crew is going to have their work cut out for them," Gu Nan remarked, uninterested in the flying fish. He was just lamenting the difficult cleanup ahead. "With the waterspout passing over, the boat must be covered in fish. It’s going to be a filthy, difficult mess to clean!"

’It wasn’t like a huge number of fish fell on the boat anyway. At most, they could fill two or three crates. How much could that possibly be worth?’

However, after steering clear of the waterspout, the captain headed directly toward the location of the other three.

Before anyone could ask, he took the initiative to explain, "Who knows how many fish those waterspouts sucked into the sky. Once they disappear, the sea will be covered with them. That’s sure to attract a lot of big predators looking for a meal. It’s the perfect time to fish."

Hearing this, the three men in the wheelhouse grew excited. Big fish!

The main goal of this trip was to catch big fish, and they’d take anything, be it tuna or other large species. How could they possibly miss an opportunity like this?

The fishing boat reached the edge of the sea still covered by the storm clouds. Immediately, they saw small fish floating everywhere on the surface, and even a few seagulls that had been killed by the vortex.

The fishing boat stopped again. The three waterspouts had not yet dissipated, so they would have to wait before fishing over there.

Still, this spot was excellent as well. It had likely already attracted plenty of predators.
