Chapter 537 - 534 – COSMIC VOID, WAR PREPARATIONS, AND THE BIRTH OF THE ECLIPSE CLASS
Meanwhile, thousands of kilometers from the waters of Nocture, far into the depths of the ocean beyond the Death Storm Wall.
At the bottom of a pitch-black trench, where water pressure could crush diamonds into dust, an extremely massive ancient entity stirred. The length of its body could not be measured by mortal standards stretching for miles, coiled in scales as hard as fallen stars, with a pair of ice-blue glowing eyes the size of a small metropolitan city. It was Jormungandr, the World Serpent, one of the few remaining Nordic divinities awakened by this planet’s fusion.
The Serpent that had been sleeping soundly suddenly jerked. The water around it boiled from the abrupt change in its body temperature.
A very strange coldness crawled along its astral spine. It was not the cold of ice, but a pure, absolute, and inevitable chill. It was the primal instinct of universal law warning any entity of the arrival of an end.
The World Serpent opened its eyes wide, staring south through the trench’s darkness, sensing a terrifying existence beyond the storm that had just set the fate of these seas. Death, for the first time in the Serpent’s eternity, felt extremely close.
Yet this was not the sensation of "death" it knew from old mythology. This was not the realm of ice of Niflheim or the gloomy authority of Hel. The aura seeping through the storm wall felt... wrong. To the World Serpent, this anomaly radiated a darkness that could not be comprehended by reason at all. It felt like a cosmic void, an ancient eldritch existence from beyond the stars that regarded reality and the laws of nature as mere illusions. A bottomless abyss of madness ready to swallow the ocean along with its gods.
"Who... or what is staring at this ocean?" Jormungandr murmured in the ancient language of divinity, its voice creating seismic shockwaves that leveled the underwater mountains around it.
It did not dare act rashly. With a single pulse of mana waves from its massive brain, the World Serpent sent absolute commands throughout the northern waters. Millions of deep-sea mutants, ice Leviathans, and many-eyed Krakens that served under it halted their activities. They were forced to stand ready, waiting for the arrival of the foreign entity prepared to tear the sky and the sea.
On the other side of the ocean, in the far warmer western waters filled with eternal thunder storms, a different reaction occurred.
In the middle of the ruins of a seafloor city resembling Atlantis corrupted by miasma, a three-eyed humanoid giant sat upon a coral throne. It held a cracked giant Trident that radiated endless blue electricity. This was a mutant entity that had swallowed the remnants of Poseidon’s divinity after the apocalyptic fusion—the new King of the Storm Seas.
Unlike the highly vigilant and wise Jormungandr, this Sea King sensed the anomaly from the Death Storm Wall as an open challenge.
"There is a foreign energy that dares touch the borders of my territory," the Sea King growled, his voice thundering like lightning. He slammed his Trident into the coral floor. "A small faction from that filthy continent across the way dares provoke the storm? Send the Scylla forces and a thousand Dragon Sharks. If anyone dares pierce that storm, destroy their ships and bring the bones of their leader before me!"
The ancient gods and new rulers of the seas had reacted. They did not know that the entity they were waiting for was not a hero or ordinary mortal race, but a mechanical and magical catastrophe driven by a very simple hunger.
In the City of Nocture, time was no longer counted by the sun or moon, but by the progress bar of fleet completion.
The one month given by Sylvia was not a deadline; it was absolute law that could not be violated. If humans from the pre-apocalypse era had witnessed what happened at Nocture’s shipyards over the last thirty days, they would have regarded it as both a miracle and a logistical nightmare.
Zark, the Undead General, nearly burned his own soul core to maximize synchronization with the millions of zombie workers. Under his command, the zombies moved with machine-like efficiency. Not a single second was wasted. When one group of zombies collapsed from magical exhaustion or their bodies melted from the extreme temperatures of the Dwarf furnaces, a new group immediately replaced them without pause.
The Dwarves themselves were in a trance state. Stacia routinely injected them with high-dose stamina recovery potions and alchemical buffs so they would not need to sleep. The metallurgy workshops burned brighter than the midday sun, melting millions of tons of miasma iron ore, meteor dust, and low-level dragon bones to forge Black Star Steel.
And now, at the end of the thirtieth day, the masterpiece was finally complete.
Sylvia stood on the castle balcony that faced directly toward the port, accompanied by Sofia, Celes, and Aurellia. The sea wind swept through her black hair, while her pair of heterochromia eyes radiated deep satisfaction.
At the docks that had been expanded many times over, twenty previously tested 150-meter cruiser ships were moored. Yet they were not the main stars.
In the middle of that formation rested five giant metal monsters that made the cruiser ships look like toy boats. These were the Main Dreadnought Ships, named by Stacia the Eclipse Class.
Each ship reached 500 meters in length, with a width of more than 80 meters. Their hulls were completely sealed by Black Star Steel plating two meters thick, specially designed with sharp angles to slice through giant waves and deflect even Rank 7 sea monster physical attacks.
Unlike ordinary ships, these Dreadnoughts did not have wide open decks where crews could relax. The entire upper section of the ships was protected by a steel shell that could open hydraulically. When that shell opened, it would reveal dozens of giant artillery Mana Cannons, as well as secondary air-defense cannons designed to shoot down flying creatures.
At the rear of the ships, five reactor towers radiated bright blue light, indicating that the hearts of these vessels were powered by dozens of compressed Mana Crystals from Rank 6 sea monster cores they had hunted over the past month.
Stacia landed on the balcony beside Sylvia, her face covered in black oil stains and dark circles clearly visible under her eyes, yet her smile was so wide it nearly touched her ears.
"Five Eclipse-Class Dreadnought Ships and Twenty Hunter-Class Cruiser Ships, ready for launch, Your Majesty," Stacia reported, her voice hoarse yet full of pride. "To pierce the Death Storm Wall, I have integrated Storm-Repelling Shield Formations into every ship. These formations borrow principles from absolute earth and ice elemental magic, creating a kinetic dome that will split hurricane winds and neutralize magical lightning."
Sylvia nodded slowly. "Outstanding work, Stacia. You and the Dwarves will receive a well-deserved vacation... after we obtain enough fresh seafood ingredients."
Celes stepped forward one pace and tapped the hilt of her sword. "The elite High-Class Zombie troops and Skeleton Knights have been loaded onto the ships. We are ready to conduct seafloor landing operations or deck combat whenever necessary."
"Good," Sylvia turned and looked at each of her commanders’ faces one by one. "Those ancient gods have felt too comfortable in their territories for far too long. Today we are not merely hunting. We are expanding. If this ocean blocks our path, we will split it. Let’s depart."
One hour later, the deadliest fleet ever born in the new world released its anchors.
The humming sound of twenty-five mana crystal reactors activated simultaneously created a small-scale earthquake in the coastal region of Nocture. The seawater behind the fleet boiled instantly as the giant propellers began to turn, pushing millions of tons of steel through the ocean.
Sylvia was on the bridge of the foremost main Dreadnought—a ship she had named Abyssal Sovereign. This command room was far more advanced, filled with holographic crystal panels and served by hundreds of high-ranking zombie officers.
The fleet advanced in spear formation. The Abyssal Sovereign was at the tip, followed by the four other Dreadnoughts on the diagonal sides, and the twenty cruiser ships formed the rear line as fire support.
The 500-kilometer journey to the anomaly border was completed in less than half a day. Low- and mid-level sea monsters that happened to block their path were crushed without remains, ground by the propellers or rammed into blood mist by the heavy-class Black Star Steel bows. Not a single shot needed to be fired.
Toward evening, the sky suddenly turned pitch black. Not because the sun was setting, but because sunlight could not penetrate the giant miasma clouds ahead of them.
On the main projection screen in the command room, the Death Storm Wall towered like the end of the world itself. Walls of water, tornado winds, and red-black magical lightning struck ferociously. The roar was so loud it drowned out the sound of the ship engines. Hundred-meter-high waves looked like rows of giant moving mountains approaching, ready to swallow the Nocture fleet whole.
Aurellia, standing beside Sylvia, unconsciously swallowed. "Even my fire element would be extinguished instantly if we entered there without protection."
"Activate the Storm-Repelling Shields. Increase reactor output to 120%!" Stacia ordered through the internal communication channel connected to the entire fleet. "No one reduces speed! We will ram this storm with full momentum!"
"Acknowledged. Opening energy limiters!" the zombie captains from the various ships responded.
In an instant, golden and silver energy domes exploded from each ship, enveloping the giant steel hulls in extremely dense magical protective layers.
BAM! BAM! CRAAAACK!
The Nocture fleet rammed into the Storm Wall.
The kinetic collision between the fleet’s magic domes and the miasma storm wall created a blinding explosion of light. The Dreadnought ships weighing hundreds of thousands of tons trembled violently. Outside the domes, hundred-meter waves slammed, trying to crush the ships, while thousands of red lightning strikes continuously rained upon the shields, creating a deafening noise.
"Main shields are stable at 85%! Energy drain is very rapid, but the reactors are compensating!" one of the zombie navigators reported.
Sylvia stood upright amid the shaking, her eyes staring sharply forward through the reinforced command glass. "Keep advancing. This universe can rage as much as it likes, but it cannot stop my steps."
Under the push of engines that surpassed mortal limits, the Black Star Steel spear formation literally tore through the storm. Like a hot knife slicing through butter, the Nocture fleet split the ancient hurricane winds and giant waves, ignoring the laws of nature established by the sea gods.
For nearly a full hour they remained inside the darkness filled with elemental chaos. The ship hulls creaked softly under the pressure, but the Dwarves’ work proved impenetrable.
Until finally, a dim blue light began to appear at the end of the vortex.
WUSSSHHH!
The Abyssal Sovereign, followed by the rest of the fleet, exploded out of the Death Storm Wall. Residual storm energy was flung from their magical shields, fading into the air.
The shaking gradually stopped. The roar of the storm was left behind them, replaced by the very alien silence of the deep ocean.
They were now on the other side. The Outer Ocean. The domain of the Ancient Gods.
The seawater here was far clearer, radiating blue bioluminescence from the endless seafloor, yet the air felt a hundred times heavier from the pressure of pure divinity. The fleet’s magical radar immediately lit up brightly, filled with hundreds of massive red dots that were slowly moving to surround their position from various directions.
Sylvia walked forward and touched the command room glass, a wide, bloodthirsty grin carved onto her pale face.
"Ah," Sylvia exhaled with a tone filled with absolute satisfaction. "Look, Sofia. Look at our buffet menu coming to welcome us."
The war for dominion over the oceans of the new world officially began, and the hungry Queen of Death had just taken her seat at the dining table.
