I Got Reincarnated as a Zombie Girl

Chapter 508 - 505 – THE GODDESS OF DEATH’S TRIAL AND SEPARATED PATHS OF EVOLUTION

The zombie horse carriage carrying Sylvia, Alicia, and Stacia cut through the thick Underworld fog at lightning speed. The further they drove away from the outskirts of the Ashen Wastes, the scenery around them began to change from a wild barren plain into a grand gothic civilization unimaginable to the common sense of mortal creatures.

In the distance, giant obsidian towers pierced the purplish-red sky like upside-down swords. The River Styx flowed, dividing the city; its water did not reflect light, but instead emitted a pale green fire glow from millions of souls swimming within it. The buildings in that city were constructed from a blend of black volcanic rock and pale white marble resembling bone, creating an aesthetic of graceful darkness. This was Erebos, the capital center of the Underworld, the throne of eternal power belonging to the Goddess of Death.

However, contrary to the three girls’ expectations, Persephone did not direct the horse carriage toward the main gate of the Castle of Death soaring majestically in the city center at all. Instead of taking them to the banquet hall to enjoy the clear broth and seafood dishes that had been promised, the carriage suddenly stopped at a large, empty circular plaza on the outskirts of the capital. The floor of the plaza was decorated with giant rune carvings glowing faintly.

Sylvia pulled the reins, looking around with a furrowed brow. "Mother? Isn’t your castle still ahead there? Why did we stop here?"

Persephone stepped down from the carriage with a mysterious smile gracing her blood-red lips. Her black dress fluttered softly in the miasma wind. "The dinner party is indeed waiting, my daughter. But in my kingdom, no reward is given without achievement. Before you sit at my dining table and enjoy heavenly dishes, there is a small welcoming process you must pass through."

Alicia and Stacia stepped down as well, looking at their adoptive mother inquisitively.

"Evolution and growth of strength do not happen at the dining table," Persephone continued, her tone of voice now changing from a gentle mother to a firm absolute ruler. "The three of you have extraordinary potential, but that potential will become dull if you keep relying on each other in every battle. Therefore, starting this second, I will separate you."

Persephone raised both of her graceful hands. The air in the plaza instantly trembled violently. With god-level space and time manipulation, the empty space before them tore into three parts, forming three different dimensional portals.

The first portal emitted a very soft and calming bluish light, accompanied by faint chanting of a formless choir. The second portal smelled of ancient dust, parchment paper, and magical ink, emitting a very thick academic aura. Meanwhile, the third portal... the third portal boiled with blood-red and pitch-black colors, spewing a murderous aura, monster roars, and an extraordinarily brutal fishy odor.

Persephone turned to her eldest daughter. "Dear Alicia, enter the first portal. That portal will take you to the Primordial Spirit Realm, a mirror dimension within the Underworld where ancient souls and nature spirits gather. Your task is not to fight to destroy them, but to dominate, subdue, and lead them. Be a Queen there. Hone your spiritual authority until not a single spirit dares to oppose your decree."

Alicia looked at the blue portal. Her spirit form resonated strongly with the energy from within. Smiling serenely and bowing respectfully, she answered, "As you wish, Mother. I will not disappoint you." Without hesitation, Alicia stepped inside and her figure disappeared, swallowed by the blue light.

Next, Persephone turned toward Stacia. However, before the goddess could speak, the dark silver-haired girl’s eyes were already shining brightly like a super-nova star. Her nose flared sniffing the scent of ancient books from the second portal. Imaginary saliva nearly dripped from the corner of her lips.

"Books! Ancient scrolls! Inscriptions! The smell of unresolved history!" Stacia muttered at an abnormal speed, her body trembling with academic hysteria. Her Fallen Angel wings flapped wildly.

Seeing her youngest daughter’s magic-addict behavior, Persephone could only shake her head slowly while sighing. "That is the Grand Library of Tartarus, the place where all books, historical records, magic scrolls, and technology from various eras passed by Earth and surrounding dimensions are stored. From the Genesis Era to the destruction of the fusion world, everything is there..."

Before Persephone finished explaining, Stacia was already preparing to jump in. However, Persephone quickly snapped her fingers, creating a shadow hand that directly grabbed the back collar of Stacia’s shirt, lifting the girl into the air.

"Your task is to absorb the essence of knowledge from the Era of Chaos, Stacia. Don’t just read it for pleasure!" Persephone warned. After that, with a single casual motion, Persephone literally threw Stacia’s body into the portal like throwing a sack of rice. Stacia’s joyful screams echoed before the second portal closed tightly.

Now only Sylvia was left alone in the plaza. She stared at the third portal which kept boiling wildly. The ferocious roars from within made her dead blood boil with anticipation.

"And for you, my beloved daughter," Persephone said while stroking Sylvia’s pale cheek. "That portal leads to the Abyssal Chasm, the bottom of the Tartarus abyss. It is the most brutal ecosystem in the Underworld, a place where monsters too ferocious to be controlled are discarded and prey upon each other. Go. Slaughter them, absorb their power, and fulfill your evolution requirements. Do not return until your level hits the limit you desire."

Sylvia grinned widely, showing her small fangs. Pitch-black death aura instantly exploded from her body. "Thank you for the appetizer, Mother." Without much ado, Sylvia leaped into the hell portal, ready to create a massacre.

As soon as her three daughters entered their respective trial paths, Persephone turned around. Her body instantly faded into black mist and teleported directly into the throne room of the Castle of Death.

The room was vast, dominated by giant bone pillars and burgundy rugs. Persephone walked gracefully up the obsidian stairs to her throne made of dark crystal and primordial dragon skulls. She sat down, leaning her back relaxedly. With a graceful wave of her hand, a golden chalice manifested in her hand, filled with fresh and cold pure pomegranate juice, an elegant drink without a single drop of alcohol content, matching the preference always maintained in her family environment.

Persephone snapped her fingers into empty air. Instantly, three semi-transparent blue magic screens appeared floating before her. The three screens displayed live broadcasts of her three daughters’ locations.

The first screen showed Alicia radiating holy golden light, facing thousands of ancient spirits taking the form of transparent knights and dragons. With a soft smile yet absolute authority, Alicia forced those wild spirits to kneel one by one merely through her spiritual pressure.

The second screen showed a funny chaos. Stacia was drowning in an ocean of books towering like a mountain. The girl used her wings to fly from one bookshelf to another hundreds of meters high, reading ten books simultaneously using shadow manipulation, completely isolated from the outside world.

However, Persephone’s attention was most fixed on the third screen. The screen displaying the most brutal massacre show.

BOOOMM!

Sylvia landed heavily on completely barren ground. As soon as her eyes opened, she was greeted by a strange landscape. This place had no colors. Everything consisted of black shadows, deep gray, and dim white as if she stepped into a monochrome painting drawn with thick charcoal on a giant canvas. The sky was as dark as ink, and the ground was cracked charcoal rock.

There was no time to admire the aesthetics of the place. As soon as Sylvia’s feet touched the ground, hundreds, even thousands of pairs of glowing red eyes simultaneously stared at her from all directions behind the gray fog.

They were not monsters with logical anatomical shapes. They were manifestations of despair, anger, and Underworld brutality. There were monsters taking the form of giant wolves with six legs and no skin, displaying pulsating black muscles. There were bone-winged gargoyles dripping corrosive acid. There were blobs of shadow flesh possessing dozens of jaws full of sharp jagged fangs. All these monsters shared one similarity: their levels were above 250, and they were very hungry.

GRAAAARRRRGH!

Thousands of monsters lunged forward simultaneously like a black tsunami wave wanting to swallow Sylvia alive.

"Let’s see how much EXP you can give," Sylvia hissed. Her eyes flashed blood red, the only bright color in this monochrome world.

"Chains of Abyss: Unleash!"

From the shadow beneath the soles of her feet, hundreds of obsidian chains exploded like rampaging dragon pillars. The sound of metal friction echoed deafeningly. Sylvia did not defend; she attacked brutally. With a single swing of her hand, dozens of chains swept forward like a giant whip, striking the front line of skinless wolf monsters.

CRASH! SPLAT!

The destructive power of the death affinity buffed by the Underworld environment made the chains weigh thousands of tons. The front line of monsters instantly shattered into black flesh mush and bone fragments.

However, these monsters knew no fear. Bone gargoyles swooped down from above, spewing black acid. Sylvia dashed from her position, her speed leaving an afterimage. She leaped into the air, letting the acid miss and melt the ground.

In the air, Sylvia’s ten fingers elongated, forming sharp claws wrapped in dangerously flickering Dark Matter energy. She swooped down, plunging her claws directly into the skull of one of the giant gargoyle monsters.

SRRAAAKK!

Sylvia ripped the creature’s skull into two parts with her bare hands, her movements extremely wild and unmatched. Black blood spurted, but not a single drop stained her dress. She used the gargoyle’s corpse as a foothold, jumping again into the crowd of flesh-blob monsters.

Sylvia merged her chains in the air, forming a thick structure resembling a giant cannon spear, then thrust it into the center of the monster’s mass and unleashed an extraordinarily powerful death element explosion. That explosion destroyed dozens of monsters within a fifty-meter radius.

[Milling ’Abyssal Dire Wolf’ Lv 265. Gaining 9,500,000 EXP.]

[Milling ’Bone Gargoyle’ Lv 270. Gaining 10,200,000 EXP.]

[Milling ’Flesh Horror’ Lv 280. Gaining 12,000,000 EXP.]

Rows of system notifications kept flowing rapidly at the corner of Sylvia’s eyes. This was a perfect farming field. But, amidst the brutality and adrenaline of the battle, there was one thing that made Sylvia feel extremely annoyed. These monsters could not be turned into zombies.

Seeing that, Sylvia’s eyes twitched slightly in annoyance. Hundreds of her chains kept whipping and tearing apart the next wave of monsters, while she landed on top of a black rock.

It’s a pity these monsters can’t be turned into zombies, Sylvia grumbled inwardly, clicking her tongue in disappointment. If only the corpses of these Level 250+ monsters could be resurrected, she would surely have an undefeated death army to bring back to the surface world.

"Well then..." Sylvia muttered, her voice turning as cold as the North Pole. If she couldn’t make them subordinates, then she only needed to ensure not a single one of these annoying creatures was left to breathe. "I will eat all your EXP without a remainder!"

Sylvia spread both arms. The ground shook violently. This time, not just hundreds, but thousands of Abyss Chains shot out from her shadow, forming a giant execution dome covering the monochrome sky above the valley. Those chains grew dead jagged blades.

In the throne room, Persephone who watched that scene from her blue screen could only smile widely. She sipped her pomegranate juice elegantly.

"Dinner can wait a little longer. Have fun, my daughter.
