Chapter 1189 - 1188: Suspicions and Associations of Various Countries
Thus, by a twist of fate...
"What? Lin Wan agreed?"
In the Ancient Culture Research and Analysis Archival Room, someone cried out in surprise, "Does that mean there really are other mysterious incidents, or maybe mysterious figures?"
"Don’t get worked up. Maybe it’s not some mysterious incident at all. Don’t jump to conclusions. Just because we know a few things doesn’t mean we can dump every temporarily unexplained event into this category."
"Makes sense. Let’s wait for Lin Wan to rendezvous with those three experts, investigate the Pyramid Museum, and then talk."
"Do we have anyone in their team?"
"Yeah."
...
On the other side, Lu Zheng and the others went back home on their own, while Lin Wan stayed in Pharaoh Country. The next afternoon, in another hotel, she met up with the three experts from back home and their teams.
The Pyramid Museum’s front entrance was closed, with a notice posted saying that due to technical reasons and renovation upgrades, the museum would be closed for half a month, and they apologized to all visitors.
The back entrance of the museum, however, had police roadblocks set up. Only authorized personnel were allowed in.
Lin Wan followed the three experts, each of whom brought along one or two assistants. Lin Wan and another Interpol officer temporarily served as security.
The Hua Country team, twelve people in total, passed through three layers of scrutiny, carrying several cases filled with various detection instruments as they entered the museum.
Only after entering the museum did Lin Wan realize that quite a lot of people were already there. Besides them, Lighthouse Country, Great Yin Country, Gaul, Hans Country, and Mao Bear Country all had people present; even Husky, Japan, Country A, as well as Persia and Camel Country and other regional powers had sent representatives.
This really was a grand gathering of the world’s major powers.
The main doors were wide open, and all the lights were on.
People came and went, the place bustling with noise.
Clusters of experts, in groups of two or three, were carefully inspecting and scanning the artifacts in the museum’s various exhibition halls, especially several Mummies.
Not far from them, heavily armed Pharaoh Country SWAT officers were standing guard, fully on alert.
"They’re way too on edge. I feel like they’re ready to pull the trigger at any second. Do they know something we don’t?"
A young man named Shen Tang, a PhD assistant to an old Professor, leaned over to a girl named Xiao Yuya.
"The Pharaoh’s Curse—do you think that could actually be real? That’s way too absurd, right?"
"No idea." Xiao Yuya shook her head. "But isn’t the whole point of all these experts coming here to figure that out?
As for why they’re so nervous...
My guess is they know less than we do. Maybe all they’ve got is a pile of rumors—the kind that just get scarier the more you hear."
Lin Wan and another Interpol officer named Lin Jingnan were standing off to the side, bored out of their minds, watching the Professors on the one hand and keeping an eye on other countries’ personnel and the Pharaoh Country SWAT on the other.
"The higher-ups sure are taking this seriously, huh? They even sent you?" Lin Jingnan said.
Lin Wan was quite famous in the Interpol ranks, because she’d literally fought her way out of gunfire.
"Pretty normal. Weren’t you the one they sent to Lighthouse Country last time?" Lin Wan said with a smile.
Lin Jingnan nodded, bared his teeth in a half-grin, glanced around, and said, "So what do you think is really going on this time? Don’t tell me there really is a Curse?"
"How would I know?" Lin Wan shrugged, giving nothing away.
"I’m pure-blood Hua Country, and I don’t even have a son yet," Lin Jingnan said.
Lin Wan couldn’t help laughing. "Relax, you’ll be fine. Think about it—these artifacts have been on display for years. Who knows how many tourists from how many countries have come into contact with them, and nothing happened, right?"
"Yeah, but now it’s been activated, hasn’t it?"
"Comrade, you have to believe in science." Lin Wan spoke with righteous seriousness.
After all, it was Shen Ying who acted, so Lin Wan knew exactly what was going on.
Though Shen Ying hadn’t actually killed anyone and had only used Illusion Technique to scare them, she had planted seeds of fear in their Divine Souls. You could say that starting from that night, their Divine Souls had a chunk missing; you could also call it a soul Curse.
They would continually reinforce, at a subconscious level, the way they died, and their bodies would manifest those exact injuries, eventually leading to death.
But this kind of Curse wouldn’t be transmitted through bloodline to Hua Country people. After all, soul Curses aren’t contagious—that’s within the realm of science too, right?
"I’d love to believe, but the more I investigate the Lighthouse Country incident, the harder it is to believe." Lin Jingnan said quietly to Lin Wan. "The Los Angeles ten-thousand-people spontaneous combustion case—there’s still not a shred of a lead. Not a shred!"
Lin Wan raised an eyebrow. "What, there’re still people up top following that case?"
Lin Jingnan shook his head. "Whether the higher-ups are still following it, I don’t know. But from what I can see through Interpol channels, a lot of people are still investigating in the dark—only there’s been zero progress.
Reality isn’t a movie. There’s no private lab in the world that can keep something like this under wraps. Every country has already gone through all the top private labs with a fine-tooth comb.
As for Aliens... sure, some people are digging into that too, but they haven’t found any clues for new materials or attack methods.
But now the Pyramid Museum’s paranormal incident suddenly happened. Even though nobody died in this one, the impact is anything but small. Plenty of people have already started linking it to the Los Angeles combustion case.
Even some elite figures are beginning to suspect that a few thousand years ago, some people might have mastered certain non-natural powers.
Because if it were Aliens, they probably wouldn’t be this bored."
Lin Wan blinked and stayed silent.
"Otherwise..."
Lin Jingnan glanced around. "We wouldn’t see this many people here."
Following his gaze, Lin Wan also slowly looked around and then nodded.
Never mind Lighthouse Country; Great Yin Country, Gaul, and Hans Country were the three powers of Europe, and they were directly involved in this incident. Besides the team of historians and archaeologists who came to the museum, another team of medical experts had gone to "treat" those thirty-odd people.
On top of that, Husky, Country A, and Persia—these countries all had substantial historical depth and plenty of artifacts of their own. Odds are they were already harboring some expectations.
As for Mao Bear Country and Japan... they were probably here to feel relevant. Those two might have some history, but compared to the ancient civilizations, they were way outclassed.
"Linking them together..."
Lin Wan gave a dry chuckle. "What, the people in Lighthouse Country are scared already?"
In the Pyramid Museum incident, the curator’s speculation had spread widely. If that speculation turned out to be true, then things on the American Continent were going to look pretty grim.
Pharaoh Country’s civilization might have collapsed, but its people hadn’t gone extinct.
North America was different.
Today, Lighthouse Country was run by Angsa People and Jews, while the natives had been confined to one reservation after another. If the ancestors of the Indians had left behind a similar Witchcraft Curse, then...
In last year’s Los Angeles combustion incident, not a single Indian got burned to death!
More importantly, after the Pharaoh Country incident, someone discovered a Huadian!
"What Huadian?"
Lin Jingnan said in a low voice, "When the combustion incident broke out last year, there were a few thugs trying to assault an Indian girl."
Lin Wan: 〣(ºΔº)〣
Lin Wan was speechless. "These people ever think it through? If there really were a Curse, and it was that powerful, what were they doing for the past few hundred years?
Would the Ancient Pharaoh Country have been wiped out? Would the Indians have been almost exterminated by the Angsa People? Would we have had that century of humiliation?"
Lin Jingnan shrugged. "That’s exactly why they sent this many people to investigate. If they can’t find any clues and can’t confirm it’s modern tech, then the suspicion chain is only going to deepen."
Lin Wan, "..."
"Even though there’s no evidence yet and plenty of people still don’t believe, some channels show that a lot of countries have already started secretly collecting historical artifacts and probing into historical myths and legends."
Lin Wan shot a sidelong glance at the personnel not far away, meeting eyes that carried the same look.
She couldn’t help but snort. Collect all you want, dig all you want, doubt all you want, hope all you want...
It’s all useless anyway!
