Chapter 542 - 273: I Only Want the Ball
The cave was concealed by vines and buried in dirt, long ago lost among the mountain rocks.
The woman in the lead waved her arm. A surge of True Qi instantly erupted, blowing away all the vines and dirt to reveal a metal-sealed cave entrance.
The woman recited the True Words. A moment later, the entrance opened slowly, like a machine, revealing a passage inside.
The two women stepped inside, and the lights grew brighter as they walked forward.
"How magical! These lights aren’t from flames. They look like they’re glowing from Crystal Stones."
The younger woman said in amazement.
"This is my first time seeing it too. It’s truly amazing."
Filled with curiosity, the two continued onward and soon reached a vast cavern.
The walls of the cavern were completely encased in metal. In the center was a metal sphere, its surface gleaming with a porcelain-white luster.
It was massive, standing several stories high.
A look of delight appeared in the lead woman’s eyes. She rushed forward, gazing up at the behemoth.
"Is this the Celestial Ladder our patriarch mentioned?"
"Why is it a sphere? Is there a ladder inside it?"
The senior sister ignored her junior sister’s confusion and quickly recited the True Words.
After a moment, the entire cave suddenly plunged into darkness. Then, as if awakening, the sphere flashed and lit up.
A brilliant light shone from underneath it. The glow grew hotter, and soon four beams of light shot out.
The entire sphere slowly rose, hovering in midair.
"This..."
"It’s... flying..."
The junior sister stared at the sphere in astonishment, at a loss for words.
CLICK!
A crisp mechanical sound rang out. A hatch suddenly opened on one side of the sphere, and a ramp extended outward.
The two women exchanged a look, their eyes burning with an unprecedented intensity. They turned and rushed into the sphere together.
The hatch closed with a CLANG. The entire sphere shot up with a WHOOSH, bursting through the dirt and rock of the cave roof. It soared high into the sky and vanished into the vast expanse of stars.
"Did something just shoot up into the sky?"
"It looked like a giant sphere!"
The sphere’s sudden departure caught the attention of several keen observers, who all turned their gazes toward the sky.
A few powerful experts even gave chase, but the sphere was too fast. They were soon left in the dust, forced to give up dejectedly.
The sphere continued to ascend, passing through the thick atmosphere and the vacuum of space before entering the vast cosmos.
The sphere followed a pre-plotted course toward its destination.
Inside the sphere, the two women huddled in their seats, staring dumbfoundedly at the distant view on the screen.
They were completely powerless now, able only to let the sphere carry them away from their planet toward an unknown destination.
Just as the two were nervously watching the dark, star-filled cosmos on the screen, the sphere suddenly blared an alarm.
The alarm grew louder. They felt the sphere shudder violently before an immense force slowly brought it to a halt.
Then, amid the piercing alarm, it was dragged down toward a small planet.
"Senior Sister! What’s happening?"
"Something must have intercepted us. Prepare to fight!"
The senior sister’s eyes turned sharp. Her aura flared as she prepared for battle.
Seeing this, the terrified junior sister also quickly circulated her qi, her eyes fixed warily on the entrance.
"Is anyone in there?"
"Open the door. I don’t mean any harm! I’m just asking for directions!"
Just as the two were growing anxious, a voice that seemed to bypass their ears and speak directly to their minds—a Divine Soul Transmission—passed through the metal hull and entered their consciousness.
The two exchanged a horrified look, their palms beginning to sweat.
"If you don’t open up, I’ll have to force my way in. I’d have to fix it if I break it, and I don’t know how. *Sigh*."
The voice sounded lazy, almost resigned.
But they could tell it was a man’s voice.
’Could it be our missing patriarch?’ the senior sister’s eyes lit up as she muttered to herself.
"If it were the patriarch, how could he not be able to open the door? Senior Sister, it can’t be him. It’s probably some fiend from the Evil Dao."
The junior sister quickly shook the older woman, waving her hands in dismissal.
The senior sister nodded in agreement.
"If you don’t open this door, I’m going to have to get rough."
As the man outside spoke, he suddenly moved closer to the entrance. A massive force struck, shaking the entire sphere.
"This is bad! Senior Sister, what do we do?"
"I’ll try reciting the True Words!"
The senior sister quickly recited the True Words. Four jets of flame erupted from the sphere’s base, propelling it upward.
"Trying to run, are you!"
The man outside had no intention of letting it escape. He immediately used some technique to pull the sphere back down.
"Since you won’t come out, don’t blame me for doing this the hard way!"
The man outside spoke in a cold voice. An invisible Charm Power immediately followed his Divine Soul Transmission, flooding toward the two women inside.
"Watch out, it’s a Divine Soul Attack!"
The senior sister cried out in alarm. A jade pendant on her chest began to emit a misty glow, blocking the Divine Soul Attack and its Charm Power.
Although she could resist it, her junior sister had no Exotic Treasure to protect her. Her eyes quickly went vacant, and she began walking toward the door.
"Junior Sister!"
Before her words had even faded, the sphere’s door seemed to sense her junior sister’s presence and began to glow with a strange light.
"Oh no!"
The senior sister cried out in alarm, lunging to stop her junior sister while simultaneously pressing her palm against a blank spot on the door.
A ripple of light flashed there, in the exact shape of her handprint.
"You really want to do this the hard way!"
The woman had just pulled her junior sister back when the sphere was suddenly yanked into the air and violently flung about.
The two women had no time to react before the immense acceleration slammed them against the inner wall of the sphere.
After this happened several more times, the senior sister completely lost control, her body tossed about inside the sphere like a pebble.
"Release my junior sister, and I’ll open the door."
Seeing that her opponent’s strength was truly terrifying, the senior sister gritted her teeth against the sharp pain and made her demand.
"Fine. I just want this ship. You two can go wherever you please."
The strange man outside replied without hesitation.
The senior sister sighed. Whether he was telling the truth no longer mattered. There was nothing to be gained from resisting. Her opponent was so powerful he could deal with them effortlessly.
As she recited the Spell of True Words, a door on the ship did indeed open slowly.
A moment later, a handsome man with a striking presence and faintly yellow-toned skin stepped inside.
The man’s skin was fine and smooth. While he looked different from them, his features were more than ninety percent similar, almost as if they were of the same kind.
The two women were both frightened and amazed. They didn’t dare move, watching him with extreme caution.
The man was clearly surprised as well, a hint of delight in his voice. "I never expected to meet blue-skinned humans. Haha. So, convergent evolution really is a thing."
"Please, Senior, spare my junior sister!"
The senior sister dropped to her knees, prostrating herself on the floor.
Her junior sister had already collapsed to the floor, unconscious.
"I just want the ship. What would I do with you two?"
The man chuckled, examining the spherical ship with delight.
’I can’t believe I found a ship,’ he thought. ’Finally, I don’t have to live like a savage anymore.’
The man was, of course, Zhao Rui. He had been resting on an asteroid when he spotted this strange ship.
The universe was a desolate place; encountering other living beings was no easy feat.
Zhao Rui had no intention of letting it get away, so he had captured it directly.
