Furthermore, most of the Gold Root Beasts in the Golden Root Source World acted on pure instinct, lacking true intelligence. Only a Gold Root Beast that surpassed Level 7 could awaken to sapience.

The Wood Root Elves, however, were completely different. Even the lowest-level ones, like this Level 1 Wood Root Elf before him, possessed normal intelligence.

"What is it?"

Xu Qing snapped back to his senses. He was surprised but suppressed the feeling, not letting it show on his face as he asked in a calm tone.

"I need your help,"

the Level 1 Wood Root Elf said directly.

"Why should I help you?"

Xu Qing shook his head. "Or, to put it another way, what’s in it for me?"

"If you help me, I can give you what you want,"

the Level 1 Wood Root Elf said.

"And what is that?"

Xu Qing asked.

"A Wood Root Source World Token Fragment,"

the Level 1 Wood Root Elf replied.

"Oh?"

Xu Qing raised an eyebrow. "How do you know I need a Wood Root Source World Token Fragment?"

"The Supreme Sovereign told us,"

the Level 1 Wood Root Elf said.

Xu Qing mulled it over. ’The Supreme Sovereign...’

"Yes."

The Level 1 Wood Root Elf nodded and continued, "One thousand years ago, the Life Ancestor Tree was tainted by an unknown corruption."

"For a thousand years, the Life Ancestor Tree’s aura has been weakening. It can no longer nurture new Wood Root Elves and is slowly decaying, inching closer to death."

The Level 1 Wood Root Elf continued, "So, we need ’Purifying Water.’ Only by continuously irrigating the Life Ancestor Tree with ’Purifying Water’ can we wash away its corruption and restore its vitality."

’Purifying Water.’

Xu Qing’s expression was thoughtful. "So, you’re asking me to get you ’Purifying Water’?"

"Yes."

The Level 1 Wood Root Elf nodded and continued, "Because ’Purifying Water’ isn’t found in the Natural Forest. It’s in the Sea of Life."

"You must travel to the Sea of Life to find ’Purifying Water’."

"Furthermore, ’Purifying Water’ can only be found within tainted Wood Root Sea Demon Beasts. One liter of ’Purifying Water’ can be exchanged for a single Token Fragment."

"I do need the fragment you mentioned."

Xu Qing nodded, but then continued, "But aren’t you afraid I’ll just kill you right now and take the fragment I want from you?"

The Level 1 Wood Root Elf shook her head. "First of all, I don’t have what you want on my person. And if you were to kill me, you would be cursed by the Wood Root Elf Race. We would hunt you for all eternity."

"From that point on, you could never hope to obtain a Fragment of the Wood Root Source World Token from the Wood Root Elf Race, and you would never achieve your goal."

A beautiful smile blossomed on the Level 1 Wood Root Elf’s exquisite face. She took a jade-green token from within her robes and respectfully handed it to Xu Qing.

"Respected Outsider, from this day forward, you have the friendship of the Wood Root Elf Race. This is a symbol of that friendship, the Wood Root Elf Race Token. With it, you can summon us anytime within the World of Wood Origin."

"When you obtain the ’Purifying Water,’ you can use this token to contact us."

"Alright."

Xu Qing nodded and accepted the token.

"Farewell, Respected Outsider."

As her voice faded, the Level 1 Wood Root Elf vanished into thin air.
