Chapter 3997 - 3985: Transaction in the Shadows
The two of them made some simple preparations and headed out.
Before leaving, Lin Yi said to the members of this team:
"While I’m gone, you follow Team Leader Qiu’s orders and fully cooperate with Team Two’s investigation."
"Yes!" everyone responded.
After that, Lin Yi leaned in and whispered a few words in Qiu Yuluo’s ear; no one else knew what he said.
Once the follow-up arrangements were made, Lin Yi and Zhao Yunhu left.
After they went out, the two got in the car and drove to the Dabai River Reservoir.
The place was rarely visited, and the shaded side was still undeveloped.
Compared to Anglo’s transaction site, this place was undoubtedly much more hidden.
"Once we send out this Sheepskin Scroll, that’ll make two; our plan can be considered half successful."
Although it hadn’t been confirmed, the people from both teams had basically decided that the party coming to trade was Mammon.
No other organization had that kind of nerve or was that crazy.
Lin Yi nodded. "As for the rest, whether we can get them out depends on our luck."
"But I think today’s situation will be similar to yesterday’s," Zhao Yunhu shared his own take:
"Mammon isn’t here to kill people. They just want the Sheepskin Scroll. Once they get what they came for, there’s a good chance they’ll leave. No need to go out of their way to kill anyone, which makes the point of us being here pretty small."
Lin Yi planned to get involved because he believed something unexpected might happen, giving him a chance to move in the chaos.
But what Zhao Yunhu said was also very likely.
If this deal played out like yesterday’s, they might not find an opening.
"When I left, I told Team Leader Qiu that if this transaction goes smoothly, she should take people in for a sudden assault, scatter their formation, and create an opportunity for us."
"Boss, that’s badass."
"All right, let’s first feel out the terrain and send the intel back to Team Leader Qiu, so it’ll be easier when they make their move."
"Got it."
The two drove around the transaction site, circled it once, collected detailed information, and sent it all to Qiu Yuluo.
After their terrain recon, Lin Yi sat in the car, working out an action plan with Qiu Yuluo and preparing for what was to come.
Just then, they saw red-and-blue lights flashing in the distance.
Zhao Yunhu picked up the binoculars, watched the situation off in the distance, and muttered:
"What the hell is that? Looks like police cars, and judging by the posture, quite a few of them."
Lin Yi’s eyesight was frightening; even without binoculars, he could clearly make out what was happening far away.
"Pretty sure those are police cars."
"Huh, the lights all just went off."
"They’re probably starting their deployment," Lin Yi said:
"The hostage is Zhao Yonghe. To rescue him, Corea’s authorities are bound to act and station more forces here."
"I don’t think these people have realized how serious this is," Zhao Yunhu said with a laugh.
"People here have this blind confidence, nothing you can do about it," Lin Yi said, taking some schadenfreude.
"Mammon isn’t some pushover. With the authorities pulling this kind of stunt, there’s going to be a show later."
"Exactly, so we shouldn’t hang around here either. Let’s head back, pack up, and get ready to enjoy the show."
"You got it."
Zhao Yunhu drove off.
Ring ring ring—
On the way back, Song Zhongtian called.
"Same place as yesterday. I’ll be waiting there in half an hour."
Lin Yi looked at his watch. It was already past six in the evening; he didn’t have much time.
"Okay."
After hanging up, Lin Yi used his phone to set a destination for Zhao Yunhu, and the two headed to yesterday’s transaction site.
By the time they arrived, Song Zhongtian was already there.
Ring ring ring—
Just as Lin Yi was about to pull up next to him, his phone rang again—it was still Song Zhongtian.
"Don’t park next to my car. Drive forward another 200 meters to a fork in the road. Leave your car there and walk back. There’s a factory here; I’ll be waiting inside."
When he heard this, Lin Yi frowned hard.
"You’d better not try anything slick."
"Relax, I know who I should trust now. Hurry up, I’ve got to get back soon, can’t waste time here."
"Mm."
After hanging up, Zhao Yunhu’s expression grew serious too.
"Boss, is that bastard trying to set you up?"
"Unlikely."
Sitting in the car, Lin Yi scanned the surroundings. "After what happened last night, he should know who he ought to trust."
"The problem is, pulling a move like this means we can’t afford not to be on guard."
"My guess is they’ve got internal trouble," Lin Yi said quietly:
"Cui Mingzhe has taken over the Angry Sea Organization. Even if Cui Shengguo wants the reins back, Cui Mingzhe might not hand them over. To consolidate his own power, he’ll definitely look for ways to wipe out Song Zhongtian’s group. I figure Song Zhongtian’s realized that."
Lin Yi stretched a bit and went on:
"The situation in front of us isn’t promising; we need to get ready fast too."
"I’ll go with you."
"No need. You stay here and cover me. If anything goes wrong, I’m counting on you to get me out."
"Just don’t try to play hero on your own. If something happens, you have to contact me. Otherwise, once we’re back, the others will have my hide."
"Don’t worry."
With that reminder, Lin Yi got out of the car and disappeared into the darkness.
Moving quickly, Lin Yi reached the factory Song Zhongtian had mentioned.
Even though it was pitch black around him, for Lin Yi that was no problem.
His night vision let him move in the dark without any handicap.
Judging from the equipment inside, it had most likely been a slaughterhouse in the past.
But it must have gone under many years ago; even the bones on the ground had weathered away.
Just then, a beam from a flashlight flickered through the darkness.
"No one around. Come out."
Hearing Lin Yi’s words, Song Zhongtian stepped out of the shadows, holding a black bag in his hand.
"Something happen on your side?" Lin Yi asked.
Song Zhongtian nodded. "Cui Mingzhe has started to suspect me, so I need to be careful. We should keep our contact to a minimum from now on."
"What about Cui Shengguo? He’s already back. He couldn’t take back control of Angry Sea?" Song Zhongtian said:
"Maybe this incident made Cui Xiaodong lose faith in him. He tried to fight for it but got no response."
"Looks like Cui Xiaodong’s ready to abandon this son for good."
"That’s how I see it too," Song Zhongtian said:
"Cui Mingzhe is even more radical than Cui Shengguo, so I need to be extra cautious with my moves right now, to avoid drawing his attention."
"No, no, no. No matter how careful you are, he’s going to come after you."
