Chapter 532 - 263: Devouring the Bright Divine Power
After the match, Zhao Rui didn’t collect his reward. Instead, he returned directly to the base, to his designated rest area.
Many other contestants were waiting for their matches. Through the transparent glass pods, Zhao Rui could feel their wary gazes on him.
Clearly, his victory had marked him as a dangerous individual in their eyes.
"This is a world for the strong. Win one match, and they’ll provoke you. But if you win ten, you’ll see fear in their eyes. Keke!"
The Big-Headed Freak chuckled, extending a small, tentacle-like arm to point at the contestants in their glass pods. He then grinned smugly and said,
"You’re a smart one. They all learned their lesson the hard way! Of course, you’re an unlucky guy yourself, ending up in my arena. Here, you can get in, but you can’t get out. Unless... you can manage twenty wins!"
"Enjoy the show! I hope you make it far."
The Big-Headed Freak led him to an empty glass pod, then turned and swaggered away, completely unconcerned that Zhao Rui might try to escape or cause trouble.
Not knowing the Big-Headed Freak’s origins or true power, Zhao Rui calmly settled in and began to quietly watch the other contestants’ matches.
Soon, the second match began, featuring two long-haired, gorilla-like humanoids.
They could transform their bodies, turning into colossal beasts. However, their Innate physical forms had limitations; they needed solid ground, provided by the Big-Headed Freak, to battle.
So their battle was arranged to take place on an asteroid.
A group of massive beasts actually appeared, moved an asteroid from the distant starry sky, and placed it in the center of the fighting arena.
The spectators who had just vanished reappeared before Zhao Rui’s eyes.
Observing them up close this time, Zhao Rui finally understood why they would suddenly vanish and then reappear.
They weren’t physical entities at all, but holographic projections.
They were all spectators from Star Realms countless light-years away, linked to this place through some special method to become the audience.
Zhao Rui was utterly astounded. ’Just how vast is the universe? How many unknown regions does it hold?’
Before Zhao Rui could dwell on it, the battle on the asteroid had already begun.
According to the Big-Headed Freak’s introduction, the two creatures were mortal enemies from the same planet, born for the sole purpose of fighting one another.
Evidently, the Big-Headed Freak had used some means to capture both of them at the same time.
The two beasts were several times larger than even the biggest Nine-Orifice Soul-Devouring Worms on Blue Star. If they were on Blue Star, their heads would touch the heavens while their feet stood upon the earth.
The asteroid was by no means small, measuring at least one-tenth the size of the moon.
The two beasts leaped and tore at each other across its surface. Blood flowed freely as the celestial body itself began to crack and shatter. Chunks of rock were sent flying, becoming meteoroids that shot off into the cosmos.
The battle raged for a full three hours before a victor was decided.
One of the beasts had its throat torn out by the other, its body becoming a floating corpse in the void of space.
The victorious beast roared in triumph and leaped into a Star Gate that the Big-Headed Freak had opened for it.
The Exotic Beast went in quickly and came out just as fast. It emerged in what seemed like the blink of an eye.
But when it emerged, it was noticeably different; the aura around its body felt much denser.
’Could there be a time dilation effect inside the Star Gate?’
Zhao Rui’s brows furrowed deeply.
He had no time to ponder it further. After the beast returned, the third match began. This time, the combatant was none other than the Bright Race Person who had been captured along with Zhao Rui.
His wing injuries had already healed, and he was now flapping them as he flew into the center of the arena.
His opponent was a burly, muscular humanoid with a single horn atop a head that looked rather bovine.
"The Bright Race People... such a holy and magnificent race. How fortunate that I was able to catch one. I’m sure you’ll all enjoy this."
"Oh, and of course, don’t tell that detestable Bright God. Otherwise, there won’t be any more shows for you to watch."
The Big-Headed Freak said with a wide grin. Though his words hinted at a fear of the Bright God, his demeanor suggested he wasn’t concerned in the slightest.
Hearing the Big-Headed Freak’s words, the Bright Race Person immediately began to silently chant a Bright Spell. A brilliant light erupted around him as streams of Divine Thought radiated from his body, crossing the vastness of space to vanish into some unknown region.
"Hey now, why are you summoning the Bright God? Such a troublesome fellow."
A fearful smile touched the Big-Headed Freak’s lips. With a flicker, his body vanished from the arena.
He reappeared in an instant, now thousands of miles away.
"Take out this disobedient Bright Race Person for me! The reward is doubled!"
The Big-Headed Freak cackled, signaling the bull-headed creature to kill the Bright Race Person.
Upon hearing this, the bull-headed creature didn’t even wait for the Celestial Demon Sound that signaled the start of the match. He strode through the void toward the Bright Race Person, reaching out a massive hand to grab him.
"Bright Divine Power, gather unto me and purify all the evils of this world!"
As the Bright Race Person finished his Spell, a beam of white light shot across hundreds of millions of kilometers to descend upon him, entering his body.
"Do you know of your sins? I shall judge you in the name of justice!"
The Bright Race Person waved his right hand. A scepter of light materialized in his grasp, and he flew toward the bull-headed creature to strike.
The two instantly clashed in the void, white light and dark energy intertwining. Though the desolate starry sky was silent, the force of their collisions could be felt with every impact.
The terrifying power of their attacks was far greater than that of the two giant apes from the previous match.
The two giant apes had battled with pure physical strength, but these two were already wielding a measure of Divine Power.
"Impossible! How are you so strong?! My power is fading!"
After only a short exchange, the bull-headed creature was clearly outmatched. Blood streamed from his body as he hastily retreated.
The Bright Race Person pressed his advantage and, within a few more exchanges, defeated the bull-headed creature.
The bull-headed creature staggered away, fleeing the battlefield.
"Oh, what powerful light! Congratulations on your victory!"
The Big-Headed Freak strode into the arena, congratulating the Bright Race Person on his victory.
The Bright Race Person was overjoyed. The Divine Power suffusing his body dissipated, and the beam of white light ascended, shooting back in the direction from which it had come.
"Haha! And away it goes!"
At that moment, something unexpected happened. An afterimage shot out from the Big-Headed Freak’s body, moving so fast that it caught up with the beam of white light in the blink of an eye.
"You dare! AGH! You dare to siphon my Bright Divine Power! You will regret this!"
A furious roar that shook the cosmos echoed from the distance. The intense and resentful fluctuation of this Divine Soul sent a chill through Zhao Rui.
’Although I could probably defeat the Bright Race Person easily, this spiritual fluctuation is clearly different from the power he wielded.’
’It’s far more powerful, far purer.’
’Could this be the very source of the Bright Divine Power?’
Zhao Rui couldn’t figure it out. He didn’t dare attempt to use the Bright Race’s Cultivation Technique, so he had no way of knowing the true origin of this power.
But one thing was certain: the Big-Headed Freak had used the Bright Race Person’s summons to achieve his own ends.
The Bright Race Person in the arena heard the furious roar of the god he worshipped. His face turned deathly pale, and he began to fall through the void.
The Spiritual Power around him destabilized, and he could no longer maintain his flight in the void.
Just then, a female Bright Race Person who shared his features flew out from the base, catching him securely and carrying him back.
At the same time, the Big-Headed Freak’s afterimage returned, looking utterly satisfied.
After merging back into the Big-Headed Freak’s true body, he couldn’t help but lick his lips.
He had clearly enjoyed his recent meal.
"Just a small incident, everyone, don’t mind it. Tsk tsk! We’ll have a brief intermission. Don’t get antsy, the exciting matches will resume shortly."
The Big-Headed Freak chuckled, wobbling his oversized head as he swaggered through the void and back to the base.
