Chapter 1347 - 1346: Heaven’s Thunder Punishes Sin
"Rumble rumble!"
In the dark clouds, violet light flickered faintly!
Between heaven and earth, thunder rolled again and again!
The next moment, in the eyes of the civilians far away watching from the military camp and the industrial park, countless golden bolts of lightning suddenly crashed down from the sky.
And in the vision of everyone on site, what suddenly appeared was a blinding sheet of golden light.
"Rumble rumble rumble rumble rumble..."
The endless thunder was so loud it was about to blow out the ears of the crowds under the sky, as if it was going to blast the heavens apart.
The officer who had just been standing by the window reciting poetry only felt a streak of gold flash before his eyes, and then knew nothing at all.
The soldiers farther away beside the officer’s office saw a thick bolt of lightning fall from the sky, shooting straight in through the window of the officer’s office.
"Boom!"
With a deafening bang, it seemed the whole officer’s office flared bright for an instant, and then flames suddenly burst out from inside, spewing from every opening.
The next moment, the entire office was swallowed by a sea of fire, including the officer, his secretary, and several of his personal bodyguards.
The soldiers nearby stared blankly at the blazing torch before their eyes; aside from the explosion just now and the roaring of the flames, they hadn’t heard a single cry for help.
"Rumble rumble..."
Of course, that officer was far from the only one in the camp. Almost every mid- and high-ranking officer’s location was struck by a bolt of thunder, which charred them and everything around them to cinders and turned their offices into infernos.
The sites of endless evil, naturally, were not spared either.
All the high-tech industrial parks in the Wa State area were bombarded by thunder.
"Crack crack... crack crack..."
It was the sound of windows shattering. Countless bolts of lightning fell straight from the sky, smashing the windows of the buildings to pieces; golden lightning spread, following metal, circuits, and even directly through the air, striking the people inside the buildings.
"What are you staring at? Get back to work!"
A brute with a thick gold chain around his neck walked to the window and grabbed the arm of a programmer who was looking up at the sky. "If the program doesn’t go online today, I’ll beat you to death..."
"Boom!"
"Crash!"
The glass shattered, and the programmer’s face—just now full of fear as he looked at the brute—changed in an instant to sheer terror.
Between life and death, under great horror, maybe a person’s thoughts speed up, making everything before their eyes turn into slow motion. Like this programmer: he had just turned his head, his gaze landing on the thug’s ferocious face, the words of pleading not yet out of his mouth, when the corner of his eye caught a sheet of golden light.
Then the window beside him exploded, and a chopstick-thin streak of golden lightning pierced through the broken glass, striking straight at the thug in front of him.
The programmer clearly saw that the expression on the thug’s face didn’t change at all—then the man’s body began to blacken at high speed, carbonizing at a rate visible to the naked eye, with faint sparks glowing within.
A loud bang rang in the programmer’s ears, and then he saw the thug topple over; by the time he hit the floor, the carbonization of his entire body was complete, and only then did his body and clothes begin to catch fire, little tongues of flame licking over him.
"Aaahhh!!!"
The next second, screams reached the programmer’s ears. Only then did he realize that more than one person was screaming—because the lightning hadn’t killed just this one thug in front of him.
The junior supervisor of this company and several of his henchmen beside him had all died under the lightning.
Everyone shrank back and retreated, huddling against the wall farthest from the windows. Even so, none of them dared step out of this office without cause.
They didn’t know that in other buildings in the park the same scene was playing out.
"Boom!"
Outside the livestreaming pit where the gambling tables were, the Steward and the thugs watching the venue had all been killed by thunder. The ones left alive were either the beautiful croupiers or some errand-boy lackeys, who were in fact also exploited workers of the park.
And when one lackey, eager to ingratiate himself, sprinted upstairs and arrived at the offices of several company supervisors, he found the windows there already shattered, and several supervisors who had just seemed to be on the phone were now sprawled over their desks, their bodies utterly charred.
"Aaahhh!!!"
The lackey stumbled back out of the room and heard women’s screams coming from upstairs. Then he saw three women, clothes disheveled and stained with filth, running down, panic written all over their faces.
"What happened? Don’t tell me..."
"Manager Lu was struck dead by lightning!" one woman shrieked as she ran past him, dashing into the office in front of him. "Hurry and tell Supervisor Wang and Supervisor Zho—aaahhh!"
The woman tumbled and scrambled back out of the office; obviously the two charred bodies inside had given her a brutal fright.
"They... they..."
"They’re all dead!" the lackey said blankly, mind reeling.
"All dead?"
"Manager Lu, Supervisor Wang, Supervisor Zhou, they’re all dead?" another woman asked in shock. "Then what about Supervisor Liu in Development, Supervisor Xue in Video, and Supervisor Xu in Customer Service?"
"I don’t know, no, um, Supervisor Xue in Video is, is dead too..." the lackey said dazedly. "And Brother Leopard, Brother Dao, Brother Dali, and Brother Hong, they’re all, all dead as well..."
"Huh?"
The three women and one man stared at each other, only now realizing that the ones dead were all from company management, plus the thugs who used violence to keep them in line.
"What... what’s going on?"
"I... I don’t know?"
"Sh-should we go downstairs and look?"
"Then... then let’s look?"
The three women and one man carefully went downstairs, then checked floor by floor, cautiously asking around.
At the same time, people from other rooms also came out: young male customer service reps with whip marks on their backs, beautiful croupiers with needle holes on their arms, programmers with half their teeth pulled. They all tentatively came out to see what had happened.
And then they were shocked to find that everyone who’d been controlling them, forcing them to stay put and forbidding them to leave, was dead!
While they, the ones under control, aside from a few unlucky ones who’d been hurt, were all completely fine!
No—something had happened: a few people who were among them but enjoyed it, fawning over supervisors and thugs, dreaming of staying here forever, mocking their fellow sufferers and actively helping to scam money, had also been struck dead.
That barrage of lightning just now seemed to have...
a mind of its own!
"N-no way, right?"
"H-how is that possible?"
"Should we... should we leave?"
"Our ID cards and passports are all upstairs. We can go get them anytime now..."
"Go! Quickly! Before the other companies and the Outskirts Military Camp snap out of it!"
"And the ones in the cells—we’ll rescue them too. Grab enough food and head for the border!"
