Chapter 455 - 224: This Sword Looks Familiar
When the man in black saw Zhao Rui draw his sword and attack without a word, his eyes narrowed, and a faint, mocking smile touched his lips.
"You truly don’t know your own limits!"
With a wave of his hand, the man in black materialized a colossal, icy palm from his Dharma True Essence, which clawed at the charging Zhao Rui.
Zhao Rui was fearless. With a flash of sword light, the Treasure Sword in his hand shot into the air and, astonishingly, transformed into a colossal white dragon of solid ice. It opened its cavernous maw and chomped down on the giant ice palm with a thunderous roar.
The man in black’s expression changed in shock. Before he could react, the ice dragon had already clamped its jaws around the True Essence Hand. At the same time, its claws ripped through the air, instantly shredding the hand into chunks of shattered ice.
Huge chunks of ice plummeted from the sky, smashing the houses below into ruins.
After shattering the giant palm, the ice dragon’s momentum didn’t falter. Its body snaked forward, circling the man in black before diving down, its jaws aiming to tear him apart.
"A Dragon-shaped Divine Weapon?"
The men in black were horrified. Their leader, Yanxing, yelled, "Don’t fight him head-on! Retreat!"
No sooner had the words been spoken than the man in black was repeatedly summoning True Essence Hands to block the dragon’s jaws and claws, his figure rapidly retreating.
In a single exchange, the same man in black who had forced all the sects to unite and fight with their full strength was now fleeing in a panic, seeking to escape the brunt of the attack.
The Sect Leaders and Elders were both shocked and overjoyed. They were shocked by how powerful Zhao Rui was.
And they were overjoyed that such powerful reinforcements had arrived.
Only Feihong and the others from the Kongtong Sect wore slightly strange expressions, as the longsword in Zhao Rui’s hand looked somewhat familiar.
Not just somewhat familiar—it was *especially* familiar.
But their longswords certainly didn’t possess this ability to transform into an Ice Giant Dragon.
This left them momentarily unable to determine just what kind of sword Zhao Rui was wielding.
On the battlefield, Zhao Rui didn’t stop his assault just because one man retreated. The great dragon’s fearsome claws and fangs continued to press the attack against the other men in black.
As Zhao Rui moved, the great dragon coiled around him. Man and dragon moved as one, enveloping all the men in black within the scope of his Sword Techniques.
Such a ferocious Ice Giant Dragon made the men in black pale with fright. One after another, they unleashed their Dharma Divine Techniques to resist its assault.
"Get out of the way!"
Seeing Zhao Rui single-handedly entangle all the other men in black, Yanxing’s expression changed dramatically. After his sharp cry, his hands flew through a series of gestures, and he suddenly launched a giant palm strike of astonishing cold toward Zhao Rui.
Hearing him, the other men in black each took a direct hit from Zhao Rui to disengage, withdrawing from the ice dragon’s onslaught.
"Well-timed!"
Zhao Rui’s eyes flashed. He pushed his Snowy Frost Palm to its absolute limit and launched a palm strike of his own.
Two identical blasts of Extreme Cold Palm Force, each carrying a boundless chill that seemed capable of freezing time and space, slammed into each other with a deafening crash.
With a sharp CRACK, Yanxing’s Frost Palm shattered. The immense impact sent him flying backward dozens of meters through the air before he barely managed to regain his footing.
"The Snowy Frost Palm?"
Yanxing stared at Zhao Rui, dumbfounded and in utter disbelief. It had always been his Ming King Palace that used others’ Martial Arts to humiliate them.
But today, someone had used their very own sect’s Martial Arts to do the same to them.
"Precisely."
His one move having proven effective, Zhao Rui stood proudly between the two factions, his calm gaze sweeping over the men in black opposite him.
The dozen or so men in black who had withdrawn from the battle had now gathered at Yanxing’s side, all of them staring warily at Zhao Rui.
Yanxing steadied himself, then stepped forward from his men with a grim expression. His gaze sharpened as he looked Zhao Rui up and down. Suddenly, his pupils widened slightly, and he spoke in a cold tone, "Are you Zhao Zhenren of the Qingcheng Sword Sect?"
"Oh? You recognize me? Am I that famous?"
Zhao Rui was momentarily stunned, then chuckled.
"I have heard of the Zhenren’s name even in the Great Zhou; it rings like thunder. A man who could escape from the Old Ancestor of the Yun Mansion is hardly a nobody."
Yanxing said with a solemn expression. ’As one of the powers within the Great Zhou, of course our Ming King Palace knew about Zhao Rui forcing his way into the Yun Mansion and escaping.’
’Judging from that exchange,’ he thought, ’his reputation is well-deserved.’
’I’m no match for him.’
’With an expert of his caliber here, our plan to disrupt the Central Plains Martial Arts world is completely ruined.’
"It’s just an undeserved reputation, nothing worth mentioning," Zhao Rui said. "And who might you be? We of the Central Plains Martial Arts community are holding a meeting. What business is it of yours?"
With a casual gesture from Zhao Rui, the Ice Giant Dragon instantly reverted to a longsword and landed in his hand.
This scene made the watching experts from the various sects burn with envy. There were many Divine Weapons in the Jianghu, with those of Mount Emei and the Kongtong Sect being particularly famous.
However, very few people could ever possess one. Most of these Divine Weapons were the culmination of a sect’s painstaking effort and resources; both their materials and forging techniques were top secrets.
Any that made their way into the world were held by the top experts of the various sects.
But even these were naturally a notch below the ultimate treasures that guarded Mount Emei and the Kongtong Sect.
Yet judging by its power, the Divine Sword in Zhao Rui’s hand was in no way inferior to the Divine Weapons of those two great sects—it might even surpass them.
"Senior Brother, that sword..."
Feiya Zi of the Kongtong Sect leaned in and whispered to his senior brother, Feihongzi.
Feihongzi raised a hand slightly to cut him off. ’During an invasion by outsiders,’ he thought, ’such matters can wait until this is over.’
’With a great enemy before us, we must present a united front.’
Back in the center of the field, Yanxing shook his head and said, "I am from the Great Snow Mountain Ming King Palace, under the Great Zhou Dynasty. As for what business this is of ours... when two armies are at war, is there any need to discuss grudges? The Zhenren’s words are a bit naive."
"Oh? If this is two armies at war, then that makes things simple."
Zhao Rui smiled faintly, then turned his head to Zen Master Huikong of Shaolin Temple. "Zen Master, you see? He said it himself: this is two armies at war, a battle to the death. So why are you still holding back? Let’s make sure none of them leave. Or are we going to let them run home in time for the holidays?"
